shame about the chrome Craig, a real downer, i cant believe any quality control would let that out the door.

im really missing my old Coupe ans was tempted when it appeared on eBay a few months back....................40 odd grand was a bit optimistic from the vendor mind, i think he had a few too many puffs on the magic pipebiggrin.........add was withdrawn after a couple of days.

Do you still have yours Rob? I'm keeping my eyes out for an affordable specimen,

darren
I’ve still got the coupe, good offers would be accepted smile

This is easily in my top 10 of PH project threads. Can't wait to see it getting finished.
Top 3 surely, at least. Epic thread.
Cheers. Will be good if I can finish it for the summer

I’m hoping by end of Jan the fitting kit for the gearbox will be here and then once that’s fitted all the mechanical and body work stuff is done and it will be trimming and fitting all the new electrical niceties

How are you managing to keep your enthusiasm going? I am not sure that I would have patience for this process?

It has only been this slow for cash flow issues because of how far it is over budget which could not have been forecast before the thing was back to bare metal. I am at a point where I got over the “it will be on the road next week” kind of feeling after the first six months once the bills started stacking up. I have got more disposable money this year so that why now I feel I can push it hard this year and get to that summer event.

My advice to anyone thinking of doing such a project in the future would be..... don’t hehe

I know this feeling & sentiment.

Early 90`s & I bought an old c1910 Steel Lifeboat hull.

I then spent 5 years rebuilding it, replaced Wooden Superstructure with Steel, refitted, rewired, everything you could imagine. Many times `The light went out at the end of the tunnel` especially when re realised the deck steel was too thin!

Eventually in June 96 we set sail from Watford to join the River Thames.

I will never forget leaving Brentford Lock & heading up the Tidal to Teddington with the Boat rocking as we motored in proper water & not a man made ditch with little flow!

Don`t lose sight of the final goal Craig.

That first `proper` journey in the car & all the woe`s will be forgotten................... Promise!!

I had my car repainted a few years ago. I knew I was in for paint and hood...but when it went bare-metal and every piece of exterior trim, the parts bills got quite un-amusing quite quickly...and I was lucky with ~2 sq cm of metal being needed on the entire car

I went through a mere fraction of what you did...and it hurt enough. That said, this will be a very, very special car when you're finished and I think the pain will be forgotten or fade. It's doing nothing to stop me looking at sIII Daimler Double Sixes (which I don't have the time, space or money to own...but god they're tempting).

My only question is with regard to your choice of HU for the hifi. I wanted to like CarPlay but after a few days with a car fitted with it, I found myself rather irritated by its limitations. I know the HU is only a small part of the build but is it worth considering a fully specified HU which has CarPlay as well, as opposed to one which has CarPlay without the rest of it?

Then again, the HU can always be changed in time; I did the hifi in my car in early 2007 and kept the DLS speakers, Alpine amp and sub and swapped the DIN HU out for one with bluetooth streaming a couple of years ago (instead of the 2007 iPod "solution.")

The choice of HU, which has now been superceeded and the new model which I will get does android auto too, has been specified for a specific reason. It is only 2.5 inches deep because there is no drive or hand drive or anything. The space in the dashboard is hugely limited because of the design of the bulkhead and a standard double din unit would only fit at the very bottom of the stack and that’s no use at all.

That's a very, very good reason!

I stuck with standard DIN in my car for a similar reason as pop-out screens don't (or certainly didn't when I looked) clear the dash in 911s and I wasn't prepared to start cutting metal for double-din.

I can easily think of 10 cool projects but I wouldn't necessarily rank them in any order. This is certainly in my list though.

No trimming isn’t happening until March. Currently doing gearbox conversion and rewire so support all the new electronics
