The indie I use recommended the fitting of LTT when water pump was done last year, naturally I took their advice.

Mine is a 3.4

RE: Lower temperature thermostat, Hartech's advice is to fit one so I did. Plus I track my car so LTT won't hurt.

Drivers side was indeed set up for wrong wheel drive, but you literally have to reverse the wiper centre clip 180deg and all is well. Just pops out with your thumb.
Thank you for the picture; fitted a new pair just now, quick two-minute job.

My Indy (Chris Denning, Cardiff) said not to bother with a LTT on the 3.4. Better to run the engine at the temperature it's designed for. Bore score doesn't seem to be a general issue on the 3.4.
Had a long chat with Chris prior to purchasing a 996 and my understanding was he was taking the Hartech route of LTT and Millers oils for these models, so when I found the car I purchased I got that done not long after buying.
Interestingly, Chris did a PPI for me on another '98 car I was looking at, this had a replacement factory engine and that engine was sitting on about 49,000 miles but had scored bores amongst other issues.
Here's mine, just fitted new front M030 suspension with all new arms etc, will start on the rear in the Spring.

Small update. I spend an unhealthy amount of time searching these forums so decided to show some support.

I also wanted a keyring. Staying away from the usual Porsche design ones I went with this for something a bit different.

My passenger side air vent looked broken since I bought the car, as all the horizontal slats were loose and didn't move up and down together. It turned out there was a banana shaped clip that had somehow come off inside the vent. With the vent out the car and a pair of pliers I managed to clip it back in to all the slats - better than a new vent!

The vent comes out with 3 screws - you can see the position of them by the pink tabs.

Good to read about others 3.4’s and great to hear that they are finally getting the following they so richly deserve in my opinion.

I bought a 1998 registered 3.4 C2 last year and am using it for my 75 mile daily commute, having put just over 16,000 miles on it this year.

I looked for a while for the spec I wanted so mine has, cable throttle, no sunroof, factory LSD, TC, heated seats, 3 spoke steering wheel and the original Becker head unit which helpfully takes mini-discs (didn’t spot that until I got it home!).

When I bought the car I had the IMS bearing upgraded, had a new clutch at the same time, new brake lines, and a boro-scope to make sure all was well.

Recently I’ve had the front suspension refreshed, a major service with new brake fluid and gearbox oil.

I also had the centre console and door cards stripped to locate some interior rattles which were driving me insane. Without doubt the best £130.00 I’ve ever spent and wish I’d done it a year ago.

Unfortunately had a puncture in the NS rear tyre this morning on the way to work, but the rear tyres are getting a bit low anyway so have just ordered two 285/30/18 N rated Michelin PS2’s, which I have been very pleased with, to be fitted tomorrow morning.

Next jobs will be rear suspension refresh and new rear discs and pads early in the New year and I have just booked a “gundo / pse hack” for mid-December as really miss the noise of my old C4S but can’t quite stomach the £2000 price tag of new system.

I love the car, the way it goes, stops, handles, and from next month, sounds. Occasionally feel guilty about all the miles I’m piling on it but believe these things are meant to be used.

Here's my 1999 Carrera 2. It's manual with cable throttle and factory LSD. I have had the 'Gundo' 1.5 inch exhaust bypass mod performed and deleted the centre console. Future plans are a suspension refresh and lowering.

Are you pleased you had the hack done? I can't wait...

What's the sound like? is it like the PSE system?

They are listed as option M408 - 18 inch Techno wheel on the build sheet. Am pleased the first owner specced them!

Car looks great! Centre console delete is on the list! Is this possible with the blue interior though?

The turbo alloys look good on the left hand side of the car, but I've always thought it's a shame Porsche didn't produce a handed side for the right. (Compare a view of the left hand side of the car and the right hand side and the wheels "point" in different directions). Personally I love the gt3 look sport design wheels but they're a pain to refurb!
