Even at these cold temps with a bit of snow coming down the grip is unbelievable. The car still has way more grip than I have cahoonas.

Err... wait until you get some proper snow... they are truly frightening!

Absolutely zero front end grip, even at walking pace... needs a blip of throttle or a bit of handbrake just to get the bloody thing to turn.

To be avoided laugh

Panic alert....

One of my friends just pointed out there are a few small white blobs in the oil filler neck.
I just had a red flashing light on the temp gauge moments after starting it up. Quick google said low on coolant. I've added some water. So I guess I am losing water. Hopefully I have a leak somewhere and its not HG or worse.

Keep your eye open for any pools of water under the car, could be front or rear, if left rear it could well be header tank (common failure), could be rads or water pump too, also common failures. Don't let the coolant run low, they don't like getting hot these engines.

I did notice a slug trail coming from the front where I had been parked.

Get the rads checked... Then get some mesh in the bumper to protect them!

In your profile it mentions a 996. What's the story with these carbon buckets?

Car was features in 911 & Porsche World a few years ago - should scan it (+5yrs old).

Is there an MOT or indy that you can visit somewhere near ? Drive a few miles (5-7 miles, so engine is up at the opt. temperature to show coolant activity) and go there, jack up the car. If you can heck everything underneath, any leak would easily show up and you would get a proper relief.

On the temperature side, I bought a lower temp thermostat from Hartech and that makes a difference as it makes the car work slightly cooler.

I used to have the aircon on in traffic to increase flow, but with this modification (cheap enough) the car worked flawlessly.

good idea to have a look at the radiators.

It's the next job I have lined up on mine for this year.

So I've done a fair amount of driving in this on Saturday and a couple of hours this morning while the roads were nice and empty. All of it has been at just above freezing and in rain, snow and / or consistently damp. I can now report that it's great. Ok the suspension setup is a bit hard so if you drive in and around city roads with speed bumps, pot holes and traffic lights and what not then it's a bit tiresome. Get out onto flowing country lanes and it's great fun. I've not been revving it so much recently and just leaving it in higher gears and trying to be braver carrying speed into corners. I'd say the car has 2 or 3 times more grip than my brain and balls can deal with and that's fine. I'm definitely the slowest part of the package. It's just hard to explain how well it goes round bends. But maybe that's only just the half of it. The other half is how much feedback there is. So what do I dislike, the seating position is a bit high for me at almost 6 foot 2. So I need different seats or the mounts on these altering. The steering wheel - it's a bit small in diameter and in rim thickness. I'd prefer a wheel which is bigger and thicker. My only regret is not trying one of these sooner.

Seat height is adjustable on these. Good to hear it's starting to make sense, I know I'll always be the slowest part of the package & I'm fine with that smile

You might want to try driving a car with a stock steering wheel before getting rid of that one. I switched to that type in my old car to give more space to my legs as it was a bit tight for room. I also fitted a steering wheel spacer to bring it back to a more comfortable position..

Nice work OP. Ruining my concentration but top stuff (19s too big imo but car otherwise a tasty base for something naughty).

Dom9 - I recall your 99, Black with some nice mods. No cash at the time but right up my alley. At least you can say you created and enjoyed something nice - netter the memories than nothing at all !

Hi DM, yeah - the 996 was lovely and it was certainly getting close to what I wanted. Reckon I must have sold at the very bottom of the market but that's the way the cookie crumbled and I needed the cash at the time (had moved country twice in 2.5yrs) and it was just running up storage bills. I'd still love to have it now but if I did; I probably wouldn't have my Clio V6 or my 106 XSi project on the go, which bring me huge enjoyment!

They look ok. I'm less interested in how the car looks and more interested in how it drives. I can't believe how much grip there is and that's with these not so great tyres. I'm toying with the idea of going down to some narrower 17 inch wheels. The car was originally spec'ed by Porsche with some very narrow 17 inch. Maybe less is more?
