So i got the inlet manifold gasket replaced and started to fit the new carburettor today. Only issue i had was one of the manifold bolts snapped off which meant a trip to my local town to get an extractor and a pack of bolts. A small cost and only a little issue to resolve. Once sorted i cleaned up the manifold and cylinder head ready for the new gasket. Fitting was issue free and i started fitting the new carburettor, as i've got a free weekend i didn't feel the need to rush so once it was fitted in place with new studs/bolts i re-connected the throttle cable and called it a day.
Also chose my new wheel colour so i shall be picking the paint up next week!
Something wrong there
Manifold removed (this is before cleaning anything)
Nice new gasket
New gasket and manifold re-fitted
Old vs New
Current state
Should be running again tomorrow morning!

Matt

For me the wheels almost work with the body colour in the daylight. Still a "brave" decision though.
I really like the car and keeping it as "period" as possible is great.
I can almost smell the 80s again. (Which mostly consisted of unburnt fuel if I recall correctly.)
Thanks for the reply , i still intend to keep it original although the wheel colour is far from it! You are very correct with the "80s" smell I really like the car and keeping it as "period" as possible is great.

Takes me back to 1987 when I built my 1.1 fiesta up from a write off!
Mine had a big valve head, 296 duration cam and twin choke webber, I still have a large bore inlet mani and single choke deloroto for it in the shed! I fitted a tall block valencia engine from a mk4 escort, with a gasflowed head and the big cam in it, it made 98 hp and went really well, rev'd and rev'd!
Although you may not want to lower, some Monroe gasmatic shocks and lower front springs, (keep the back as it is ride height wise) will transform the handling for no big money, and retain comfort too. Just needs more weight over the front axle.
It looks very tidy though, and great to see it on PH!

Thanks for the replies some interesting info in there , I have looked before for an original set of wheels/trims and couldn't find any in good condition (i will keep looking now and then!). I had a look at the Monroe shocks and they are cheap although as mentioned you'll need more weight over the front with gas filled rather than oil filled shocks, but their standard oil filled shocks are just as cheap.
