Can I have those knackered old lights off you when you eventually cave in and get some decent ones/ambers?

I've got an HID project I want to do and I need some clear lights for it.

Car looks sweet apart from the cataracts.
I had someone whip up some HID for me using a set of ambers as the base but one of the internal clips got broke while the finished articles were on their way back to me so they've been sat doing nothing since.

Ticking noise is definitely happening less now. In fact I cant remember the last time it did it. I am basically using this as my daily driver now but sometimes I dont go anywhere for days on end. Also started using Millers 20w50 so not sure if that's helping.
Mine went when I switched from 0w40 mobil 1 to 10w40 millers.

I've finally found a 986 interesting enough to add in to the mix. Hopefully arriving any day now.

Ooh, specs and details! How do you expect that to sit in the mix with the other two?

Well I've not really thought too much about that. I know I like the drive of my 996 and I know I like the roof down action of the 981. Put the 2 together and you get a 986.

BUT

I dont fit in a 986. So it might need new seats and steering wheel and maybe pedals adjusting.

So lets see what happens.

I have thought that Pole Positions would be great in a 986. No idea if it is possible! Will you open a new thread (please)?

New thread - yes

I've recently found recling the standard seat feels a bit better in the lower back but it feels odd lying down so still getting used to it. I do have the extra reach of the mono steering wheel so this let's me lie further back. I have the swat as far back as it will go.

None of this would be possible in the 986 as I'd hit the bulk head sooner or with my seat closer to the wheel my knees will probably interfere with the wheel.

Anyone here experienced a 986 and anyone here also on the taller side too?

I'm struggling to understand what issues would be different between 986 and 996 - its the same cabin, with all the difference being behind the seats, even the seats and seat rails are interchangeable?

If you fit in the 996 with the (regular) seat fully back, surely you will fit in the Boxster?

I'd reccomend the same centre console delete as a starter, even at a measly 5ft 10 it gave me a lot of extra knee room.

My first Porsche was a 986. I loved that car even though I didnt really fit.

So the seat doesnt go as far back on the runner as a 996. I think it stops short. Even if you can get it all the way back you have to have the back rest straight up as it will hit the bulk head if you try to angle it down when all the way back. Also it will interfere with the roll bar if you have the base slightly higher. So to get the back rest angled you need to bring the base forward. This then means your knees start approaching the indicator stalks.

Basically if you are on the taller side it just doesnt work.

For contract the 997 I had after the 986 was almost too far from the pedals with the seat all the way back and angled slightly. So I believe the 9x7 pedals are a bit further inboard but not sure if thats true or not. Also the wheel can adjust up and down as well as in and out. Which helps with knee room. I've never driven a 987.

Thats a pain. For some reason I assumed you had the centre console delete (GT3 style) in the 911 but I flicked back to the start and at least initially it looks like you dont - I'd definitely start with that as its cheap, and frees up knee space.

I fit ok in the 996. Its the 986 I wont fit in.

I still want to try different seats in the 996. The standard seats are a bit rubbish.

Very nice indeed!
Trying not to be anal, but the colour is called „hell Elfenbein“. Or as you have translated correctly, light or pale ivory.

As wonderful as that car looks I'm not sure the cream would work with a 996. Would be interested to see if it does though!

I'm just thinking about a retro type colour which goes with the red leather. Otherwise I'm changing the red leather too.

Just picked up some 997 seats for this. Hopefully I'll fit them tomorrow.
