My brother had a lovely XJ40 once, in a really beautiful red not the usual dark maroon/red with a lovely set of wheels, this colour
with these wheels, but the internals were painted same colour as car, in between the "spokes" with polished face
Can't remember why he sold it, was awesome then a year later he bought the X300, it was cheap and the garage he bought it off promised to paint bonnet, two doors, wing and front bumper.... made a real mess of the car, paid £120 to get it all blown over which was a shame as it was one of the very few 4.0 ones done by TWR, I know they didn't do many of them and seem to be lost to the sands of time these days, but by far the worst Jag I ever drove in terms of ride quality, because of the TWR suspension, it handled like a boat as you would expect, but the ride was crashy which spoiled it....but it did fly, then someone reversed into the rear quarter and pushed the wing up out of place sold it for £500
Bookmarking this, as I do have a soft spot for these old beasts
Lovely motor as you say. A few of us have done that with the lattice wheels, I painted the spoke gunmetal on mine...with these wheels, but the internals were painted same colour as car, in between the "spokes" with polished face

........ I'm still waiting to see an AJ16S fitting in an XJ40...
that'll be me then I've slightly cheated in the context of most peoples thoughts on this, in as much as I've transferred the outer panels of a '40 onto an XJR 300 thus retaining the powertrain benefits and the stiffer bodyshell.
I think as time is progressing and the mystique of ECU's is being overcome by the likes of Emerald aftermarket ECU's and people like Rich82 who have the practical and technical skills then we'll see more use of the XJR engine, having said that the value of the XJR300 is slowly rising as more are awakening to what a fantastic car they are.
Currently the project has stalled due to life getting in the way and the arrival of a rather nice Silver Shadow but my enthusiasm is undimmed and I'll be back onto it later this year with the intention that it becomes my daily driver.
Keen to see the mods etc you're making to the racer XJR500, its looking really good. What did you make of these comments on engine and suspension tuning?

Thought I'd posted the link for the '40 build before, but here it is again if you're interested

i was out at Snetterton on Saturday, with Michael and your old 40.........what a blast. After my inauguration at a wet Silverstone last month i did wonder if Michael had finally gone mad but the drying Snetterton soon had me giggling like a schoolboy. That thing should not go round corners like it does. must admit though that the refinement of my roadgoing version was clearly lacking
Hopefully back up there in April with Team Holt for the season opener, catch up with you there,
