Will sort that when I get back.

Drove to Dundee and managed this on the way until I arrived at a crash which shut the a9 for a hour.

Good read OP. Always fancied one of these, but never had the brave pills, good to see yours is working out nicely for you.

Word of warning on the Cat C/D thing, your insurance company might get funny if you need to claim and haven't declared. I had a Cat D merc a few years back and no end of problems insuring it, and when I did, at a loaded premium. Many will say it doesn't matter etc, so seems a lottery, I'm just commenting that I had probs with insuring a Cat D, others haven't.

It most certainly is a fact that needs to be declared!

Insurance is all legit, dont worry tongue out

Ended up with adrian flux with breakdown cover that includes a trailer + whatever is on it. I buy cars is the south of England ever few months so wouldnt be great to break down 550 miles from home and have no cover smile

Not all is well in Range Rover world.

Air suspension has failed on the front. Flickered on and off a few times while on the motorway. Got in the next morning to various faults related.

Checked bags etc, all fine.

Spare wheel well where the compressed is housed had 2" of water in it. Assuming it's shorted something out.

Dried it out for now and hopefully a mate can sort it tomorrow morning as I'm due in Edinburgh on the 28th.

However had to drive today with the front aired out. Drove slowly and gently while avoiding potholes like they were land mines. Got 47.5 mpg on the trip or about 43/44 reality.

I had the same thing happen in my Jag XJ which uses the same system. I dried out the wheel well, disconnected and cleaned the connectors, replaced the battery, and all was well.

Is that fuel consumption for real? I can't get above 30. ever. In fact I rarely get near that.

Real, was mostly at 50mph behind lorries which greatly helped.

I often get 30+, average over 1000 miles from Inverness to Norfolk and back with a trailer then trailer + car on way back was 25.

Dont do alot of town driving, all single track lanes/A roads. Only time I touch motorways is when heading to England, even then I have 100 miles of a 60mph road which skews the average higher. Remapped too of course tongue out

Didnt get a chance to get it looked at sadly. Will be 27th now I think.

Wont be used till then so plenty of chance to dry out and fix its self hopefully.

Are you working the fuel consumption out over a full tank or just telling us what the on board computer says?

Not full tanks, its the on board (which when measured compared to full tank real mpg was roughly 8-9% lower than the obc) so I generally trust it, has been checked recently on a 1100 mile trip and was the same % off.

Went out today as I had to go to town sadly. Got it turned it on and the air suspension was back alive and well with no problems.

Drove to town did shop etc, drove home through horrendous rain and it failed again.

Assuming theres a fairly decent sized hole somewhere letting in the water.

Atleast im 99% sure its related to this but I may be wrong.

Also ticked over 165k miles smile

So friend got it checked today, came up as faults with front right and rear left height sensors, replaced the front left when I was doing the brakes as it looked bad, guess I should of done the others too.

Got it fixed today after delays in getting the sensors. Then problems with lack of the correct tools, mainly my ratchet broke and didnt have the correct size hex bit so bought the halfords professional 200 piece set, reduced from £300 to £135.

Took less than an hour to do them both after I had the hex bit. Mate brought up a diagnostic machine from work and reset the codes, all came back to life. Less than £100 for both sensors to fix it smile

Did find out theres problems with the front right and rear left parking sensors though. Might fix the rear one but not bothered by the front one.

A Range Rover is all the car you ever need. Inverness to Altrincham to Dundee in 1 day and still wasn't sore/tired.

Drove from Inverness to Altrincham with a trailer and used 5/8 of a tank.

Return trip I did Altrincham to Dundee to Inverness and used just under a full tank (lights on) with a merc s430 on the back.
Not quite sure on the mpg but cost just shy of £160 I think. If anyones bored I believe the tank holds 100l and google maps will have the mileage between places to calculate the mpg.

On the return I had a 100l compressor, e38 rear door, e38 front bumper and 4 17" wheels + tyres with me too.

Pictures of said merc on trailer to come soon, car isn't mine so won't be a thread on it.

Got some new wheels, off a disco 4 I think. Slightly smaller at 19" which gives me more sidewall smile
