Wow, this is so humbling. Thank you to everyone that's written me a message of support or contributed to the gofundme and a special thanks to those who've helped set it up or promote it, especially Rob for taking the time and writing such a moving campaign message, it brought a tear to my eye.

The contributions have been very generous, I really appreciate it. Thank you everyone. Today was the first day i've woken up with a smile on my face. smile

I lurked in this thread since early on, dipping in and out once in a while to catch up on your progress, and then I saw BC's share on my Facebook News Feed.

It was absolutely gutting to read; I'm so sorry to have read about the Boxster's demise. However, in equal measure am pleased both you and your daughter are OK.

Donated.
I would love to see what could happen with a Mk2 project, or even if you wish to put the money towards a house deposit thumbup

Thanks to everyone that's donated so far, and to Ian and Big Al for putting up a sticky - looks like we've gotten off to a great start! I'm sure with the power of the wider PH community behind us we'll have Escy back up and running in no time cool

On a more technical and curious note, we have heard some porsche 718 boxsters (new flat 4 turbo engines) got caught fire and porsche did some recall (I think mainly in the usa?). Do you think the reason was the similar? was it something to do in the fuel or turbo related? I do know that you did worked on the cooling system quite carefully and considering your attention to detail, it would be interesting to see what actually caused this?

This is so upsetting to read, I have also been following the thread for around 10 months and always love to read every comment. I think its a great ideal to set up the crowd funding, what an amazing bunch of people you all are to help Tom out. It just goes to show the car community is a very special world and I'm chuffed to be able to help and give my bit back. Good luck in the future and I can't wait to see what happens.Donation made - I can't believe believe I'm slightly involved in such a great build.

I've not contributed to the thread before, but what a blow! As others have said, it is only metal, all said.

Contributed a fiver, just a nominal amount as I'm skinted by my wedding happening this week! People such as yourself sharing such car stories are what makes the site such entertainment, so I think it's only fair.

Thank you everyone, the donations have been so generous. It's lifted away the cloud i've been stuck under this week. It's such a great community.

I'm not sure of the cause. It's quite depressing trying to pick the bones out of it. About an hour before it happened i'd opened the engine cover to show the guy that asked to buy it the engine, I couldn't smell fuel, there was no evidence of an oil leak either (it was parked in a different position on my drive and sat there for about 20 minutes and there were no oil drops). Just no signs of the impending doom, it was running fine at the time it happened. The ecu log showed the oil pressure dropped when I heard the noise and first noticed smoke. I initially thought the oil line for the turbo had failed but after seeing there was a hole in the air filter and the turbo has ingested a load of crap I'm thinking maybe the fire started a bit before that. The fuel pressure was stable. EGT's were the same on both banks. Basically, I don't know.

If anyone would like to be detective and take a look at the log i'm happy to share the file. The EcuMaster software is free to download.

Very eloquently written fundraising campaign - thanks!

My only criticism is the amount. Perhaps raise it to 5k as a figure for us to aim for; it'd be enough to buy a base car and allow him to made some meaningful progress.
Thanks for the encouragement! The intention was never to stop at £1,000, as people can continue to donate after the target has been reached.
I was just concerned that setting an unrealistically high target might actually discourage people from donating. However, I agree that we can be more ambitious given the rapid progress so far, so I've increased the target to £5,000 as suggested. Ask and ye shall receive biggrin

It's already over 700 quid! That's serious progress. I don't have my card info right now, and it will only be a fiver, as my finances are... well, student.
Tragic loss, but not as tragic as it might have been.

Donated there, i try and donate to something every month and couldn't think of a better one for me this month. I'm currently sinking a lot of money into my own project and the thought of this happening is such a scary thought. Glad you're picking yourself up a little bit matey and strong work on the salvage, cant have been easy in many ways.

Ouch!!! - sorry! - and you had put in two fire extinguishers. - Donated.

And thank you for posting this up, makes me want to get an extinguisher into my car, and I hope it makes others do the same. I hope you can figure out what happened, both from the log and from anything left behind.

Condolences from someone trying to scrape a mortgage deposit together. - And a huge congrats for getting yourself and your daughter out physically fine. - cars can be re-built / replaced, lives not so much.

Oh bks - gutted for you...........
Couldn't say anything else other than very sorry to hear about it. I would be absolutely heartbroken and wouldn't know where to start.
This was one of my favourite builds.

Good to know about the extinguishers being useless. I was going to get a couple for my car.

really glad to hear you're OK but it's gutting never the less.
