can do PayPal friends and family as no one will need protection but it seems a bit impersonal and a page would tell a nice story...

I'd have a look at doing it (can't be that hard?) But we're sunning ourselves until this time next week! The Caymans are hotter than an Audi converted Boxster wink

I've enjoyed reading your build stories, and this is just a tragedy. I'm glad that you and your daughter are unharmed, and I hope that you can recover from this awful setback as best you can.

My best wishes.

The best site I could find was gofundme.com

It charges 5%, which is relatively low compared to others, supports raising funds for someone else, but doesn't support PayPal (just takes debit/credit cards).

Another lurker here - have been following the thread with interest for more than a year, since before it made RCOTW (almost exactly a year ago it seems, has it really been that long?). Absolutely gutted for you Escy, must be heartbreaking to see years of hard work and investment literally go up in smoke before your eyes - glad that you and your daughter made it out OK though, as others have said it could have been much worse.

I would also happily chip in to a 'Buy a Boxster for Escy' fund - does anyone here know how to go about setting one up? I'm sure it must be simple enough to do, but I guess the important point is to make sure that it's set up in such a way that only Escy can withdraw funds from the account, so that everyone can donate with confidence that all the money will end up in the right place smile

The site I mentioned above needs his email address, and he becomes the only person able to withdraw the funds, even if someone else sets up the campaign

I've been lurking on this thread since pretty much the beginning.
What a nightmare.

Most relieved that both your daughter and yourself are safe.
Everything else can be replaced (no matter how tough that might be)

Count me in on the fund proposal.

Lurker here too.

So sorry for the loss of what was/is one of the best projects on pistonheads.

Count me in for a donation to boxster 2 the return...

Glad you are both ok.

Hi all,

Since there seems to be quite a bit of enthusiasm to start a 'Boxster Mk II' fund for Escy, I've taken the liberty of setting up a fundraising page on one of the popular crowdfunding websites. However, I won't share the name of the site or publicise the link until a) Escy confirms that he is OK with it (I've sent him a PM to check), and b) the account has been set up so that only Escy is able to withdraw the funds.

If Escy is happy to go ahead, I'll post again on here with a link to the fundraising page. If on the other hand you don't hear back from me, assume that he has politely declined the offer of financial assistance smile

Cheers,
Rob

Terrible end to the thread, I know how it feels. When I was 18 I spent about a year, maybe more, rebuilding a GTM Libra that I found in a sorry state. I had it on the road about 5 months before some absolute plank pulled out on me and smashed it to bits. To say I was sick over it would be an understatement. Like you, when I have a project it consumes my thoughts, almost obsessively to be honest, and there was still loads of bits I had planned to do. For that to just be taken away was difficult.

Just got to get on with it, move on. I vowed I wouldn't build anything again... about 3 years after that I built a motorcycle and a couple of years ago I rebuilt another GTM Libra. Have a break and try to forget about it. I'm sure your next project will be even more impressive.

Yep, I'd spotted that as well but just wanted to double-check that was still the case, given that it was more of a hypothetical question the first time round smile

I'm glad to say that Tom's still happy for us to go ahead with a fundraising campaign, so I've just put his email address down as the sole beneficiary of the fund. Without further ado, here's the link to the GoFundMe fundraising page:

https://www.gofundme.com/help-a-fellow-pher-in-nee...

I've just made an initial donation, and noticed that at the bottom of the donation page it has my name as the creator of the fund, and just below that it says that all funds 'will go directly to this person'. Hopefully that will change to Tom's name once he's completed his part of the beneficiary setup process, otherwise it might look like a bit of a scam... Perhaps Tom could post on here once he's got access to the fund, just to reassure people that their donations will end up with the intended recipient!

Please give generously, and let's get Boxster MkII up and running! driving

Very eloquently written fundraising campaign - thanks!

My only criticism is the amount. Perhaps raise it to 5k as a figure for us to aim for; it'd be enough to buy a base car and allow him to made some meaningful progress.

Well done for setting this fundraising up- I'm very happy to be the 2nd to contribute. Having spent the last 4 years restoring a car and spending a similar sum as the op, the thought of it going up in smoke sends shivers down my spine.

Let's get the op back on track with a suitable replacement car ASAP.

Maybe de moderator can make a sticky thread on top off the readers car, so people can read the story. Now the link is in the middle off a thread and maybe hard to see.

Donated. Hope that everyone donates. Its yust a couple off beers less in the pub.

@ Tom. Hope that this fund will give you the spirit to go on, and build a new one

Maybe if Rob does a new post in reader's cars - linking to both this thread and the go fund me page a moderator or admin could make that a sticky for a period of time?

Got your mail, can't see a problem TBH as you have requested prior permission and as you say it's for a fellow PH'er.

Raise your new thread I'll give it a sticky, I'll also flag it up to Jack Mansfield just to make him and the other Mods aware.

When you raise your new thread just send in a report and I'll pick it up and let Jack know the SP. smile

Thanks Big Al

I've done a post PH "Help Request" Escy Boxter Thread - "Go Fund Me"

I've reported it - It wasn't my intention to do the post as I'm not exactly good with words but I've done the best I can
