2002 Supercharged EP3 Civic Type R
Discussion
im also interested in the rack slider as ive just bought a facelift rack for my ep3. what make is your slider? im looking at sourcing one from America.
i will ask my mate what pulley he has on his rotrex has his is a top mount c30 and his makes 360hp.. he does have a fancy toda manifold and 3inch tdi north exhaust system but as far as i know all standard internals an cams.
his catch tank is run off the breather on top of the rocker if that helps.

Yo, I had a chat with my mate and he reckons the biggest improvement came from removing a restrictor/silencer plate inside the intake port on the supercharger - it seems on the early Rotrex kits it comes installed from factory on other chargers it comes separately. It seems tuners installing the C32 on other 2.0L & smaller engines are using anything from a 32-36mm plates to limit power however I don't know the full diameter to know if that is a large plate or not!!
Also in terms of pulley size, i shall have to measure it as my mate has no idea, from what I understand Rich @ Performance Autoworks did a calculation based on the rev limit for the engine (9000rpm), the size of the crank pulley (140mm for a UKDM EP3) the max speed for the charger (120,000rpm) and the charger drive ratio 1:9.49 The result is the pulley allows the charger to work at the higher end of it's safe limit ~ 100k
something along the lines of the max engine rpm x crank pulley / rotrex pulley size x gear ratio to get to around 80-100k or more depending how brave you feel.
I appreciate it is not quite the same as I have a G-Lader supercharger but the relationship between the a standard pulley diameter of 88mm giving approximately 6psi of boost, a reduction to 78mm gives 10psi, 68mm 14psi so roughly 4psi per 10mm reduction.

Thanks Kerrly, I have indeed already worked out the pulley sizes etc, at the moment at 8600rpm I am overspeeding the charger by about 2%, I can live with that.
I’m pretty sure that the restrictor you mention is long gone from my car. Consensus seems to be that I need a different size crank pulley and different charger pulley to make a difference, so I’m going to do some looking into it, no rush. Appreciate your input.
On another note, I emptied the catch can for the first time, was quite interesting to see just how much crap it catches!
Still haven’t got round to sorting the rack yet, but I will!!

Thanks Kerrly!
No problem! The Dc5 has the smallest diameter & lightest crank pulley of the K series engines, about £150 new - Im biding my time waiting for a mate to upgrade his Integra pulleys when he ditches the AC setup in a few weeks. It should work on my AC equipped civic. As far as I am aware my mates EP3 has a standard crank pulley - again i can check.
Honestly, i really hope you get yours running right and producing the >300hp that it should give you!!!!
Finally got round to sorting the rack rebuild. Used a very handy guide here - http://www.ephatch.com/forum/showthread.php?75348-...
Just some pictures of a few bits.
Wear on the old slider
Ready to go back in when we fit the manifold and my new exhaust at the same time!

Nice one mate! Get a thread up about it!
I sometimes wish I hadn't started, but on the right road, road day it is a monster and I love the damn thing
It need some remedial work done it, it needs a new clutch, chain and the lifters checked, but it's all good. Going to get some photos later in the week for a thread!I sometimes wish I hadn't started, but on the right road, road day it is a monster and I love the damn thing
Refurbished steering rack gone on today. It was a bh do a job by my mates account, I don’t know as I left him to do it and went to work
He is an absolute legend though.
He’s keeping the car for a few more days to fit the new exhaust manifold too, then I need to have a serious think about whether I’m going to change my intercooler (I think mine is too restrictive) or just get it mapped again, see what it does and try to stop spending money on it

Sat and read all of this at work over the last few days
I always loved my EP3, it was the longest I kept a car for but I got distracted with a couple of Impreza STI's in the hunt for 'easy' power instead. I've just picked up the inferior FN2 to run alongside my S2000 as a sensible daily but I've had a feeling that supercharging it would be really good fun, while keeping it nice and stock looking with the full interior etc.
This could get expensive!

Cheers for the comments chaps!
That car looks lovely, I always wanted Milano red with white wheels and ended up with black wheels, white are a pain to keep clean!
I really can’t see me getting rid of it, some days I absolutely hate it, but most days it makes me smile from ear to ear!
It was in good condition. It only had about 44k on it when I sold it in 2008. They say time’s a healer but I still mourn the loss! It had to go though..company car forced sale. Looks like it’s dead now according to the MOT history :-(That car looks lovely, I always wanted Milano red with white wheels and ended up with black wheels, white are a pain to keep clean!

Anyway, glad you’re keeping yours! Enjoy!
Had the car dyno’d today, more for my peace of mind, check the AFR after the recent exhaust/manifold changes but also to see the difference, was a nice surprise!
329.4, very happy with that even if it may be slightly optimistic, feels that quick though!
I’ve also decided on a refresh of the engine bay, ordered some black hoses to replace the yellow and a new wrinkle grey rocker cover and black flush plug cover which together should look like this...
Nice little comparison picture of when I first got it to now too...
