Same colour as my 182. Great read! I have done nearly 60k in mine since I bought it and it's still going strong.

I have videos, here is one from Mallory. I will note a few things, the cars I was following had been a nuance all day, this was toward the end of the day and you can see the line appearing, so the track was quick. But they struggled to let me past. the first corner was borderline 4th, so kept changing between 3rd and 4th

at 2:36 onwards, following the black 172, you'll see black clouds of smoke and hear bits hitting my car, it was his brakes disintergrating! As we were limited on time before dusk, I really didn't want to back off!

The ending of the video is when it all went wrong too, causing the last few posts of problems

Lastly, enjoy my friends greeting at the end hehe

Top read - but that looks like a really frustrating trackday. It just looks to me like there are too many cars out on what appears to be quite a short/narrow track.

It was, very frustrating, we also seemed to be a bit quicker than most. Not necessarily FAST, but faster than others. I have a longer video of just me, and you can see from my overtakes how frustrated I get. It did make us laugh these guys with their rolled caged stickered up cars are getting overtaken by 2 blokes who turned up in a road car. They don't seem to understand if someone is faster, move!

If you think the 1st was bad, watch this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4t1ylQlF2P8

I end up following this prize cheb piece with his stupid overrun map (blue clio) from about 9:20 until 15:00 when he finally moves and lets me crack on. From 15:00 onwards, I have to put up with the shat-xo club in my way too. IN the end, you just start taking chances, otherwise there is no point

I remember an old boss mentioning that being an issue with his Ferrari 308 at Mallory.

It looks like your Clio has relatively stable handling, unlike the 172 you were following, which looked a bit lively! I've watched a few videos of these, and the handling balance seems to vary a lot between cars.

It's at the pinch point. With my track tyres (in the vid it's just on road tyres), it'd be 4th no problem.

It's had the track widened and lowered, but you still get a bit of body roll. Would like to stiffen it up more, but it's also used around down and is not comfortable!

One of the other clios was just messing about to an extent, it seemed worse than in the videos too.

I guess a lot depends on how fresh the suspension / bushes are and what tyres both cars are using .

I would of been flashing my lights like mad at the Clio in front don't know if that's OK on a track day! I must do a track day this year in my wee Twingo as it must be 4 years since I have done one.

Not allowed, but you're also meant to let people past! Would then be as bad as each other.

The chap is on Facebook and seems to think his car and him are amazing. He was also in the garage next to us talking rubbish, fettling with the car, with all of his gear, whilst me and my mate ate biscuits leaning on the bonnet then I jumped in the car and held me up.

The 2nd injector has made the car work again! Time to book some track time, can't wait.

More used to rallying than track days. If he was in the way on a rally and wouldn't move he would be getting a gentle tap in the bumper to say out the way. I think the track day I did had a flag system in place to let you know there was faster drivers behind.
Think I may venture to croft in the summer as its only local.

The video doesn't show (or maybe it wasn't on that go) but I was getting very close to people, to emphasise the point. The marshalls don't bother with the blue flag either, so you just got to throw it up the inside! problem is, it then looks like racing, which is also not allowed.

I would have just backed off, and/or done a lap of the pits to get out of the wally's way.
My issue was that, given how packed the track looked, I would have probably just ended up stuck behind someone else...

Who was the TDO, OP?

So basically the marshals weren't doing there Job properly and the Clio bloke was being a nob.
Also forgot to say top work on what you have done so far to the car.

great thread and really enjoyed the videos.

I've been getting an itch for a super budget track car and it's a toss up between one of these clios or an ep3 type r. Both cars seem to be at rock bottom prices right now, the civic costing slightly more though.

I'm going to check a few bottom of the barrel examples this weekend and I might take the plunge on something to thrash on track this summer

You're bang on, back off, and get stuck behind someone else. May as well just try to push through. It acutally works out a bit of fun, as long as you get past them in 1/2 or so.

It was a Javelin Trackday

Yep, totally not doing their job. Thanks!

I looked at a few, as well as minis, but the clio won, as the OE parts are so much cheaper, and mods are widely available. Mine was 'only' £1400, generally its cheap to run, apart from the last problem(s). Last year I only put upgrades on it, didn't service or spend a penny replacing parts.

It's almost been off the road for 4 months, but today is PASSED it's MOT! During all this, I'd let the MOT lapse, as it's been off the road. After the injector was fitted, I put it in for an MOT to see whats what, and it failed on ...

Lights, easy fix. The headlight washers were a pain, there are 2 pumps and 4 tubes, in some converluted manor, it made troubleshooting very painful. Not to mention it requires the wiper to come off, in the process of this, I managed to crack the windscreen mad 2 new headlight yets (£40 delivered) and they were working. Windscreen replacement claim to be put in.

The emmissions were a worry, I took the cat off and it looked fine, broke the clips in the process, an other £30... The clio FB group recommneded this, and seems to have worked its magic. Or was it getting it nice and hot before dropping off and waiting for the retest so it didn't cool whistle

In all this, the new (used) alternator gave up! So I bit the bullet and purchased a new one at the price of £189. I managed to do the whole job in about 2 hours, becoming a pro at it, 4th one I've done.

Anyway, off to book a trackday!

I've been driving about for a week and loving it, it really is a hoot to drive. Just throw it in and it sticks. No problems seem to have appeared the 100 or so miles I've done either. I was wanting to get some done before I booked anything.

I do now however need new 'daily' tyres. These are also the ones I'd use if it's wet, as the Federal 595's are shocking in the wet. Thinking Uniroyals rainsport3...

We used Yokohama AD08R, which found to be fairly decent in dry and wet
Also, Michelin Pilot Sport 3 are fairly decent.
But echo the above, Uniroyal Rainsport 3 are a very good wet tyre but if pushed in dry I think they would wear quite quickly.

Seems I've let this slip a little!

I did indeed get new tyres, Uniroyal rainsport 3's, as recommended by many people for the 182's. Annoyingly, I don't get on with them. The thread pattern seems to move too much on road, and when I done a track day, they were worringly bad. The car was so unsettled, it wasn't nice to drive.

Lets re-wind a little, when I had the tyres done, I got a good look at the brakes, I had DS2500's before, but they were done. So, on the day before my trackday I needed to source and fit new pads. All I could find was Brembo's from ECP. So I get them fitted, and heated out to the track day.

As I was running new rubber and pads, I went out on sighting laps and tried to bed everything in. Brake were no where near as sharp and the car wallowed in the corners, luckily it was dry, so I swapped to the 'semi's', with the kindness of a fellow trackday-er as I'd levy my tools at home by mistake!

The clio was back, with the 595RS-R's the car grips pretty well! But those brakes were doing 10 - 15 minutes max. Coming in with them smoking, a lad walked past saying "err, your brakes are on fire mate". hehe I'd done probably 60 minutes of track time, and took a look over the car, noticing my front pads were very low already! I figured I had 1 more stint, before I'd need to stop 'racing' and just drive home. Total time of pads: 75 minutes. The DS2500's lasted 4 1/2 trackdays of equally hard driving, goes to show you need to buy the right thing! That was 4th of June.

The last 6 weeks have been a bit crazy for me, so the 182 has taken a back seat. It needs new pads, and probably a bit of TLC in form of a wash and check over (fluids etc). I also plan on getting some ducts in for the brakes, as I think they are just cooking in the warmer weather. Then I'll book an other day, hopefully Mid August.

Side news, the Z4M passed it's MOT with flying colours and no advisories and it was the new style test. IT does however badly need new front discs. OEM are £350. Clios OEM fronts are £60!

Trying to cock a leg, reckon with a new ARB we'll be a tripod easy enough!
