I haven't updated this thread in ages so it's about time for an update. Over the summer i've just been enjoying the car as much as possible, using it nearly every weekend! Took it to a local show in September with a work friend in his 635, which was good fun. Then I also attended the Silverstone SS, had a great time there also again the weather was on our side.

Can't believe how fast this year has gone although in that time i've really got used to the car and still think it's great fun to drive which is good! I like the rarity factor too, I know it's no exotica but i have been surprised how few people have heard of Ginetta since getting the car.

There are things that need doing, not because they've broken (rather surprisingly) but more because I like to make a car the best it can be within reason, it'll never be immaculate as I like to use it as much as possible smile .

Any way a pic from Silverstone courtesy of Lezdix (hope he doesn't mind me using the pic!)

But finally as it's coming into the winter I thought I'd treat myself and the car to a little upgrade... a set of Omex throttle bodies with the 600 series ecu. Needs a set of cams to go with it but I can't wait to take delivery and get them on! Should sound pretty good too biggrin

Here's a pic from the web of what they'll hopefully look like when they turn up...

Regards,
Matt

I wondered if it was yours I saw at Silverstone. It looks better than the photos.
Thank you smile , but I'm not sure it does.

I beg to differ. It's rarer than a Ferrari, and fewer people will recognise it. It most certainly IS exotica. I'd always favour the choice that shows some imagination rather than the brand that everyone recognises "because itser best, innit?"
Thank you for the comments smile , I definitely don't get a lot of the "sick bruv" etc... comments hehe

That, in abundance. OP, you have a rare and hand-made car that entirely pleases you. You could spend 10-100x as much and never get there! It's a lovely choice, and I am glad to see you are enjoying it; long may you do so.
Thank you for the positive comments, let's hope for a dry and warm 2017 biggrin

I've now fitted the throttle bodies, nice job to do but not when temperature's were around freezing point! But I was desperate to get them fitted biggrin. The car was sent to a local tuner this week who set everything up for me. Having got the car back the power & performance difference was instantly noticeable, it also sounds pretty good too! Think some decent cams would unlock a considerable amount of HP also but that's a future modification.

Got a few little snagging jobs to finish off but nothing to stop me enjoying a winters day blast biggrin.

Still looking good matt. Even better now the itb's are on! I'm not jealous at all.biggrin

We will have to try and meet up for a blat somewhere this summer, that would be good fun! Between the itb's and a set of Weber carbs i'm sure we can make a lot of noise somewhere!biggrin

Keep up the good work matey!
Cheers Adam! Definitely would be good fun having a drive out on some decent roads, have to organise something later in the year driving . Will you be going to the Pistonheads Silverstone SS in March? You could take the Indy out then wink

Suggestion: for heaven's sake run an airfilter - it wont affect power when sized correctly.

But running open trumpets on the road will kill the engine in 5-10k miles easily: dust ingestion will utterly shag the bores and oil consumption will rocket/compression disappear. Don't do it.

(BT, DT...)
Sorry should of put a pic with the air filter fitted. Here's one to prove it does have a filter biggrin

It's been a while so I thought I'd write a little update. Having had the chance to use the car more since the throttle bodies have been fitted the difference it has made is very noticeable both performance and noise wise. Running the lambda sensor also means it still returns good mpg when cruising but gives much improved performance when wanted so the best of both worlds (not that I'm worried about mpg biggrin ). The induction noise is quite addictive, not sure my neighbours think the same when I go out early on a Sunday morning though hehe .

I picked up a set of NS-2Rs quite cheap so I've put them on my spare set of wheels which I'll hopefully use on a future track day, not sure what they're like but for the money I paid they are worth a go.

Also booked a session at the PH Silverstone SS, the weather was typically British but I had fun. The car was very lively on the Dunlop's I have fitted and I did have a grassy moment but no harm done thankfully. I was definitely the slowest car in my session but it was fun to have a blast down the straights and keep the car in one piece. Hopefully my next track experience will be in the dry smile

A couple I purchased from the trackside photographer Chris Teagles
http://www.cteagles.net/events

There was some cleaning to do today though...

Love it! This car is going to teach you soo damn much!

Once you get used to it get to Cadwell, it will be so well suited to that track you will have a great time smile.
Thank you smile . It's been great owning the car so far, slowly learning my limits of ability with the car! Tinkering about with the mechanicals has been equally fun to do also.

