That’s what I’m hoping for. I dearly love an E90 M3 because that engine is so special and is fabulous mated to the DCT gearbox. I don’t fancy running one as a daily; it’s be useless for chucking mountain bikes in (I imagine the 140 will be a bit of a pain after 4 years in a vRS) and will cost a fortune on my 60 mile round trip to the office three days a week. I borrowed a 140 for 48 hours and loved it...the acceleration the first time I booted it really made me laugh too.
If you can amend your spec at all, for £170ish the 30/40/30 split rear seats and the cargo net are a good shout if you're going to chuck mountain bikes in the back. with the rear seat split 3 ways you get extra anchor points in the headliner for the a mesh divider for the back when the seats are down, and theres luggage points to strap the bike frames down to.D4MJT said:

Too late to tweak it now; it’s all been locked down already! Looks like they’re churning the last few out pretty sharpish. I believe that you can’t factory order beyond June now ready for the new one to be launched in September. Some cracking deals about on these at the mo though.SpunkyGlory said:
I am very tempted by one of these, given some of the offers around at the moment.
I'd be swapping out of a 5.0 Mustang so it would be quite a chance - am I mad? I'm going to test drive one this weekend if possible.
A Mustang, C63 or Monaro were on my list before getting my M140. All of the above will give you a much more 'special' experience than the M140. It's a very good compromise car, very quick when you need it, practical and surprising MPG when driven carefully but I can't think of it as 'special'.I'd be swapping out of a 5.0 Mustang so it would be quite a chance - am I mad? Great thread, some very insightful contributions.
I’ve lurked on PH for years without signing up, but thought I’d do the right thing having been a petrol head for the past 28 years.
I took delivery of my brand new car last week, having recently sold my Golf R.
Here it is.
Coming from a Golf R, I’m looking to forward to seeing the differences. I was already sold on the test drive though, as I had been prior on the R.
I quite like this review from Car Magazine too.

Please consider a thread of your own to compare experiences of the R v 140i, I think many of us would be intrigued by two seemingly comparable (yet I assume quite different) cars. I put PS4 on ours, still had the original MPSS on, only changed them as they were cracking.
Sidewalls are notably softer, so a bit unnerving at higher speed.
Much quieter
Nicer ride
Not as good in the dry though.
Can't say I noticed much difference in the wet as I always take it easy anyway if it's wet.
I'd go back to MPSS if I had to again. MP4 are cheaper for a reason.

Horses for courses, but I'm the opposite to be honest. Perhaps I'm too ham fisted in the wet but I found the MPSS useless. I find the MPS4 much better all round, I'll be happily sticking them on again. Longevity seems as good as the MPSS.Sidewalls are notably softer, so a bit unnerving at higher speed.

To update, I still have this, I still love it, I shall update it properly soon. Still my favourite car I've ever owned.
116 badge is a no for me.
Mis badging a car when it’s really something special I sort of get, but not on this.
I keep getting tempted by these as they can now be had for good money. Seems to be a lot of ex PCP cars around with serious specs on them, never get why people go mad on a car and then hand it back after 3 years but works well for tight people like me!

The MPSS are very good in the dry but I’m not a fan in the wet. I’ll be popping MPS4’s on as soon as mine are dead. To update, I still have this, I still love it, I shall update it properly soon. Still my favourite car I've ever owned.
I’m enjoying mine; it’s pretty economical when driven sensibly, sounds OK to me despite the PPF and is more than quick enough when you want it to be.
I recently swapped from MPSS to the new Goodyear Eagle Asymmetric 5s in 94Y XL all round.
Not as good as the MPSS in the dry, but like the MPS4 quieter and vastly better in the wet.
I think the sidewall on the Eagles is a bit firmer than either of the Michellins, because front end "feel" seems better than on the MPSS (though that might be the difference between a 92 and 94 at the front).
Overall I really rate them so far. A good bit cheaper than the MPSS too, I paid ~£420 for a set of 4.

That’s a good price for four tyres. Not as good as the MPSS in the dry, but like the MPS4 quieter and vastly better in the wet.

I'm looking at maybe a secondhand M140i, originally having considered an Audi S3 to replace my elderly A3 2.0TFSI DSG. I was wondering why the 140i is noticeably cheaper than the S3 (and Golf R) secondhand?
My researches suggest £25k will get me a '68' 140i, a '67' Golf R or a '66' S3.
Or a '17' M140i is around £21k, Golf R round £24k and S3 £26k.
Is the M140i a bargain or have I missed something?

Main reason is that BMW discounted the arse out them. I got a new fully loaded 5dr M140i shadow edition auto with all the trimmings. Pro nav heated seats folding mirrors reversing camera etc. £27k on the nose. Offered 6mths later £21k. The dealer said that’s why the offers are so low. Needless to say I sold it privately for £25k.
