Personally I love the gt3 look sport design wheels but they're a pain to refurb!
My preferred wheels on a 996, a PITA to clean though!

Are you pleased you had the hack done? I can't wait...

What's the sound like? is it like the PSE system?
I am very happy with the sound, it is now exactly as I want it. When I purchased the car it was fitted with PSE back boxes that were corroded and blowing.

I fitted Powerflow sports back boxes but found them intolerably loud and droney in the car so sourced some good condition standard back boxes. I drove it around like that for about a month before having the mod performed. The standard setup is far too muted.

My friend over the road has a 997C2S with switchable PSE and my car is fractionally louder and a bit throatier. It is how it should have sounded from the factory.

Car looks great! Centre console delete is on the list! Is this possible with the blue interior though?
Thanks! Yes the console delete carpet section is available in black, blue and red.

New Owner 911 996 Targa year 2002
Thanks for all the postings, good to read and informative.
Recently acquired the above, dumped a BM 430D as boring and now back to motoring.
Have a few questions for all, will start with a couple, maybe can advise:
Rear fogs, drivers side only? is that normal, bulb in nearside is ok but not functioning.
I found coiled cable behind nearside rear light cluster for engine compartment boot release, where should that be housed?

Possibly not a popular view point but I really prefer these cars with the amber indicators (I only looked at amber cars when buying mine) as I think it's a more cohesive design (and closer to the Panamerica concept that heralded the 996).

Amber headlights and side repeats are an easy swap.

Nice Tip CFo

I'm inclined to agree and much prefer the look of the amber lights particularly on silver cars. (CFo!)

Mine however came with clear lenses; would this have been an aftermarket fit? Would consider swapping them out, although saying that not sure that the amber looks so good with Zenith blue bodywork...

CFo yours looks lovely. Which wheels are those??

This thread is proving to be expensive. Now interested in relocating my heated seat switches and doing the centre console delete!

Note to self. Do the important stuff first!

Just keep coming back to 996's and you guys aren't helping at all!
They look such good value right now.... I know that it's probably over done but for me I'd only consider buying an already rebuilt one with preventative work done, they don't command that much of a premium so I just don't see the point in buying one without the work already done?

Honestly? You'll get endless different opinions on here, especially when it comes to differences between gen1 & 2 models (and the work they may need). But really, just buy the car that you're happiest with, make sure the fluids are warmed up and drive it like you stole it driving

More light comparisons then! Boxster with later/optional clears?

(Couldn't resist the sign when faffing about at a photo shoot)

I'm quite tempted, but I have nowhere to put the heated seat switches so I'm a bit stumped currently.

Mine are Litronic, would these have been supplied clear or have these been changed?

I've not given up hope yet, but it looks like I've lost one of the keys to my 996.1 cab, which is very annoying.

I'm guessing that the only source of replacement blade+transponder+fob is the OPC for £1M?

I've got a couple of questions about my new 996, when I picked it up last week the previous owner told me that the remotes on the keys don't work, the lights flash but nothing happens. I've googled it and everything that I've found states that my 2003 996 should have a 3 button remote, my remote's have 2 buttons?

Is it a case of getting them coded in or do I need new remotes from Porsche? Also can a specialist code keys or does it have to be a main dealer? I think that my nearest main dealer is about 25-30 miles away, my local specialists are just a mile away.

I also noticed today that the intermittent windscreen wipers don't work, the wipers work fine but when you flick the stalk to intermittent the wipers sweep the screen but after that, nothing happens. Does anyone know if this is a common fault? I'm wondering if the relay has gone, part of me also wonders if it's a faulty intermittent time control switch?

Thanks,

Paul

With luck they just need coding in. Search online for guys to do that; much cheaper than OPCs.

Regards your intermittent wipers, have you adjusted the time-delay rotator on the the dash (right of radio/sat nav)? Full left is an extremely long delay.......
