There is no such thing. The Excel engine is a Lotus 912 with zero Toyota.

That is correct. Drivetrain and brakes and some electrics came from the Supra. Some Excels have Supra Alloys.

Yaaaay! I have binned the horrid and shiny radio and replaced it with a posh looking Blaupunkt.

I will keep this one unless someone makes me a silly offer for it.

I may keep the Lotus although that would require storing it somewhere.

This weekend I drove it 500 miles without a blip.

Arrrrgh - the driver's door feels like it is falling off. It was fine until yesterday, but today something had popped out. The door sags, and is out at the front edge. Visually the nuts and hinges etc look the same as on the passenger side, which isn't broken, so I can't see the bit that has gone wrong. Anyone ever fixed such a thing?

Gnash. I think the door beam has failed. A common occurrence on these cars as the beams tend to rust. Possibly a fiddly fix.

I have to drive the Lotus from London to Oxfordshire today so that my mechanic can diagnose how fooked the door is. Cable ties and tape may be deployed to stop the door falling off on the M40. If it is the door beam that has failed I can get a replacement for fifty quid from Lotusbits, but fitting it may be a right old faff.

Lotusbits are busy, so it will be a while before the door is fixed.

It is a good sign, I think, that the workshop services of Lotusbits are in high demand. SJ Sports are also good, but are in Devon, whereas Lotusbits are just up the road from my country pad. The West London old Lotus fixer upper dudes have closed down, sadly.

The door is still not quite falling off. It is locked and taped and whatnot. I enter and exit the car by doing limbo dancing via the passenger door. There are now footprints on the headlining, but not for the usual enjoyable reasons (the damage that Christian Louboutin heels can do to the headlining of a Jensen Interceptor is a story for another time).

I may or may not be driving the car tomorrow to go and look at a Series 2 Esprit, but I couldn't possibly comment on that.

Satan, avaunt!

How about we go halfsies and keep it in a shed near you? I know of an S3 for sale too. NB non turbos for less angst.

Meanwhile: Loads Of Taped Up ste. But NB tape bought in shop very near to Hethel, so is correct Lotus tape as specified by Chapman in person.

I went about for a while with a very tall woman who had feet bigger than some police officers. She loved shoes with a passion, and it was a torment to her that Louboutin did not do her size. She had to buy her heels at tranny shops. Only she was allowed to tell jokes about this.

I bailed on going to see that Esprit. Maybe next week.
