Any updates?
Sorry, i've been away in Mexico for the past few weeks. Not much of an update i'm afraid apart from it will be going up for sale. I was going to use it as a tow car for my race car but i've been offered a good cheap X5 with a towbar which suits me better for having tyres/spares in the back so will be moving the merc on.
I'll just nonchalantly paste this here link in, don't mind me http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2001-MERCEDES-S500-/1620...
Hi Steven;
I don't know if you remember but I, along with a few others, offered to buy this from you when you first got it but you needed the car at the time.
I really wanted an s500 so I continued to look and found myself one very similar to yours on an 02 plate. Had it over a couple of months now, very happy with it, drives great and is more rapid than it should be for its size, my experience is very comparable to your description in your advert.
Good luck with the sale, it shouldn't hang around too long.
Steve.

Yes, i remember you were looking to buy it and you'd kindly offered me more than what i paid for it at the time. Seemed to be quite a theme when i first got it so i don't think it'll have any problems selling on eBay now. I thought it was sold but the buyer changed their minds for whatever reason so eBay seems the most sensible thing to do and just let anyone interested on here know it's available on there. It's almost at reserve with 6 days to go so confident it'll go.
Glad to hear you got one and are enjoying it, they are great cars and if i was in the same situation again S500 will be the first search i put into eBay!
So, I am on the bus coming home from a lovely evening out with the wife in London. I’d been trying to work out how to explain why I’d just bought an mx5 from Manchester all evening, with no luck. I receive a Second chance offer on ebay, for the S500 I had narrowly missed out on 4 days previously. My heart begins to race…the mx5 really just a consolation prize to stop me staring at the smoker barge thread all day and adding grotbox £2k XJ8’s to my ebay watchlist. I took a deep breath, pressed “Buy it now” and began to explain.
Glasgow’s not that far from Manchester in the big scheme of things is it? (yes, I know now….)
So I booked the last two berths on the Caledonian Sleeper out of Euston on Friday night. I was looking forward to a good night’s sleep somewhere more comfortable than the couch.
After lugging a Car seat, picnic, a bag and a toddler on the northern line we boarded the train at 11pm, finally managing to restrain a bouncing 4 year old at 12.30am
We arrived bright and early in Glasgow had an excellent square sausage bap and coffee and waited for Steve to pick us up in the Barge.
Now at this point I should point out that I’ve never even sat in a W220. I briefly spanked a W140 S350 down some Surrey lanes as a, frankly rather dangerous, youth and remember marvelling at how underpowered it seemed and yet how the traction control light did not stop flashing during my brief tenure at the wheel. (I’ve never even sat in an mx5 either for that matter).
Child, wife and Nokia 6210 safely snuggled in it’s holster making the world feel right again, we headed south. Now I know how such a vehicle feels I don’t think I can bear not to have one in my life going forward. The thrust combined with beautiful serenity is just remarkable.
3 hours to the Yorkshire dales passed rapidly, on to collect car number 2. Mk2 mx5 ’99 on the V. Absolutely mint, and a steal at £1,100. Keys to the S class handed to the wife it’s time for some wind in the hair fun. What a car.
Sadly once on the M62 it began hammering it down. At this point I want to be back in the S. I now learn that mx5 not ideal for motorways as the wife blasts off into the distance (she beats me home by 20 minutes).
Anyway, I hope to keep this thread alive with the further adventures of the £900 S500.
First jobs, down to the local Croatian wash squad for a deep clean and the a quick tart up of the rusty edges with a rattle can to keep it under control.
