Focus ST is like a V8 on economy, standard car just doesn't offer the performance to match it's fuel use.
Tell me about it. Ave 21mpg over 3 years
I get 20mpg from a 4.2 litre V8.
I get 15-17mpg from a 2.0 turbo hehe
I get 27 - 30 from an on the way to the moon mile ST.

Those who get less should seek out one of RU Local's informative posts, and/or buy the Amazon online book smile.

Yup the rs injectors seem a popular upgrade.
Will be happy with 280-300bhp.
I ran mine at 320bhp comfortabley without the need for RS injectors.

I wouldn't go near a cheap ebay IC unless you're prepared to monitor intake temps, and pay again if it proves to be worse than standard, which isn't uncommon. People seem to completely overlook the design of a good cooler, and go with the mantra " well, it must be better, look at the size of it ". If you don't measure the temps, you can't know if it's better.

I've tried 4 on my Evo, the good ones are only marginally better than standard, the worst one ( an Autobahn88 product commonly found on ebay ) was massively worse. To measure temps, I use a k-type thermocouple mounted at the throttle body linked to a digital display, and a scan gauge plugged in to the OBD, using the original air intake sensor in the inlet manifold, the differences between intercoolers can be massive, as can the differences between the 2 readings, depending on throttle openings.

If ETS or Hybrid make a cooler for your application, they would both be worth looking at, in my experience.

Eibachs will do this to your car. You 'must' fit the Eibach camber bolts or you will wear the inside edge of the rear tyres in 2k miles. 300 bhp is a nice figure and any more and spiky boosts will make traction a pain.

That's a very nice St u have there.
Once the cooler is on I'm going to get it on the rollers, see were I am with it power wise.

Bit of an update, after much deliberation over what intercooler to go for i went for the airtec gen 3 stage 2 cooler with the rs scoop, fitting was ok,no need to remove the bumper, just undertray and lower bumper trim then you can access the intercooler.
Got the new cooler fitted and the car is driving great, boost pressure is up from 0.68 bar to 1.0 bar max boost.
Not to sure why it has increased boost pressure, maybe something to do with the uprated diverter valve, just couldnt notice it with the standard intercooler?
Car just feels more alive, boosts a lot stronger and pulls very very well.
Anyway the sleeper look is well and truelly out the window.

Spec just now is
Group a induction kit
Rs plugs
Uprated diverter valve
3 inch down pipe
3 inch de cat
3 inch centre box delete pipe
Standard rear box
Airtec gen 3 stage 2 intercooler
Grooved discs with uprated pads.
Colour coded bumper grilles.

I was heavily involved with the ST scene pretty much from launch. Economy is, on the whole, tragic for the power output and there's no point taking the car to more than about 300bhp which is easily achieved with a few minor mods. They really can't put much more than that down on the road so chasing bigger numbers is broadly pointless.

In all honesty? Don't waste your money, buy a car that was designed to have more power - and deploy it - in the first place.

I've watched guys on the ST forum chuck thousands and thousands at their STs and end up with a car that doesn't justify the money. If you accept it's a good hot hatch and nothing more it's fine. But 350-400bhp? Don't bother.

Totally agree with you, economy doesn't bother me,but anywhere between 280-300bhp once I'm finished I will be happy with.
That's the goal anyway.

Have you cut the front grill out ? Looks a bit meh, to be honest, if you have. Makes no difference to intake air, whatever others may say.
At least you have seen now the size difference between the old intercooler and new , as to reasoning behind its replacement early on in the mods. Also remember that the boost gauge isn't actually linked to boost, just the ecu . Its just an electronic gauge and without the brain asking to change the actually boost, wont change the pressure and wont drive any different on standard map.

Power level will depend on the dyno. We hit about 285 on a Dyno Dynamics RR.

Mine was running around 265-270 with just a dreamscience remap, measured at Surrey Rolling Road. It was enough to make the car brisk. Any more in the wet and it would've been understeer city.

That was the full 3" exhaust/downpipe/sports cat and upgraded intercooler plus DreamScience remap. RS clutch, flywheel and Quaife diff to cope. Did about another 50 with the nitrous on.

Bit of an update, since getting the bigger intercooler on the car is certainly getting through the fuel a bit more, not even really driving it that much harder.
Finally managed to get rid of the naff cheap chrome looking st badges, much prefer them black.

New front grill next then supension mods.
