Early 3.4 C2 didnt have traction control so dont get hung up looking for one with the button!!
The later C2s didn't have traction control as standard either. It was an option even on the facelift 3.6 C2.

Very similar spec. Mine has: -

Sport package - sport seats, LSD, M030 suspension
Traction control
18" alloy wheels
3 spoke steering wheel
Uprated Hi-fi sound system
Trip computer

Only thing I wish it had was cruise control, but can't be too fussy. It's harder to add on the cable throttle cars I believe.

Keen to delete the rear wiper and centre console. I spotted a few Cyprus import cars without the rear wiper and it looks better I think and would save a bit of weight. Also some uprated headlamp bulbs are definitely needed!

If the car has an aftermarket head unit, will this likely still be using the porsche amplifier?
Very nice car smile Is that Lapis blue? How do you find the sports seats? I hope you don't mind me asking, but what did you pay for it? PM if you'd prefer smile

Hi Olly,
I did have a 996 C2, and have just swapped for a 987S.

You have not bought the wrong car! Both are epic biggrin

Car is Ocean Blue with Metropol blue interior. Interior colour really makes the car feel special and I'd highly recommended it if it works with the exterior colour.

Seats feel great to me. I did a 6hr drive in them on the way back and had no real complaints. Driver and passenger adjust for height and reach manually, and electrically recline. I wouldn't turn a car down for not having them however, you need to buy these cars on condition and not spec.

I like the look of rear wiper delete too, saves 2.2kg apparently, can be a pig to do from what I've read.

Fitted Osram 130+ bulbs to mine recently, they are mereley hopeless now rather than useless!

Good stuff this!

I'm five months into 996 ownership and am still having fun.

I specifically went for a Tip over the manual, tried both but love the split personality of the auto. Mine's an '03 3.6 Targa with a shade under 60k covered. Convinced the powers that be it's a 4 seat hatchbacksmile

Not sure yet if it's a keeper as needed to scratch the itch but a seriously impressive vehicle.

With the amount of automatic vs manual the auto must be pretty good? Is it quick to shift?

Once warm, yes! I could swear at times it's worked out the driving style I want but in reality, I can't believe a car this old is that clever!

There's so much torque that wafting about in 5th is usually quite adequate but a dab on the loud pedal gets it shifting pretty quick. For fun, I often drop a gear from the wheel rocker switch before an overtake, that's effortless and entertaining.

I've a chum with a well sorted (and driven) 3.2 Boxster S. When I follow him through the twisties, I can see him chasing gears whilst I'm just keeping up letting the 996 do its own thing. I rarely use the manual.

Perfect for a lazy git like me!smile

I went for an early C4 18 months ago and love it. Was also a private sale and has a huge folder of history totalling over £42K (Yes, I was sad enough to add it up) had to sell it to missus a sensible 4 seater as my son had just been born!

What wheels are those? Cayenne?
I believe they were called the SportTechno wheel. An 18" wheel option on 996s with a similar, bigger design available for the Cayenne

Correct they are sport techno. They weren't an original option choose from new but the Pervious owner ordered them from porsche when the engine was replaced.

The majority is. It does include some big ones including new engine and gearbox!

Excellent thread - so much wise buying from everyone. smile

Hope the OP doesn't mind but here's mine which I picked up about a month ago. 02, 70k miles, manual, metropol with no psm or sunroof. Like most right now I was ideally after a 3.4l 014 car (so I'm a little envious of the OP) but the ones I looked at were overpriced and under looked after. I'm developing its upgrade program at the moment but console/PCM delete, milltek back boxes and PSS10s are on the list.

Not at all, it would be good to see some more pics if you have. Yours looks spot on!

I was keen for no sunroof but can't be too fussy and I actually quite like it now I've got it.

Great thread on this great 911 variant. I gave up reading the forum for a long time because of all the doom and gloom, you've relighted my enthusiasm. I've had my 2001 3.4 C2 manual for 5 years now and have to say it been great. Unfortunately i haven't driven it as much as i should (10K in my ownership taking her up to 79K) but my 110 mile a day commute would probably wipe me out financially!!!
Look forward to further posts as you start your journey.

Nice colour. Is that a factory sports exhaust on it? I looked at one that had that and did like the sound. Just the right side of loud.
