Thanks Paul I thought that would be the case. Might look to see if I can get some convex glass for the bigger ones. If not then I guess I'm going for a new set of the smaller ones that it currently has.

The heated windscreen finally arrived so the glass is in. Soon as chrome back from being redone it will be pretty much finished on the outside apart from the wheels.

They were bespoke made xenons from the USA. Information on them further back in the thread. They have integrated indicators and side lights so I could get rid of the old units from under the bumper and create the more modern look. Next set of pics will have the modified bumpers reattached once back from chroming

Are you sure they're legal? The bespoke xenons I knew of in the US were mainly for show and only legal in certain states.

They certainly are. Been through all that. Don't forget it's over 40 years old it doesn't have all the type approvals of a modern car so doesn't require washers or levelling or side repeaters and lots of other things that a modern car would

Fair enough. I was going to fit them to my old Rolls in the US until I was advised by the light supplier that they we're strictly legal across the country.

Still waiting for the chrome to come back :roll eyes:

Decided that I am going to paint the chrome trim around the front and rear screen and the window side trim in black. This should have the effect of lowering the look of the roof as the chrome will start at the waist down.

4 speed box being sourced and fitted and will take the opportunity with the engine out and the electrics being done to make it all as good as it can be.

Sometime soon will be on to the interior finally hehe I think it's important to get it all perfect as a shell and the mechanicals 100% first.

I think the anticipated go live date is now sometime in mid 2018.

If you're going 4-speed auto, there is a 6-speed version of the 4L80E that's a popular upgrade in the States.

I'm using a GM700R4. Not getting involved in electronic control of the L80 and the 6 speed version won't fit without major modifications to the transmission tunnel because it's a bigger box. Not interested in doing that. The 700R4 gives me what I need.

Managed to find a 700R4 box so with complete overhaul that's about £1000. Worth it for the gains.

Chroming company have let me down! They have said today that the new one piece rear bumper is too big for their tanks. Only taken them about 8 weeks to say that and they had the measurements before they quoted

That news has (irrationally) disappointed me, so I can only imagine how you must feel.

Anyway. While the engine is out I would like to make it look as good as possible . Ideas for engine dress up please. There is a pic of the engine on page 1

Excellent news about the 4 speed box. What are the ratios like? From memory they are they same as the old 3 speeder but with an overdrive 4th.? I guess the decision then is if you keep the current diff and reap all the benefits in quieter more relaxed cruising, or go for a higher final axle ratio and get better take off in 1st and some top gear benefits.

Nice problem to have in any case!

Yeah same ratios as the three speed and adds an 4th gear which is 0.69/1
