I appear to have bought myself a set of late facelift XJS front seats! Much more sporty than the original armchairs should be in keeping with the finished car. Will collect them next week and bolt them in at XJ restorations see what I think. My original seats needed two new levers and trim where the seat folds and they were £139 for both sides so £200 for a set of XJS seats which include intact folders doesn't seem so bad.

They will be retrimmed in red leather with diamond quilted centres and black stitching if I like them to match the plan for the rest of the interior

You're going to have to start waxing your tyres for even slightest chance they don't let the side down

Definitely one of my favourite threads. Love the car and the thinking behind it. Would love to have the time and money to do the same

I like that, it is a really subtle but effective change.

Cheers, still a long way to go but it's good that you can start to see the vision emerging

Progress will be slow the next few weeks as all of the chrome is off for rechroming and is estimated 6 weeks, new heated windscreen ordered from Pilkington again on about a 6 week wait. Will order the new wheels in the next couple of weeks or so that are on an 8 week wait.

In time for the windscreen to get back will be getting the new interior mirror with auto dimming and garage opener integrated and rain and headlight auto sensors. Will be fun to see if we can get that working with the erratic Jaguar wiper motor hehe

The next bit of work in the meantime will probably be recreating the upper level of the dashboard to fit the new gauges and warning light module displayed earlier in the thread and four round air system vents rather than the current three so that the clock gauge can be located in-between then middle two.

Question for you guys watching and contributing with the rebuild of the top facia element of the dashboard above I am considering whether to remove the glovebox for a clean look or to retain it but find a way of fitting a smaller aluminium style button to open it rather than the big clunky key chunk that they have as standard. Would removing it look too plain?

IMHO it would make it look too plain, better to break it up a little with a very tasteful opening mechanism.

The standard arrangement is very naff I must admit. I imagine a little twist turn Ali component could be made to fit the existing hole in the glove box lid. Modern cars dont have lockable glovebox lids anymore so no need to incorporate a lock in a new handle?
A black Perspex lid could be made and engraved on the inside and side lit with some sort of led to make a jaguar logo glow perhaps?

It wouldn't be the existing hole as I would remake the glovebox lid as part of the facia but yes I am sure a push and turn aluminium button would be preferable.

haha Perspex engraved lid.... I think my car will be giving enough purists a heart attack as it is hehe
