How do you find having the roof down? I've got to admit there's a lad in town with an M4 convertible and it's such a big car he looks like (& I hate myself for being so judgemental) such a t

I'm sure it mainly is because the person in question is a bit of a prat but it's just so "LOOK AT ME!" I'd struggle to do it. I think it's all down to the size of the thing as a little roadster I wouldn't feel half as embarrassed.

Dunno- it's done nothing but piss down since I got it! The only journey I've done roofless was coming back from the handover at the dealer. I live in a village in the sticks, so nobody to see me. The best thing about roof down was being able to hear the engine more - it's a lovely sounding thing.

I agree and when I test drove the M4 Convertible I really enjoyed the noise from the exhaust and the turbo noises...plenty don't like the sound of that engine but I really did. 
My first weekend with the car has been a bit of a mixed bag, to say the least. It was superb up until yesterday, when all sorts of drive-train warning messages flashed up, and it subsequently went in to limp home mode.
It has been recovered to the dealer this morning and it would appear it has a faulty crank-shaft sensor.
They were horrified at the dealer, and have given me a new 7-series to use until my car is fixed. So I had a lovely massage from the seat whilst driving up the M11 this morning.
Which is nice.

Just spent the weekend driving a 435d coupe rental across Scotland. Had a nice spec with the full red leather 'boudoir' as you put it and I really liked it! Really brightens up the interior and makes it feel extra special. Also had the HK stereo which I agree is brilliant although I was slightly disappointed with iPhone integration even when paired with the BMW apps services.
As good as the big diesel was (470 miles on one tank, pushing on too) I would personally have to go with the 440i as well - excellent choice OP.
Hope yours gets sorted quickly so you can get back to open top motoring!

Glad you enjoyed - I actualy really like the interior, it certainly works far better than you might imagine!
Mind you, I would like it a lot more if I could actually sit in the bloody thing though! It went in to the dealer first thing Monday, and it is there still. Because it's a new engine variant/application in the 4 series, it's attracting a lot of attention from BMW UK, and they have analysed, analysed again, and then analysed some more for good measure. It is apparently going to be sorted, with a new crank-shaft sensor, tomorrow.
In the interim, I've been schlepping around in a brand new 7 series, which has surprised me massively.
I had expected a bigger, more sloppy, floaty version of my 6GC. This couldn't be further from the truth - this car is light years ahead. Steering, grip, handling, all far superior to the 6, and the ride is on a different planet. It feels like a much smaller car to drive - very precise, sure-footed, easy to place on the road. The tech inside is unreal, the interior sumptuous and stylish, and it's been wonderful on my journeys up and down the M11/A14. I am thoroughly impressed - the only thing that leaves me cold is the exterior (rather anonymous) styling - I feel it looks like a 3 or a 5 after a few weeks of only drinking beer and eating burgers.

Cheers for sharing your thoughts on the 7, the magazines that have been running them have been very complementary of it as well and I am a big fan too.
I love the interior on the 7, I would agree regards the styling although when I looked around one I thought it made the 6 seem dated both inside and out.

Ha, no, shame though, I was quite peckish on my way back to the dealer yesterday. The hand gesture controls (al la Wi) did work very well though, and I had another massage, which was nice, again...did you get to try out the casserole function?
Anyway, was a pleasant interlude, 440i now back on my drive, all present and correct, including that all important red lower dash.
Quick update - 440 working perfectly, loving it, so much fun!
As happened when I got the 6GC, I've somehow ended up changing the wife's car again too. My local dealer also has a Mini franchise on-site and my wife took her MCS Cabrio in for a service. The service department had organised a courtesy car for her, but the saleslady (who we had talked to previously about possibly changing up), interjected and insisted she take her month-old Cooper S Cabrio demo instead,
Suffice to say I am now proud owner of said (ex) demo. 1 month old, 1k on the clock, and every conceivable interior extra - very heavily loaded with nice heated leather, sat nav, cameras, upgraded sounds and lights, VDC, a few packs, adaptive LEDs, etc, etc. Got a very good deal.
Took it out yesterday when the roads had finally dried - total hoot, just as chuckable, more tourqey, faster, much more refined, indeed a cracking little thing.
Only issue is insurance - with this new version it's gone over the £200 mark
