I don't normally like 'supercars' but that car does look lovely and something that you could use and drive without to much fanfare. I hope you use and enjoy it which you seem to want to do.

My kind of McLaren - classy paint and silver wheels looks so much better than a Crayola colour with fashion black wheels. A family member is looking at a 12c today, I do hope he buys it!

OP I like the 12C. I have a Maserati GTS MC Shift at the moment and am looking for a replacement car and I fancy something British as you say, How are you enjoying it? What warranty do you have and what so far are the negatives?

Very classy.

What's the mpg like? Not that that's the reason you bought it but I've heard these are surprisingly frugal.

I love it! I honestly can't think of another supercar with the 12's performance and usability for the price.

I bought my 12C pre-owned from an official dealership in December 2016 so its warranty expires in December 2017. Since I intend to take the 12C on a number of track days this year it requires pre-track inspection from an official centre to keep the warranty (c. £450).

12C plus and minus points to date:

Plus points: power; acceleration (when you're above 3,500 rpm the car is like a bloody rocket-ship); grip; braking (carbon discs); air brake; exceptional ride; gearbox; seating position; visibility; practicality (to a point); scissor doors; and, looks (subjective).

Minus points: engine note low down in the rev range; some turbo lag; IRIS 1.0 infotainment (I upgraded to IRIS 2.0 which has made a big difference but the radio is still poor); the car's superior ride comfort does give the sensation that you are floating somewhat over the road rather than keyed into it; and, I'm still trying to get the hand of the swipe mechanism for the doors!

Honestly, I've not checked the mpg! No better or worse than what you'd expect from a 600bhp supercar I'd guess. The on-board computer never seems to register the fuel tank full, however, which is a pain.

The wife's new car - an Audi TT - matches the colour combination of the 12C (dark blue and tan). How nerdy is that! nerd

Christ, the interior on that TT is far nicer than it has any right to be! Gorgeous.

Doom Blue has it's moments - not on the forecourt (where it's name was christened) obviously, but it can look really nice (esp with cream/coffee leathers)

I can't help thinking it won't make that 12C even harder to resell (something not easy at the best of times!?) but then maybe not because most of the other cars are in "look at me I'm a Youtuber" shades of awful?

I sat in those seats (in black but that's not relevant to the anecdote) for a while once - they do kinda leave a mark in your arse after a while because like most Audi seats, they're rock-fking-hard ;0

I like support but some cars I've been in were closer to 'concrete bench' than I'd expected ;0

Took the 12C to my storage centre today since I have to make way for another silly toy, which will arrive in a couple of weeks. The nice chaps at Universal Classic Car Storage will give it a proper clean, put in on trickle charge and pop the indoor car cover on. I'll then pick it up again early next month ready for its first trip to the Nurburgring with Circuit Days.

On the way I played with the active settings for the suspension "aero" and engine/gearbox "manual" both of which have three levels: N (normal), S (sport) and T (track). If you leave everything in normal the 12C rides better than a magic carpet. Put them all in track and all hell breaks loose!

I love the colour combination of this car works really well! Does it attract a lot of attention or does it slip under the radar?

Stunning car OP - thanks for sharing your experience! thumbup

I also like darker blues, especially with lighter interior colours! The only people who seem to like to tell us black with black is the best combination are usually trying to sell a tomb!

But enough of looks, the performance must be mind-bending - and you are doing track days with it. eek

Brave man - I hope you just keep enjoying it! driving

I'm not a regular poster (just a reader!) but couldn't help but comment on this. What a fantastic car, and this colour combination really reflects that. The blue just makes it look so classy and subtle, something I always feel the 12C is/was. Enjoy the experience and looking forward to hearing more about it in the coming months.

Really regret getting rid of mine now. It was the only supercar which gave such an exclusivity feel and I think that had to do with the British heritage and rarity on the roads...

Thanks for the complimentary messages fellow PH'ers biggrin

As said the 12C is now in storage for about a month after which I'll take it to the Nurburgring with Circuit Days - track day on 11th April. Other road trips / track days planned to date include: Destination Nurburgring on 2nd May, Goodwood on 22nd May and the Le Mans test day on 4th June.

Just been playing on the McLaren configurator and I think you might appreciate my choice of spec on the 720S... biggrin
