Glad to hear You're getting on alright with the thing. How does it compare to the old bus? And 48mpg does seem poor for a 2.0 diesel unit, I've had 42 from a 2.5 N/A straight six! Also what made you choose the Mondy over something like a Skoda superb or another large estate?
The ford diesel isn't the most economical though, that being said it's very much dependent on driving style and weather conditions. And there's more to running costs than simply mpg anyway.
My old Skoda averaged a real 49 mpg over 35000 miles, dash indicated something else but they all lie. However I couldn't get it to better an indicated 40 mpg one evening on a very wet and windy drive down from Glasgow a few years back.
A tail or head wind makes a massive difference.

in terms of mpg bear in mind it does a lot of urban work in between those mega jaunts across country,

a lead right foot and an enthusiasm for driving doesn't help matters much either, recent trip up to ardfern was a perfect example of poor mpg being the result of an enthusiastic empty run up smile empty Scottish A and B roads does tend to bring out the worst in me.

will try and keep a tab on one of my fills this week and really try not to drive in a spirited fashion see if I can crack 50mpg.

sure a few tweaks here and there might help the mpg

They're a lovely big bus, and you wouldn't buy a second if the first was shït. Do you fully rotate the tyres front-rear, side-side etc or just keep on replacing a pair when needed? I imagine you get an alignment each time too?

45+mpg is awesome, but I'm only driving petrols.

well no pics from Elgin due to time constraints

43k miles now

So here's a pic from exciting Glasgow with a conscious effort to not photograph left handed for the upside down pics

Currently sat at a longterm of 42.42 mpg

That's real world figures done fill to fill using an app called road trip
Personally would love to get it up to 50mpg but that would require a huge change in use and driving style

The best I've seen out a tank was 48 and that was a full tank on the motorway
Albeit mixed driving. very inefficient on cruise at anything about 65 despite 70mph being under 2000
RPM in 6th

cheers rob, must be the town driving that it is bringing it down. in my wifes c180 i can see mid 40's on a long run but that is pure M road / A road 70mph speeds. go ahead and enjoy as is.

Surprised your only managing 42mpg....

I recently took over a 2012 Focus Titanium company car with a 1.6 Diesel engine and 100k on the clock (apparently they will buy me a new car next year!). Since getting that I've done 2,000 miles in a month, very mixed but I'd say 50/50 round town and motorway duties with a couple of Manchester to Newcastle trips thrown in, it's also not particularly had an easy life and it's doing 52mpg! I know it's much smaller than the Mondeo but wouldn't have thought it was that big a difference when it came to mpg.

On 52k now

That said I've deliberately driven sensibly this tank and 300 miles in I'm showing an indicated 59.7mpg
I've not had a harsh acceleration or broke a speed limit all day frown

Hypermiling is a one-way road to madness.

My record was 1300km at 69.9 MPG, 100kmh up and down the A5 between Frankfurt and Basel, in a Vectra C.

The combination of a diesel Vectra and slipstreaming coaches for a week nearly sent me loopy.

07-07 19305 miles 2 front tyres (2x Uniroyal Rainsports)

02-01 55197 miles 2x Bridgestone potenzas on the font.
14-02 62038 Full service and 2x front tyres (Rainsports)

and now onto the bad news, its broken. frown

had a visit to the local dealer last week for excessive play in the driveshafts. which is fine all covered under warranty no issue apart from taking a day to diagnose and then waiting 7-10 days for the parts to come into stock.

fast forward to this week and its broken down

cuts out wont start so dragged into the local dealer again by the AA on Tuesday morning. fast forward to today the dealer is now saying that its not under warranty. for reference the car is on 65k miles and 10 month old.

maybe its just me reading it wrong but I read unlimited as "unlimited" not 60k miles so off the road for a decent length of time, they cant seem to be bothered to honour their own warranty terms and people wonder why main dealers get a bad reputation.

time for a bh at ford customer relations

What are you doing in the gap rob? I take it a licensed Private Hire vehicle isn't easy to come by? You can't just borrow one from the dealer....

Have they advised why they don't consider the car to be within warranty? The first year looks, as you say, to be unlimited mileage and I can't see any exclusions covering "hire or reward," etc.

Rob, did I see you in a queue in Glasgow last Friday on the M8? I was heading east at about 3.30pm, there was a blue Mondeo estate taxi, Glasgow authority on the yellow plate, 16 plate, with a PH sticker top L of the rear tailgate.

My old shed did a few miles last week, having driven from Leeds to London on Sunday I had the journey from hell back home to Leeds on Thu, then up to Paisley on Fri, back home Fri evening. Topped the oil, in 4000 miles since the service I've lost a litre. So far so good, this thing could go for a while yet.

Load of ste, that. I'd have a moan on social media too. Companies tend to take that seriously. Can't believe a 10 month old car with 65k is out of warranty. Would this prevent you from having another ford? I only ask as Mercedes (even though much more costly) seem to be common in the private hire, and do an unlimited mileage 3 year warranty.