I'm possible going to Cadwell for the first time next month, but that's to help someone else with their car. It does look like a great circuit to drive though! Maybe/hopefully I'll get a go in the future!

With the weather being so nice today i took the car out for an early morning run, only did about 25 miles but it was enjoyable. Can't beat some induction noise on a Sunday morning biggrin .

Once back i thought I'd take the wheels off and give them a good clean and polish. They're not in too bad condition so thought it's worth looking after them. I didn't have a small enough brush for the back of the spokes but they're a lot better than they were.

It's been a while since I updated this thread, that's mainly because there's no real changes to the car with the only expense being an oil & filter change since my last update. That said, I'm still getting plenty of use out of it. I was asked to take a cousin to his prom which I was happy to do. It was funny turning up at the venue with lots of more exotic and expensive cars around us. Didn't see another kitcar there either, not sure why hehe . As the weather was nice and I'd recently joint them I went down to a KitNet meet last night, was a nice drive in the sun and the people and cars there were great. Looking forward to using the car whilst the weathers still good and maybe make a few changes in the autumn/winter.

Pic below is thanks to a KitNet member

Matt

Great thread, love this little car. Good to see you are still so enthusiastic about this type of car. Hope other younger PH'ers look at cars like this rather than chasing numbers.

Enjoy the rest of the Summer and driving the G20.
Thank you smile . I'd definitely recommend trying a kitcar to anyone around my age, they're great fun to drive and relatively cheap to maintain until you start to add more nice shiny bits biggrin . Hopefully the nice weather continues!

Cracking car mate, I'm sure it'll be a good laugh on a sunny day wink

I'm ages with yourself, and something like this did cross my mind when car hunting earlier this year. I'm limited with space though and didn't want to have to rent somewhere to store it frown

Parents are looking to move house soon, pushing them for a garage!

Bet your mates love it.
Thank you smile , it always puts a smile on my face. I'm quite lucky having the space to keep it under cover otherwise I wouldn't have it. To be honest not many of my mates are huge fans of this type of car most are into their fast hatchbacks, but they understand my madness!

Not that i posted on that thread, and missed his later clarification on the track car.
Sorry for any offence caused.

Anyway Matt, i'm a big fan of what you're doing and wish i'd done the same when younger. I left hard core cars until later in life, and it can a little painful at times. Not that i intend to stop, they're addictive!
Thanks for your comments smile . I'm fortunate to be in the situation I am so try to make the most of it! It's great fun though.

Had a nice parcel delivered over the weekend as well biggrin

So i spent last Fri/Sat/Sun at the Silverstone Classic, it was definitely an experience going camping with the car! Although the daytime weather was fairly good the overnight rain soon made me realise my tent was like a sieve hehe . Some very nice cars both racing and in the display area's, the JPS BMW 635 was definitely one of my favourites. anyway i've put a few photos below smile

Camping in the sun...

Then it rained and things got a little messy...

There's definitely not that many on UK roads, it'd be interesting to know how many are actually MOT'd/taxed.

Yesterday I took the car out at Castle Combe, my first trackday at the circuit. Being a local circuit which i've spectated at a lot I knew the track wasn't kind to making mistakes. It was great fun to be out on track even if I wasn't going all out. What I do know is it's very addictive, I want to do it again already!

The biggest surprise of the day was turning up to find another road going G20 also taking part! I've never seen another in the flesh and the other owner was as surprised as I was. It was great to have a chat and see the differences between the two, although they're both very much the same as you might expect. The black car is one of the cars Ginetta used for the NEC show when the car was launched.

Not sure if you've already been asked this, but what are the vents in the left sill?
As Adam mentioned the exhaust runs just behind the body so they're there to help cooling.

Brilliant car and well done for not following the crowd ! It's a car to learn how to drive and much more involving than a hatch back.

I saw you at Silverstone classic !
Thanks, it's great fun and like you say no electronic aids to help you out so it's just you and the car smile . The Silverstone weekend was great although a bit damp as I was camping!

Yeah the Indy has gone to pastures new. I have a trackday booked at donington on the bike though so no tears will be shed.laugh
laugh Donington should be great on a bike as long as it's dry!
