Titivating my Mercedes 124

Q. Did you retrofit the electric steering column, and was it difficult? I had one in my first 124, and would quite like to have it on the current one...
No, it was already on the car. The electric steering column looks completely different to the regular item and a ball ache to retrofit but what do I know?harrykul said:

Quite a rare option from what I understand. While we're all here, I'm having a quirk in my car. It's occasionally putting the low oil warning light on, yet the oil is in the middle of the dipstick (granted I have put in maybe 750ml in the last few weeks, but still).
I couldn't nail down if there are specific instances where it happens, but I guess it's likely a sensor problem....or the area around the sensor may be starved of oil on those occasions. Or something completely different, given I drive a desk for a living.
(and not a fancy desk, either)
Has this happened to anyone else?

I get the low oil light frequently on my ‘95 E300D S124. I’ve changed the sensor; cleaned and checked over the lead from the sensor; and replaced the filter with a genuine MB one (at least twice since it started happening some years ago but now just use whichever filter comes with the Opie Oils package). None of this has made any difference and I’ve now stopped worrying about it: there’s always loads of oil, pressure is rock solid and the light always goes off eventually.
Looking great with the sunsetting behind the w124. My w124 has the adjustable steering column also. I had a previous w124 with non adjustable column and the wheel was in the perfect position anyway. The only ergonomic thing that ever annoys me about the w124 is the armrest mounted on the passenger seat on RHD cars. its not in the right position for the driver. Seems weak they didnt bother to change it for RHD cars considering the thought and detail that went into the rest of the car.

Does it happen when you're cornering? (Roughly, could be a few seconds delay)If so it could be the circuit that averages the reading out over a minute or so, apparently on the 124 it's in the cluster, and could be a bad capacitor.

Beautiful pictures. I just followed you, in case you're wondering who the random weirdo who added you is.Oil light is not cornering dependent. It tends to be when the engine is cool, but does occasionally come on at other times. I didn’t know about the gadgetry mentioned so might have a look next time I’m poking around the dash (I’ve had the whole dash out twice and instrument cluster a few times - different stories).
I used the 124 today to commute to Sunderland, dropping off a set of four alloy wheels at SEM for refurbishment. On the way home I noticed this little lane down to the River Wear. I was convinced I'd do an old-man-wrong-pedal job and zoom off the unguarded side into what looked like 20' of dirty water. I also happened upon Kish Trim who are going to repair the driver's seat bolster of this car and the 190 and who also will fit the new hood to the 129.
