Well where to start...... A few of you will have read my other readers ride I had been driving round in a ignis 1.3gl. It was a £300 car that was meant to last a couple of months. It lasted 18 months/22k miles before the car became uneconomical to repair and thus was stripped and scrapped.

The replacement was between a impreza wrx estate or a vauxhall astra h estate in Sri 2.0 turbo guise.

By chance I noticed a ignis sport locally one night. Went for a nosey as sad as it sounds I quite enjoyed the ignis 1.3gl. Price was right, deal was done.

Gave the car a check over and it needed a new track rod end

The wheel bearing also had slight play but hub looked really rusty, so second hand hub was bought and ive put a new bearing into that just need to swap over the hub

More to come shortly

Picture of hub ready to have bearing knocked in.

I bought the car running rough and wanted a few bits refitting properly (Moston which came off my gl before I scrapped it)

The rough running was traced to a maf blank missing

The car had aftermarket gauges fitted, scotch lock heaven, wires everywhere.

I got the wiring to a position where I'm happy it's not going to burst into flames. Wiring Repair is on the to do list.

Ive had the car around 6 weeks now and done afew bits to it, oil and filter change was first on the cards

Magnetic sump plug was fitted hopefully will have nothing attached to it come next oil change
Earth lead seen better days

I'm slowly tidying up the bodywork but it's last on the list tbh. Replaced the black grille for astandard silver one, removed blacked out rear lights, replaced side repeaters with standard orange ones, rear wiper removed and blanked

I've also bought some different wheels. Im not into the ones on the car. So some team dynamic 1.2s have been bought just waiting for a refurb and new tyres

Car is still used everyday to carry all sorts

Pic of the car. I think it sits quite well

Also working on the lights at the minute. The standard light output is piss poor. Previous owner has fitted hid kit which is bright but the beam pattern is scattered all over the place.

So I've modified a set of standard lights and converted to run xenon projectors using h1 bulbs instead of h4. It's not quite finished yet but it's looking like it will be plug and play wiring wise.

I've been playing with the suspension stiffness for a few weeks now and settled on a setting I'm happy with

Had one of these, loved it. Looks quite a nice example after the changes you've made. These and the later Swift Sport are great cars, easy to work on, etc.

Front fogs were a desirable option. I liked the wheels it came on too. Nothing wrong with the TD however...

Hi thanks for positive comments.

It's an absolute riot to drive like mentioned above revvy Japanese twin cam, light weight and close ratio box it can certainly motor on if needed

There's logic behind changing the wheels to the team dynamics. The wheels on it are fox racing ms06 although they look very similar to the rota wheels. They are 6.5j wide with 5mm spacers and purple wheel nuts. They also weigh a fair bit.
The switch to td 1.2s will see 7j wide so I'll lose the spacers and swap the wheel nuts for some black ones. Hopeful of saving a few kgs at each corner which is always a bonus. Wheels will be going gloss black

Yeah the suzuki optional front fogs are slight quite desirable but I'm on the lookout for standard bumper tbh still undecided yet

Managed to swap the hub over today with the new bearing fitted. Everything went well apart from the abs sensor. Mine was badly rusted in. So I took a chance and left the sensor in the hub I bought. Abs light is now on. Im scanning late tonight but pretty much certain it's to do with the sensor. Ive got nothing to lose now so going to try get my old sensor out.

I have also ordered genuine rack ends from suzuki at just under £100 although will get 12% off that. Suspension arm will be ordered this weekend.

Stripped, cleaned and greased front brakes, just need to lose the yellow paint off the calipers now.

No pictures unfortunately as I was flat out.

Rackends arrived from suzuki today all £82 worth of them!

Also managed to get my abs sensor out of my old hub. Arm will ordered for this weekend so I can pick it up when I'm near my parents house at weekend.

Once all these bits are fitted to the car. I'll do the tracking at my works so it drives straight and then do a final 4 wheel alignment when the new wheels and tyres are on.

Final plan in near future will be a swift sport decat 4 branch manifold and custom exhaust system

Right first off no pictures unfortunately as been flat out getting everything done.

So replaced both rack ends, nearside track rod end, swapped over my new offside track rod end, nearside suspension arm, swapped abs sensor over and reset tracking.

Everything went as well as can be expected only had to get the gas axe out twice on the rack end lock nuts.
Found nearside driveshaft nut loose, offside arb bush loose and had to drill out several snapped split pins so I could put split pins in the castle nuts.

Tracking was 1.5 degrees toeing out reset to 0 for now until new wheels and tyres go on. Then lazer alignment will be done.
Driving like a totally different car now. Monday is rear suspension/brake check, clean and grease day.
Few aftermarket part numbers for anyone who finds them useful.
Starline suspension arm 295mm ct460064- this comes with a lifetime warranty from euro car parts how good it'll be time will tell.
Delphi track rod end ta2484
Blueprint front wheel bearing adk88225
All the aftermarket parts come marked as vauxhall agila.

Had a quote from jp exhausts in Macclesfield for custom manifold back exhaust at £600+vat. Little steep but there work is second to none and there booking 2 months in advance which explains it all. That's gone on the back burner probably till the new year now

Sorry for no pics and a big essay few like im in a good place now maintenance wise

Well due for a update!
Gave the car a proper seat out clean

I'm not one for cleaning but I give it a wash as often as I can it's far from perfect

Went up to have a few dents and creases removed which have gathered over the years

The rattling/chattering returned traced it to a worn bush inside the steering rack. Replaced that last week only mishap was the squib ring snapped. New one should be arriving this week along with various clips for spares and a replacement external door handle

Just waiting to replace squib ring and put my new wheels on then it can go for a 4 wheel alignment which brings us onto the next bit....

Ready to fit hopefully on Friday.

I've also got a low mileage rear gearbox mount to go on as mine has some movement and powerflex bushes for the front Arb.

Got two bumpers which should be ready in 2 weeks to fit aswell. Coming along nicely.

This looks great! I was considering one for a while as they are ridiculous fun for the money but settled on its younger brother the swift sport instead. Still great fun!

Thanks for taking the time to view and comment.
Yes absolute riot to drive. Picked mine up for some cheap daily fun couple months back.
Ended up chucking a load of money at it to get the steering and suspension in tip top condition. Now the wheels are on finally feels like I'm making it my own

Another Swift Sport owner here. I enjoyed the previous thread and I like this one too!
Low budget, interesting car, good skills, a bit of TLC and tinkering - what's not to like? :-)

Ok, so the repair and upgrade costs might have exceeded the purchase, but it's still a fun car for very little outlay.

I'm not doing too bad budget wise the maintenance and tinkering are mainly being funded by sales of the bits already fitted to the car when bought.

It's a laugh a minute. Perfect for my commute at the min. £40 vpower fuel gets me 350miles approx, costs peanuts to tax and insure.

The only downside is maintenance a lot of items are suzuki only at great expense and minimum 5 day delivery. As a result a lot are neglected and are now being broken. I'm hoping the better ones will shoot up in value eventually as all the dogs are weeded out and broken up for parts to keep the better ones going.
