Bit of cold weather isn't gonna stop me. I can say that now because I've finished the job. Well the regulator is on but I've left the door panel and membrane off for now in case I want to tweak the position. No video of it going up and down because I'm sure we all know what that looks like. Here is a pic of the old one. It looks very similarly made except it has no green plastic bits. They are white instead.

Time to go a drive now as I've missed the old girl.

I've sprung a leak here.

I got a few drips and then it stopped. It wasn't raining at the time. I get the feeling the water was trapped in there as it only started dripping once I started driving the car so it had the chance to move around. My car does not have a sunroof.

Do I need a windscreen place for that?

If it’s leaking there the screen itself probably has a leak.... which means it would need replacing. If you have screen cover I’d find a way to crack it and get it replaced.

Just took the battery out to charge it. Found some water sitting in the battery tray and could see some more below. Removed the battery tray completely. Then tried to clear the drains with zip ties but could only clear the driver side. Pass side too stubborn. Its right below a bracket which holds the battery cable so it's difficult to get good access. Removed most of the water with a sponge from the kitchen sink and called it a night.

Has anyone reading done their drains up front either side of the battery?

I used a knitting needle - they’re not fragile!

My interior was steaming up really badly which turned out to be caused by loads of crap in the scuttle blocking the drains. I ended up scooping it all out with my hands and running a Henry hoover around which was fairly gross then just running loads of water through it. Seems to have done the trick, no steaming up any more. I assume you've removed the covers to the left and right of the battery cover too? Access is fairly good then.

Should I be ashamed to admit I don't own a knitting needle?

Yes all 3 covers are off and also the battery tray. I think that gives access to the fuel pump in the petrol tank. I'll get some pics when there is some sunlight.

Like I say I managed to push the zip ties down the driver side drain. I didn't know if they have a curve inside which is why I thought to use something bendy. I don't have a hose here or a Henry.

My car has been misting up badly for a few months now. It started after I left it unused for a couple of months. So I'm confident this is a recent thing. If this cracks the misting up that will be good. I'm hopeful the leak from the sun visor might be related to all the moisture in the cabin but that's probably wishful thinking right?

My lazy starter is back too which is why I put the battery on charge. I'm wandering if the trapped water has affected the negative terminal, does it attach to the body where the water has been trapped?

A handy little tool learnt about during my Mx5 owning days, and I have used on every car since is a trombone cleaner.

Perfect for dislodging crap from drain whole.

I left the car to air over night while the battery was on charge. This morning I've given the area a clean and dry with tissue paper. It couldn't be any drier in there. I did see some water trapped in the pass side drain but the driver was clear. I gave the pass side a firmer push with a screwdriver and I think I've pushed the rubber thing through the hole. No idea if this is bad or how bad. Does anyone know what is under there. Is it just the tank?

Well done clearing it all out, I had the same thing a few months ago. Lots of steamed up interior and a wet carpet behind my driver's seat - discovered that area was flooded. I ended up just dislodging the little rubber grommets entirely so that water can just easily drain! Possibly a minor bodge, but it can always be put back to how it was and the area will never flood again - drying the carpets takes forever.

My carpet is dry. I'm hoping the moisture was just coming in through the cabin filter thing on pass side.

Is it Ok to disconnect the battery on these?

I always thought they needed power at all times, even when changing the battery?

How would you change a battery if that were the case? connect a 12V power supply? That would be a hell of palava! Disconnecting the battery is absolutely fine,I've done it several times. Only disadvantage is having to sort out the radio again.

ATM: I understand that the drains just empty over the fuel tank, not a big deal apparently.

Yeah it's fine. The car might forget some settings but there aren't many. Clock and window position is all I can think of.
