Talk to Mick at TwoStrokeToTurbo. He will have a spare box you can buy for not much money. They break Saabs and stock the parts to sell to people like us. He's a top bloke and looks after mine. They know their Saabs.
Thanks but based in Nottingham now. Going travelling over next few months so can't afford to get it properly rebuilt right now. Given the amount of money I've put into this project (around 6k) it's a car for life now, or at least for a couple more years. Can't think what I'd replace it with. Possibly a Holden Commodore or Maloo. Or a Bristol Blenheim if I came into some money! Might have a go at fitting this replacement box with a friend before I go but happy to walk and cycle about for the time being.Edited by HybridAero on Tuesday 11th October 11:47
While car is off the road, I've been looking at some further upgrades:
Ultra Racing - Saab 95 Front Upper Strut Brace
Ultra Racing - Saab 95 4-Point Front Lower Brace
Ultra Racing - Saab 95 Rear Sway Bar
These, combined with the existing Bilstein B12s and (eventually) Quaife LSD and the car should be a bit of a b-road weapon for a big old barge!

Nice, should help for sure.
I can't remember but have you done all the wishbone bushes with Powerflex or similar? They made a huge improvement on my car.
Yeh had all the wishbone bushes replaced with polyurethane ones.I can't remember but have you done all the wishbone bushes with Powerflex or similar? They made a huge improvement on my car.
Most transformative was the engine to gearbox torque bush. There used to be quite a lot of inertia when letting off the throttle but after there was no more shunting.
Have you fitted the SAS bars? I'd look at these first mate, nothing really available from mine but the 9-5 lot seem to like them.
Also be a bit wary on the Ultra Racing stuff, some fakes floating around which don't fit. I think PFS still sell them so maybe worth a call to them and see if they can make a deal on the SAS bars plus one of the UR braces

Not sure if this one is genuine but it's a bit cheaper:

Hope the Ultimate Racing ones fit as it's 494 all in for the ARB, front AND rear strut braces.
....got to shell out on quality bits
The SAS link is from them direct in the states, also have to factor in shipping & duty/taxes (got stung when I bought my bars for the 9k) I tried sortin a group buy with them a few years ago but they wouldn't knock much off plus shipping was mega expensive.
I'd ask on UKS for more advice on the bars/braces, the 9-5 lot will be better to help than me but from what I've read/been told the SAS bars are excellent.

Thanks Dai, what do the SAS bars actually do? Is it something to do with the rear suspension? I get what the front strut brace does. Do you know if it's just a case of undoing the suspension top mount bolts to fit a front upper strut brace or will that cause the axle to drop out? Also I don't know how much torque is required to tighten back up the top mount bolts. Might leave it to my mechanic don't want to mess around with a front axle! The SAS link is from them direct in the states, also have to factor in shipping & duty/taxes (got stung when I bought my bars for the 9k) I tried sortin a group buy with them a few years ago but they wouldn't knock much off plus shipping was mega expensive.

Quick update:
I managed to source a used gearbox with 70k on it to replace my broken one, for only £40.
Since installing it, it runs so much smoother now.
Additionally, with the recent cold weather, the 9-5 feels like it has an extra 30-50 bhp. While it was dyno'd at 342 bhp and 521 NM back in the summer, it's now peaking at 1800 mAir on the open SID panel, which equates to 580 NM / 427 lb ft; it goes like a bugger now.
Here's a quick acceleration run, which was filmed with a window open to mount my crappy camera mount.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKBcEpyvmPA
Even with a window down, it managed a 10.9 second 100-200 km/h time, which is faster than a Ferrari 355, and about the same as a 360!
Car is approaching completion - I have a sharktooth front bumper being prepared and resprayed, and wheels are being refurbed in anthracite next week (pics to follow).
Finally, I've ordered a used Ultra Racing front upper strut brace for £50, which should help on the handling front. I just hope it will clear the do88 delivery pipe.

Wheels have been refurbed to anthracite by http://totalwheelworks.co.uk in Nottingham (old ones were corroded and fancied something different).

The front subframe is a very substantial slab of metal already.........is there really that much benefit to adding a brace to it?Ultra Racing - Saab 95 Front Upper Strut Brace

Yeh you're probably right, I've heard a few others say similar. It's the SAS anti roll bar that really transforms the handling, but I suppose every little helps.griffin dai said:

This might be worth a look for your 9-3?http://www.abbottsaab.com/product/rear-anti-roll-s...
