Ok, not much today as work's slowing down due to parts needing to arrive. Tomorrow will be sump gasket replacement to resolve the leaks.

Good news is, the spacer measurements were spot on and it's all come together.

FAsteners did turn up end of play today

Unfortunately though the prop donut i had was damaged, thinking the shifter issues I had some time ago caused it, either way while the prop's easily removed, this'll be replaced

The car's about finished, however due to the fact there's a hole big enough to pack the car in due to some tanks being removed by the landlord, whom didn't bother to inform Sam till the start of this week. banghead So i have to wait till next week before the car's returned.

Glad to see the spacer has fitted up perfectly. Suppose this is one of the few times when being without the car for a week isn't the worst in the world. How far of having completed the overall improvements to the car are you?

This is one of the last major jobs, the exhaust does need replacing unfortunately as it's beginning to break apart , already had to weld it back together a few times so investigating options for a tubular manifold and stainless system, should liberate a few extra BHP / NM in the process.

Also considering replacing the radiator to a CSF item for added reliabity on the cooling system and replacing some front steats as the current ones though comfortable, don't give much support when driving on track, but besides that, it's getting towards completed now.

The only major change may be if it goes supercharged, though to do so, there'd need to be a oil cooler added and maybe some work to the bottom end of the engine to support the mods (ARP rodbolts, decent bearings, ATI Damper), but that'd need a bit more funds given I'm looking to buy a house soon as Covid19 abates.

And final post for the week. Sam's been wrapping things up, though there's a delay.. explained why end of this post.

Front crossmember off for sump gasket swap.

Sump off, nothing a miss.

New gasket

And all back together

The prop's been mounted, and now sealed

Anyway, the issue for why the car's stuck... It's behind the door with reception on it.

No fault to Sam, he was only informed by the landlord late last week and now this morron's saying this hole won't be filled till next friday! rolleyesmadmadmad I'm not happy at all, Sam's pissed off, any lawyers want to offer some advice for lost earnings, business disruption and what measures can be taken?

All that work will stop your floor rusting away in old E46 style! The other floor is a pain though.

Today's work hasn't been much, propshaft is all in, as finding a replacement donut has proven tricky.
Good news is the bolts arrived and those are now installed and not much left though still the issue of the hole outside the garage.
Concrete has gone in, but 2 days to cure, plus some final work to lay the bricks back down.

Sump gasket's also been swapped so that's about all the work besides putting the exhaust back on, Sam's been dealing with another car today which resulted in a gearbox being dismantled. Fingers crossed everything comes together and I'll have the car back on Friday.

Of note, does anyone want a DSSR Selector rod for their 5 speed 330i? Asking for £135 plus shipping. Bear in mind import tax was about £50 on top of the prices and delivery so this is discounted.

This is the item (Part no DSSR237), with barely 300 miles on it, and will be supplied in the original packaging.

So.. final post on this overhaul, and the first bit of news was the final assembly on the car, the shifter needed re-installing and the exhaust and under tray.

Sam got busy today, and some luck also helped

Propshaft all finished

Shifter re-installed

Heatsheilding re-installed having been cleaned.

Exhaust reinstalled fully, and replugged.

Undertrays all installed again

Finally off the lift and on it's wheels, with the brakes and clutch being bled.

Thankfully the hole was finally filled back in and allowed access to get the car back out. One shakedown drive later, the car performs brilliantly, though in desperate need of a 4 wheel alignment. That hopefully should be done tomorrow with the car being brung back and dropped off. The 6 speed box really has made a difference on the RPM's, given at 70mph with the diff ratio in the car, I'd be sat around 3200rpm at just over 70mph. Everything's working , may need to go into OBD and clear the codes.

Tomorrow the car should be home, my wallet may be smoldering but i can spend this weekend refitting the interior and take it for my first drive.
Credit well due for Sam (Carpetsolier) for all his hard work, this was a case study for his work, and hopefully he can continue to build the business, as he's taking more work for the moment, and provides a contact free collection and drop off service smile

Mad rush today.

1) final bolt check at the workshop, plus checking all fluids on a level surface
2) took her for an alignment (should have seen the guy's face when he got underneath)
3) 300 mile shakedown run tonight.

Thoughts:

- gearbox has immensely improved proceedings. 75mph true (GPS) is 2,750rpm. 6,000rpm is roughly 165mph (not tested!).
- feels so strong and capable with the reinforcement done. I mean this in the best possible way- feels like an E36 (my all time favourite chassis). Usually E46s feel a bit flubby. This doesn't.
- cruise control fully works.
- everything feels spot on.

So having gotten the car back from Sam, finally got my first impressions with the new setup.

The car feels significantly tighter with the rear end, with only a little bit of NVH, but with the new alignment settings, the car feels incredbily grippy.
It's very much point and shoot with a reasonbly good balance, though does have a little bit of understeer.
The axle tramp that usually occured when launching the car is all gone, instead it just makes rather good '11's hehe

Thing is now it's developing much more grip.. it feels underpowered now.. Plans are affoot for sorting out the aging Alpina exhaust system and some investigation into forced induction. silly

Drivability with the 6 speed is much nicer on the motorway, drop it in 6th and it'll cruise not to mention it's now getting 36mpg which is great.

There are some niggles though to be taken care of.

I'll have to order a new DSSR, Sam's worked with the stock M3 shift linkage, and yes it is tight, it does seem to bind in a place or two, minor niggle but some investigation and orders need placing. I have now got a surplus 330i 5 speed DSSR in my pocession and as mentioned, I'm looking to sell it to fund the 6 speed version.

Good work dude on the picture when you put the exhaust on what's zip tied to the plate underneath the exhaust? Looks like a orange cloth!

That's heat sheilding for the lambda sensor cable, it's getting a bit tired though, but with the exhaust being replaced in the near future. that'll be replaced

Well, spend yesterday giving the car a decent deep clean and got it all nice and shiny so i could go out for a drive (no destination, just a road trip to no-where...) Went to wind the windows down using the key, all went well.

Least till i went to try and wind it back up to get the AC cooling down things.. and the rear left window decided to go 'crunch'...
Window did not come up again without me helping it by hand.

A call later and some checking on youtube, turns out my regulator's gone and broken rolleyes

Some digging into the door and yup, it's broken. Window has masking tape holding it up.

The offending item.

So the car's been duely parked in the garage until the new one arrives, all of £16 brand new.

Well, the regulator finally arrived and was able to get it fitted.
Did require some minor dremel work to get things to fit with the motor but it's all good

Well after a few weeks of diagnosing and a ABS sensor swap, eventually tracked down a DSC fault to a broken wire.
Some soldering and heatshrink has corrected the issue, but erf, what a pain in the but to find the fault
