First bend worked fine but the next two sheared at one of the holes so I had a rethink. Ended up bending sans holes then drilling them by hand. Not as neat as CNC but they are hidden so no problem :-)

There is a central spray bar still to be added. The holes have been angled so that the whole intercooler is covered.....hopefully.

The reason for the intercooler cooler is that I am intercooler space restricted. Although the intercooler core is the best out there (wasn't cheap) apart from F1 spec It is still a little small. This cooler should make up for this. The coolant will be nitrous as this is already installed on the car.

No, water makes a mess which is not appreciated on the drag strip. I am using Nitrous as it is already installed on the car so little additional hardware required.

Dimensions of intercooler dictated by available space rather than engine power requirements. Spray bar designed on CAD with holes (two rows) positioned (and drilled on the CNC Mill) so the whole of the intercooler is covered. Will use nitrous as that is already installed. Another part built not bought.

The evolution of the seats for the Elan. Standard seats are way too heavy :-)

Hmm, nitrous for the coolant! Did you get that idea from Ferrari?

No :-)

Nitrous is VERY cold when it turns into a gas and as I already have it on board it saves the weight of a separate CO2 bottle. Seems the logical thing to do.

Blimey, you must be desperate for things to do :-)

That's the plan. If it doesn't scare me stless then I haven't done a very good job.

Thanks

In the process of fabricating a carbon fibre door. So far I have managed to make the outer skin, which turned out pretty well, The dull marks are the result of repairs to the mould surface that weren't as glossy as the rest of it. Still flat and it will be painted anyway so not looking for a mirror finish.

Next task is to lay up the carcus. Started this yesterday and managed to complete the first layer of two. A total of 47 pieces make up the door and strengthening plates. The fun part will be joining these two parts together :-)

In parallel to the door I have been making a carbon fibre roof. Fitted an old Lenham hardtop and modified to suit. The resulting mould came off remarkably easily so the next task is to remedy any defects and lay up the carbon ready for cooking. A friend suggested the audio which I think fits nicely :-)

Door carcus came out of the mould pretty easily, mainly due to it being rather flimsy :-) I just may have overdone it this time. However, I will reserve judgement until it is married to the front skin. Torsionally it is pretty good, mainly due to the steps along the edges so I think it will work........fingers crossed because it weighs as close to nothing as is humanly possible, IMHO. So far, the two pieces add up to 909gms. Factor in joining material and glue, less a hole for hinge access but plus additional stiffening in hinge areas, I reckon is will end up around 1.1 - 1.2kg. Not to be sniffed at.

Grey marks caused by paint pulled off of the mould surface. Not a problem as it will be painted.
