Everyone should click through to see the pic full-size btw.

Good tip that, looks even better in the full res versions. Whatever setting your camera are at make it look like it's made of liquid. Looks ace..

Yes it is.
So, is it a 90 degree V?Looks that way in the pics, certainly not 60 or 120, which would kind of confirm my recollection that the block was originally RV8 based.
Cracking engine. Interesting that OEMs are now going back to similar engines. Small capacity, V6, turbo etc. In many respects, very ahead of its time!

Good point. The 6r4 engine was actually derived from a cosworth dfv rather than rv8, though by the time twr had developed it for group c it had changed beyond recognition.Looks that way in the pics, certainly not 60 or 120, which would kind of confirm my recollection that the block was originally RV8 based.

New ford gt has a 3.5 litre twin turbo v6 with about 590 bhp. Sounds familiar!
I think it's heartwarming that so many of us have such strong memories of the 220, mine are seeing the car at the NEC when it was new and amazed at its width, I then saw one in Jeddah Saudi Arabia (where I'm currently working) in around 1996 it was dark blue with a damaged sill (I think I have pics of it) next memory was around 2002 in Wilmslow when I was working at the Porsche dealer it was a 'H' plate in turquoise and believed to be a pre-production model.............this is when they were 5 figures. Many years later (2009?) whilst working for a Bentley dealer I went to Preston to appraise a lhd ex race car converted for road use............it was at a very modest house even by PH standards and was actually stored inside the house. We never finished a deal as they were worth peanuts back then. I raced a British racing green race car around my scalextrics track back in the day and still have the 1:18 maisto model from the early 90's. A truly iconic hypercar in my opinion
Great thread Phil, I have always has a soft spot for the XJ220, I remember following the development story with great interest.
While I was at the Elvetham Heath Car Show in 2013, this bright yellow XJ220 was present, though it looks slightly different to yours, spotlights where the indicators would be:
I never saw the owner so don't know who brought it along. Does anyone know which variation of XJ220 this is?
Cheers,
Steve

My first contact with an XJ220 was in the early 90's I turned into an office car park in Aberdeen, probably a bit quickly and just managed to avoid the 220 coming the other way!
Years later I was buying a used XJR from Stratstone in Aberdeen and round the back was an unregistered 220 with near 0 miles. It was serviced annually and only driven off and on to the trailer that delivered it.
I saw the burgundy V12 at Goodwood FoS last year, from memory it's a conversion from the V6.
