A few of the questions are justified to ask, as they're potential bills on known issues and it makes sense to know if the work's been done, for example the PCV is probably the most common T5 issue, but it's only £60 or so in parts and a couple of hours to do it yourself.
However some of them are nuts, like the drivers seat.

Sounds like he wants a concours car that he won't need to spend a penny on.

Some of those questions are silly. What does he expect?

As for the driver's seat comms having a tidy seat at that mileage is possible albeit not unmarked I'd say but not shagged is probably a better term. But that's down to alot of factors including if you like sitting on your bolsters outside the Golden Arches, if you are a big lad, and loads of other factors.

Don't believe me? Here's a seat in one car of my dad's at 163k. The white stain is a chalk stain from me (facepalm):

And another of a car we sold back in 2010. This one had 210k on the clock which we owned from 111k:

It's a shame you are selling though frown. You don't fancy a swap do you? smile.

Why are they unreasonable questions? It's not a £1500 shed, it's strong money so I'd want to know if what sounds like the common faults with these cars had been addressed on yours, to make it more desirable over any of the others for sale for similar money

It's actually not, it's quite cheap belive it or not. I think they are daft because at the end of the day it's a multi owner, 14 year old car. I have no idea if some of that stuff has been done or not. All I know is at the moment it's perfectly acceptable given age and milage.

Fair enough it's your car mate smile I just think if I was spending £4000 on a 14 year old, multi owner car that has the potential for astronomical bills, I'd like to know as much as possible about it as well.

Is there a link to this thread in your ad? If not I would think about putting one as just reading this would be a decent selling point imo.

Good luck with the sale it does seem a decent one

I don't think the potential buyer has done anything wrong. If anything it shows he's done his homework, is Keen but needs to know where to factor any work (he might do it himself for peace of mind). I've sent a list before and had back 'call me'. So I've rang and had swerves to questions then 'better off seeing it's. A 2 hour drive to see a car that turns out to be a valeted pig.

I'm not saying that's the OP, far from it but if you are travelling to view you need to satisfy your basics first..

I think the guy probably needs to get laid.

It's a 14yr old, 160k mile car. 'Is the seat unmarked? What oil has been used? How old are the front driveshafts?'

Really?! Some of the questions are sound (PCV valve etc) Not sure why he's asking how well the Haldex system works - they were ste when they were new!

He'd buy the car, and then be in contact in 6months time when he finds a stonechip on the headlamp washer jet, threatening to take you to small claims court.

Avoid.

^^^ this!

I'd email the chap back and simply say, "I know some, but not all of the answers to your questions. Come and have a look at the car to decide for yourself, or perhaps a 160k miler isn't for you."

If it makes you feel any better, I'm selling an E46 330i Touring with 88k miles on it and I can't even give the thing away. Strange car selling times at the moment, I've usually found anything sub about £5k goes very quickly, but this and my EP3 have taken ages to shift.

Jesus, good luck!

I wouldn't entertain that... had similar when selling my old T5R, chap emailed to inform.me that he didn't want his time wasted thus he'd be sending some questions for me to answer. An A4 sheet arrived containing utter tripe like 'Are the washer jets equal and good pressure'

I thanked him for his time and advised that the car wasn't available to him. Anybody that pedantic is just hassle you don't need, especially with old, high mileage cars. There's asking questions and there's just being a bit of a bell end. Redirect him to his local main dealer and best of luck with the sale sir.

Well selling the Volvo turned into a bit of a story. Basically I received a deposit over 4 weeks ago, yet the guy never came to collect the car despite making 3 separate arrangements to turn up, the latest being last night. In the meantime a nice chap got in touch and was interested. I ended up contacting him last night after having been stitched up yet again, and we spoke on the phone this morning. Within 90mins there was a guy from Shipley at my door, we loaded the car into the trailer and then away it went frown

I believe the new owner is a member on here, although not a poster. Hopefully it treats him as well as it has done me, and maybe we'll see an update in time.

Just like that's my Volvo R ownership over. Im a bit gutted actually, it was a lovely car, extremely competent, very fast, very refined and very practical. It just no longer made sense for what I do.

You will be missed you magnificent brick. At least I have a panda to play with.

Sad times.

Have enjoyed following this thread and both it and your advice was very helpful.

Mine remains, though it's long term future is also being questioned too.

All the best!
