If it's the box then thats a kick in the balls mate, sorry to hear it. At least if its sorted you've got both a recent engine and gearbox rebuild, so that'll be fine for years?

I'm going to scurry outside and offer my 996 some manner of peace token as its original on both...

So the gearbox is F'ed. Selector fork bolt has snapped of lots of debris in oil and found that the crown wheel and pinion have destroyed themselves hence locking up when reversing. So I need a replacement box and probably a new clutch and flywheel too.

FYI - with the current discount on euro car parts, a clutch kit is £215.

Sorry to hear...

Will a G96.01 fit as well??
https://teile.com/de/porsche-ersatzteile-onlinesho...

This one is sold unfortunately:
https://teile.com/de/porsche-ersatzteile-onlinesho...

Much less expensive at 1.8k € than the one on ebay.
Do contact them. Teile.com has a great costumer support. They might have something coming in...

Bit leggy possibly? The one I posted in the 996 thread in the Porsche forum has 30K Kms less .... I know if it was me I'd be shelling out the extra for a lower mileage

The one you posted is a G96.01from the 996.2 3.6 C2, as is the one I posted above.
Do they fit a 996.1 3.4 C2 without modification?? Possibly, but does anybody know for sure??

Blimey pretty bad luck ATM! But may be the porsche faith telling you to upgrade this topic to 993 C2 instead?? biggrin

I bet the annual costs are higher on them though...

You haven’t had much luck have you?

Hope it’s not too costly to fix.

Apparently is more economical to get a 2nd hand box - roughly 2.5k. My garage is also recommending a new clutch and flywheel. Not sure how I know if the clutch and fly are really necessary.

I think it depends on how much wear they clutch has had, it's out so it may be cheaper to change it now in the long run
