Car working well.

I've still not put the membrane and door card back on the driver door so that's to do. Any and all damp or misting up now definitely gone. I'm still not sure if I have the window positioned optimally but I guess it will just have to do as is. I cant seem to find any instructions on how to position it other than copying the old position.

The passenger door catch also seems to be working fine now too. No idea what was up with that. I'm trying it regularly now just so I can be sure it's not playing up. Although I never have any passengers in the car.

I'm still driving round with a massive AGM battery and jump leads in the boot just in case but so far no more lazy starts since I charged up the battery over night. Although I dont do any hot starts with my commuting as it's a short trip. I'll need to get the car properly hot and then try a hot start and see what happens.

Now I'm just enjoying the car working well and back to thinking about what jobs need doing. Perhaps I'll get a little list together. We all like a list right.

I've been thinking about getting out and about and looking for some good roads to enjoy the car. The boys over on boxa net seem to think there are some so I might try and tag along with some of their meet ups.

My other Porsche might be fixed soon and then I'll have the dilemma of which car to drive around. Perhaps I'll have to alternate. Flash, comfort and modern infotainment with a roof down option versus tatty, old, rock hard and retro.

I'm definitely gonna try the buckets soon. Then it really will be a daft commuting car.

Snap!

I used to commute in an ex-race car DC2 ITR to Glasgow - used to get a lot of strange looks from folk looking down from busses into the car. I used to just grin and wave!

Still pondering a Lightweight battery. So is the tank just outside the car and what's it made of? Wandering if I could remove battery tray altogether if using a Lightweight battery. Then I'd have nothing to stop water or anything else getting to the top of the tank. I've seen the battery mounted in the boot on some racey 996 and 986 but no idea what they do with original battery tray.

Shame about the damage, do you know where it happened?

If your scuttle drains are clear there is no reason for you to want to remove the battery tray?

Presumably outside the house. I only have on street parking and with 3 cars they spend a lot of time sat around on the street.

I just thought that as it's a big heavy lump of metal if it's only purpose is to hold the battery then it becomes redundant once the battery is relocated.

Possibly a bike but more likely just mindless vandalism. I prefer to think it's a bike pedal but it was facing the curb so it would have needed to be a bike riding down the pavement.

I have an annoying noise coming form the behind the dash. Sounds like a fan going round and its interfering with something which is making a clicking noise. I turned the main fan via the AC completely off and it carried on unchanged.

I had that in mine - never got round to it but suspect it’s the air vent recirculation valve or something, if that’s a thing! Only happened at startup to me IIRC but definitely the same sound as you describe. Maybe accessible from front scuttle?

Ordered some Millers 10w50 engine oil. Will do a diy oil change when it arrives. I've noticed they do a gearbox oil too so I might try that if I feel inspired.

Millers has arrived. I wasn't going to bother with the oil filter but my mates with 996 cars are giving me grief. Is the filter change really necessary. Oil last changed about 2 years ago or 4 - 5000 miles.

A new oil filter is buttons, and you might not even need to jack the car up to reach it if your slim or park on a couple of blocks - be mad not to. The filter is also where any debris collects so its your opportunity to check whats in there.
