Not updated this for a while!

I’ve had the engine in and out I don’t know how many times to get it sitting perfectly. Engine mounts are all welded on now. Just the front of the tunnel to finish off and can get the engine bay blasted again and in some primer!

Not been on here in a while. Here’s the most recent pic. Been busy with a few other things but hopefully I’ll be able to crack on with this very soon.

My plan to to totally change the back end now. I think I’ll be using an mx5 rear subframe instead of the current set up

Thanks guys.

Really needing to pull my finger out with it though. Quite often find myself going to the garage to work on it then end up procrastinating haha

Always got a soft spot for a Nova! Will need an IVA and Q plate though won’t it?

Yeah I guess so technically. Unsure what’ll happen if I don’t send it for a test though confused

It'll be spotted at an MOT and reported. Or stopped by the police, checked and impounded.

You might "get away with it" if just doing an engine swap but the changes are too massive to be un-noticeable.

Not updated this in a while (mostly due to me not doing very much with it)

Got the engine back in again today, still need to remove a little more metal from the bulkhead to get the transfer box to fit. Either that or pull the whole engine forward half an inch. Forgot to take pics.

I’ll probably just get the car sva tested to keep it all legal then. Don’t particularly want a q plate though.

Is it just Cav 4x4 running gear in a Nova shell? (Obviously with all your carbon bits etc - not read the thread yet).

I don't think if you want to be legal you can get away without it.

As soon as you cut into the chassis it becomes "radically altered" and loses the original registration, now if you're keeping enough parts it may retain an age appropriate reg but if you're using parts from other cars then its age becomes indeterminate and hence a Q.

https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-registration/radically-...

That said...DVLA are a law unto themselves and it is possible that it *doesn't* get a Q.

The issue you have is that it's *so* altered that it would be blindingly obvious at MOT and there have been various things about them "informing" on cars that aren't as registered.

Personally I really wouldn't have much of an issue with a Q on a car like this if it was mine. It is totally different to having a Q on a "standard" car.

Hi

Did you finish the project? Interested in getting something similar for my wife as she wants to relive the cars from her youth.

No, not finished. With this car being a gsi, I decided to put a new floor into it and bulkhead etc etc so it’s a standard car again. All the parts from this shell have went into another one.

My plan is to finish the standard car then get on with this one. Standard one is ready to be put back together now. Been a lot of work get the the new floor in etc etc
