These are built to meet some slightly obscure French rules which somehow EU membership hasn't managed to kill off yet. The engine comes from a mini-digger (yes, seriously) and is as staggeringly unrefined and nasty as you would imagine hehe
Aha! Ta for the info biggrin

No, those have broadly died a death thankfully. Apparently if someone was banned for drink-driving they'd buy a VSP (voiture sans permis) until they got their license back. The VSP would then be handed around the regulars in the bar as and when each of them was caught driving home in their Renault 4 after a few too many glasses of pineau. It's an extremely French type of law!

These are 'quadricycles' and can be driven on some kind of motorbike license (à la Reliant Robin). They're exempt from normal car safety and emissions rules so are not only noisy and badly built they're also lethal if crashed.
Worrying hehe

So I walked into Wimbledon Chase this morning for a coffee and walked past this car showroom. And saw this; https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C864262

It's not an acty of course but couldn't help myself - stopped, had a chat with the owner of the business and I really liked it! Sadly I don't have the money or inclination for the conversation I'd have to have with the wife if I bought. 'You bought a miniature fire engine, what sort of muppet are you?' We need a new kitchen/car/house painting/sofas etc etc etc!! But you went a bought a effing fire engine!!'

The pump has been removed but various accessories do come with it. Apparently the tannoy is unbelievably loud and good fun and there's two sirens, a UK one and a US one.

Only done 4,000miles too! Sorry for hijacking this thread.
Glorious thumbup

Absolutely love this. Those wheels just work for me, don't change them.

Is there any way to extract more power out of the existing engine? maybe achieve.....50bhp?!

Keep up the good work
A sail, maybe wink

Rather than rip the thing to bits and bike engine it, I did make some enquiries about changing the final drive as believe it or not, it pulls rather well even uphill with two adults sat in the front. It would just be nice to hit 60 (ish). Apparently it can be done. We shall have to see what happens over Winter...

Love this little thing!

On the subject of performance mods, how would the lump respond to a small NOS kit? obviously wont do anything for high way cruises, but seems like a quick and easy way to get some extra pep pulling away from the lights.
I honestly think a turbo or NOS would be utterly wasted on it. It's quite quick off the line and you are in fourth gear and pulling up to the top speed in absolutely no time!

Not a happy ending. It brought smiles to so many faces and ended up making mine look rather miserable...

It was at our farm unit lockup for a few days waiting on tyres from a local mobile friend and the building went up.

We have lost everything. From all the tools and ramps etc I would ever need, to a solitary socket set worth a tenner in a single night.

Friends also lost a great deal.

I never did say thank you for the comments. Not sure how it happened. Could have been something in one of the units, or could have been anything from kids, to people having ongoing disputes. I hope I never find out to be honest.

It's amazing what heat can do. Alloy wheels were just puddles on the floor (picture the scenes from Terminator 2) and other items such as drills etc, well, there was nothing left but some wire poking from what appeared to be mangled motors. One good thing was that we dug through all the debris and found the keys to a few cars I had stored away from the units. They must use cheaper metal these days as all mine survived, but my friends newer Mondeo keys could not be found.

Oh and I also lost my original Feu Orange air freshener and several other 'vintage' items!

It has been a while since this happened, yet I still keep thinking of things I lost.

One of the last snaps I took just before the fire, ended up being at much the same angle as the last one I took after the fire. It was taken away by the insurance company not long after.

Poor old girl...
