Thanks for sharing , what an epic journey out to the ring and back with such a beautiful machine.
Cheers for reading and thanks for the kind words!SturdyHSV said:
Brilliant stuff, glad to see the car made it there and back and soaked up the abuse, although not surprised it did, you've been very thorough from start to finish
Cheers and not as glad as me it does get checked over and awful lot so i was fairly confident but in the two times i've not made it home from a drive out under 2002 power, its been down to unforeseen issues so there was always that bit of anxiety!Bobberoo said:
Loved reading that, brings back great memories of my visit there in 2015, and makes me more determined to go back with my car!!
I've not been since 2019 (or 2018, cant quite remember now) and approaching the place still felt just as awesome. I hope you manage to get back out soon!Electric Blue said:
Still my favourite car on PH - fantastic!
Thanks for the high praise, there's some awesome stuff on here so appreciate that even more!SlimJim16v said:
Though it looks cleaner without, if you're going to be hooning around the Nurburgring, have you considered a turbo spoiler?
I've thought about one in the past but think they look odd on a 2002 with round rear lights, sometimes i like them and sometimes not I cant imagine they make much difference in terms of performance, especially on something shaped like a brick haha_dobbo_ said:
Looks like an epic 'ring trip, well done, really great photos too!
Cheers, it really was a good time, work is a bit of a struggle this week!Polly Grigora said:

Great car
Out of interest… what does it owe you now?
Cheers matey and i really wouldnt know, i've never kept track of spends on it thankfully. Out of interest… what does it owe you now?
I would only ever do that if i was doing a car for profit and i think i would definitely fail to make any money at that this car is certainly for the love of it all, so it'll cost what it costs i guess
Nothing too much to report since the last update, just a good few hundred more miles on my favorite roads. In all honestly the cost of 99 has made me think twice about taking it out so much, i've probably done half the trips out i normally would've done and instead i've been getting out on my mountain bike more (not such a bad thing!)
Instead of drives out i've also been a bit more social instead and have attended a couple of local retro/ classic meets. There is a great pop up one only 15 minutes from my house and all sorts turns up. Im not really marque/ era/ country bias so i really do enjoy having a look around this meet! I'm useless at grabbing pictures whilst im there but a few kind souls are much better at this and upload them to the meet Facebook page:

My friend also got his on the road too, i've helped out a little bit on this one and the engine builders i help out at did the engine, including their own custom self designed forged pistons. It goes really well!

On the way back from one of these meets i was getting a really strong fuel smell, it took awhile to find but the fuel rail had a pin hole in it that was squirting a jet of fuel out under pressure, not good! It turns out its my fault for the way i've mounted the fuel pressure regulator on the end of the rail, even though its super light and under no obvious stress, apparently it is.
Its on the back side of the rail in this picture and impossible to see unless pressurised:

You can see where its taken the lacquer off my carbon backplate:

Quick job to get it apart, i also had the alternator off to check for a small oil leak that has started from behind it, it appears it may be from the front cover interface and something i will just monitor for now!

I had a good swing on the glued in AN fitting on the section of rail that had failed and it opened up a crack right around it!

I got a new section from Jenvey and got it back together quick sharp. I also got the brackets and fittings to remote mount the fuel pressure regulator to stop this happening again but i was against it time-wise so have fitted it the same again and will sort that over winter.
I took the lacquer off the rest of the baseplate for now too and got it all back together:

I must admit i dont tend to run the airbox all that much any more, i bought an open foam filter that sits on that back plate to remind myself of the noise it can make when not muffled down and i cant not have that in my life at the moment! I'll of course keep the airbox, i love the look and im sure once the ringing ears come back ill swap it back over

The fella with the SVJ, we only got speaking through giving each other a wave or nod whilst out driving, normally seen in a black GT2RS that comes out of nowhere hes got some very nice cars and uses them all and lets others experience them too. I thought back one evening and many people i now call friends i have met in a similar fashion, funny old things these metal boxes!
An event was also scheduled for the end of last month that meant i needed to try and tidy the garage up. We've been in the house 6 years this December and i bought this car soon afterwards. I never really found the time to tidy up properly in between doing bits on this car, i just wanted the job at hand done and that was that. It was all getting to a bit of a head, it's got quite a bit of space but typically i found myself not being able to navigate around it like i should and in hand with the end of month appointment, enough was enough!
I spent a full day tidying it up and binned so much stuff! The end result, for me, was spectacular! So much new found room!

We'd recently got new camping chairs and can now have that out as a comfortable pondering seat, it really is just such a better place to be!

My son is approaching 2 years old now and seems to be rather attached to the 2002, having cleared the garage of many dangers and swarf etc. he can now free roam a little more, so its a win win. He loves making use of the inbuilt climbing frame

Good to see another update from you Scott and great to see the old girl is still being enjoyed in rude health!
Looking forward to seeing the PH video too, can't wait to hopefully hear some of that induction/exhaust noise with the M10 singing away
Cheers buddy, i've been using it as daily transport this week and dont think i've been able to get it near the limiter more than once or twice! It's been quite well behaved in this heat and in traffic.Looking forward to seeing the PH video too, can't wait to hopefully hear some of that induction/exhaust noise with the M10 singing away
Harry the videographer got some really good external shots of it going fairly well flat out so im the same, cant wait to see all of that!

I'd seen that too, following that build. Luckily for me there's nothing hot down that side!
