It’s not cleaned as often as I would like.

The wheels are covered in Rimwax and just washed with the rest of the car. BJV recommend that if I have to use something stronger, Auto Glym do a non acidic wheel cleaner.
I use Meguires Wash and Wax for normal cleaning.
Auto Glym Super Resin Polish, Glass polish, Bumper Care with Vinyl and Rubber Care. Collinite Wax or Meguires Ceramic Spray to seal the paintwork.
Autosol metal polish on the exhaust and Meguires Tyre Gel.
I think that’s everything.

Well it seems to work with the paint finish, even if you got some other half earache!

The Poorboys wheel sealant I use is ok, but will try the Rimwax. Ultimately my BBS will always be my fave wheel but a PITA to upkeep.

Otherwise similar. Autoglym cleaner and polish with Meguiars Caranba Wax for a deep shine to the metallic paint. May try the ceramic in future too.

Well today I think that I discovered something new.
Without wanting to bore people, I'm currently taking meds for a brain tumor. One or other of them has made me very forgetful and easily distracted. The most recent result of this is my leaving the car for about 14 hours with the ignition on and flattening the battery.
As far as I can tell, the car lowered the driver's window before the battery died. There are a few of us in this house and nobody noticed the window being open last night. I don't have any recollection of opening the window and cannot think of any reason that I would have done.
In any event, I came out this morning to find that at least the car was still there, but the battery was dead and the driver's side of the interior was soaked.
I jump started it using my wife's car and gave it a good run, I'm hoping that I have not completely killed the battery.

Sorry to hear your not well mate! Do like reading about all e46 3 series’s, especially a club sport. It looks really nice.

sorry to hear that, however on the draining the battery thing don't worry too much, I've managed to do the same thing twice in recent months on one car and the other day started my e46 (which isn't being used right now) just to give it a short run, I promptly got distracted and retreated to the garden completely forgetting about the car, it was running for a good hour before a family member asked why my car was running? oops..

The window thing is strange!

Very sorry to hear about your ill health op.

I wouldn’t worry with the window going down, I’ve seen cars with extremely flat battery’s and the wipers start to go on their own (extremely slowly of course) but low voltage must do strange things to vehicle systems.

On the plus side this week will be scorchio so just leave the window open a bit in the sun and It will dry out in no time.

Also suggest putting a tray or two of kitty litter in it, Friend found out by accident (had a open bag in an old car) that this stuff drys out interiors and stops them getting damp in the first place.

Thank you everyone.
I can now report that the battery seems fine. I’ve been using it as normal today with no problem, which amazes me given how dead it was yesterday morning. I did enjoy my spirited drive after I jumped it.
Fortunately, today’s weather has done wonders for drying out the seat and carpet.
I have also discovered that it is possible to wash off the leather care products with rain water as there was a pool of it at the base of the seat. A job for tomorrow.

Not a huge amount to report, the car has only done 300 miles in the last month, 140 of which were the return journey to Caffeine and Machine this morning.

Once the rain had cleared it was a really nice drive.
What I did notice yesterday while cleaning it, was that the new nearside front wing is already showing signs of starting to rust already!

I was at C&M yesterday morning with a mate for breakfast.

Bummer that the wing is showing signs of rust again. I really do love the E39 and E46 but they are buggers for rusting.

If you want a good bodyshop Lance whom can repair the wings or match up a replacement (Given they are bolt on), might be worth giving LA Paintworks in Flitwick a call, Lee is the man in charge and he's very good with things.

That said, I think he's got a backlog currently what with Covid19 going about but worth giving him a call. He repaired my wings (media blasted the lips, welded back in material) but if it's showing on the outside, that wing's probably too far gone.

He prepps them with undcoat and Raptor paint on the undersides, Mine were done like this and 2 years on, not a sign of any return of the rust.

Thanks. My first port of call will be the bodyshop that fitted it, they have always been really good to me, so it’s only fair that I let them have a look at it first.
Besides which, my Sapphire Cosworth is currently being recommissioned after too many years off the road so all available funds are going in that direction.

That sounds good Lance - what needs doing on the Sapphire - good service or some new mechanicals as well?

I managed to break the infamous 3rd gear. It's since been laid up for the last 6 years (life and wife kept getting in the way).
It's having the 'box rebuilt, all belts and fluids changing, new tyres and brakes.
It also needs the fuel pump wiring replacing as the voltage was dropping off on full boost.
All in all, a bill second only to the engine build.

Just the smallest of updates.

New rear dampers (one completely expired a couple of days before the car was booked in to have them replaced), discs and pads see it with a fresh MOT.

As, I suspect with many people this year, it’s not had much use since April, so little in fact that I think I’ve managed to put more miles on the Cosworth!

Still hopefully next year will be better.

Oh, and I have finally replaced the dark side repeaters that it came with.

For what it should have. Looks much better.

Gearbox fixed, hydraulic clutch conversion, new brakes, diff bearings replaced, new tyres along with belts and fluids. It still needs things doing, but it’s roadworthy and legal. smile
