Back in the day the common upgrade to 15" wheels was either Ronal (I had 16" Ronal's) or BBS. I certainly don't remember a Pirelli P slot being available as a 15" wheel.
There were 15" available but were really quite rare and very sought after back in the 90's

Love the image! On the subject of the P-slots, a quick Google is your friend - plenty of knowledge out there on the web. Every decent set I found (quite a few on Ebay DE) were upwards of £500, which was a barrier for me.

Did some digging about my MK2 GTI, it was originally supplied to a company as the directors car. They have contacted him for me and he remembers the car and also remembers that it had "P" wheels from factory.

I had some on my Mk1 back in the late '90's.

Amazing how huge the 15” look. These days it’d take 19-20” to look that big under the arches of a new hot hatch!

I remember back in about 1989 swapping my wife’s 1983 Mk 1 Campaign for a 1986 Mk 2 and thinking what a quantum leap it was. the Mk 2 was so much better to drive. However it’s the Mk 1 that’s now worth the money.

Sorry about all the Golf bearding, I’m now 53 and on Golf number 16, so I know a little bit about them!

No worries I'm enjoying it! I'm 25 and on my 4th Golf, 3rd GTI. I'll keep buying them too, fantastic cars. Its amazing how much my MK7.5 shares with the MK2!

I had a J reg Tornado Red 5dr 8v on the BBS wheels with the rainbow interior. I loved that car, but nearly 20 years ago when I was in my early 20's I modified it far too much and look back in horror at what I did.

I have a 67 plate Golf GTI now and the DNA is visible.

The VW Community never ceases to amaze me. One post asking if anyone knew where I could source an original set of steels for my car, and within 10 minutes I had a chap offering me 2 sets for free! Turns out he also owns this.

It would look good with steel rims, your car would have been supplied with them as standard, the five door cars came with P slots.

Any idea what my car would have been supplied with as standard? It's an '87 3 door 16v. It's got 15" Borbet wheels at the mo, but I'm thinking about changing to OEM, although I do like the look of a 5 stud conversion and 15" bottle top wheels...

When's the next update on the body work?!

Always nice to see the helpful VW community alive and well! Looks good in that colour (LA7U?) - I had a Mk2 GTD in the same hue, and spend years getting it back to its original glory.

Looks like it's coming along nicely OP - the tape player just sets the interior off nicely - although I know what you mean about period Blaupunkt's going for stupid money....

Good luck with the resto, I'll keep an eye on this thread...

Cheers,
Tom

Yes P Slots were option only on the 3 door, and the only option mine had ticked from factory (From what I can work out) was the Metallic paint! Cant wait to get them on.

So far this week VW Heritage managed to send a package to Glasgow, and then back to my paint guy. The arches they sent were crap anywhere, so theyre going back. Today they delivered the windscreen.... smashed. So now it'll be at least Monday before the cars done. To add insult to injury, I'm driving to Norfolk tomorrow to UK MK2 Spares to pick up a salvage gutter trim, nightmare part to get and of course mines buggered on one side! Too awkward and liable to snap to be posted, so a 6-8hour round trip it is!

The things I do for old cars.

I feel your pain. Currently have a mk2 golf rebuild on here thats gone far beyond the realms of reason and sanity. I hope they dont uncover anything too scary. Good to see another mk2 owner on here.
