Predictably the near side front drop link was seized into the hub I had to remove the whole lot and give it some good old heat and beat to get it out.

When removing the bolt that secures the brake pipe it snapped in the hub so I had to drill and tap a new thread into it.

All done and fitted. Just need to set them up and get an alignment now.

The water temperature sensor was acting up before I took it to the dyno, it did it again the next day when I started up the car from cold. It is reading fine and suddenly would drop out for a second and then come back. I'd assumed it was wiring as every issue like this ends up being traced back to wiring. In this case it was actually the sensor that was failing. The sensor is buried down at the back of the engine and it's not easily accessible, it proved to be a pain in the arse to get out, first the plastic clip holding it in snapped and I had to fight to get the remaining bits out, then the sensor wouldn't pull out, had to drill a hole into it and put a screw in, then hold that with mole grips an then use a crowbar to lever it up.

Got the seats in, had to make up brackets and weld them on.

I set the height on the suspension.

Turns out I was a bit ambitious with the suspension height, the car scraped when getting it back into my garage and ripped a hole in a charge cooler hose.

Seats look ace! Hope they feel as good as they look for driving position etc.

Sorry about the charge cooler hoses, but now looking at them, they are a fairly small diameter? By the time you have the pump, the piping to and from the front, the charge cooler, the radiator, are you getting enough flow through the cooler? Just you mentioned the charge cooler was not doing enough cooling?

Any way to measure flow rate in a sealed system? Like a weir cup would be used out of a tap?

Also will that piping get softer when the water gets hotter?

I am not a person that knows much about flow rates, heat transfers, kilo joules of heat etc!

The piping is 19mm ID, that's the size I see on OEM systems and its the size the pumps and cores tend to be. The pipe work does go soft but I don't use this inside the engine bay, use traditional black water hoses there. That pipe work is what's sold on the chargecooler.co.uk website so figured it's up to the job. I like it because it's clear so you can see any air bubbles (and there are always loads to work out). It stains so only useful the first time you fill the system up, those pipes in the picture are empty.

If anyone has some suggestions on different hose to use I'd like to know. A reel of proper black coolant hose is heavy, bulky for the ID and stiff.

I think the problem with the charge cooler on the dyno was probably air in the system.

I'm happy with the seats although not driven it yet. They look good in the car.

Thank you for the reply!

I am most certainly not criticizing, I am trying to think of ways as to why it is not working as effectively as you believe it should be. Glad to hear it could have been an air bubble causing you grief, air is fixable fairly easily.

Sorry, I do not know of any alternatives, and if chargecooler.co.uk recommend those pipes then I would support that! - I was just curious if that pipework were to get hot they might sag down and start dragging along the road.

I wanted to upgrade the brakes. I did buy a K-Sport 8 pot brake kit that came up locally at a good price. I bought it ages ago but it was for a Volvo C30 T5, K-Sport wouldn't sell me brackets and bells to suit my car even though they do a kit for my car. i did consider modifying it all but decided not to as it was a complete kit and thought better to sell it on and go a different route.

I'd been made aware of a bolt on solution to upgrade the discs to 338mm from the 315mm used on a Boxster S. Mine isn't an S, my discs are 298mm. To use the kit i'd need some Boxster S calipers as they are larger. I bought a pair a pair of calipers, they are from a 996 but the same as a Boxster S. They are quite expensive compared to similar size Brembo 4 pots, reason being is there are a few upgrade kits made for other cars that use these so they are in high demand. They need a lick of paint.

This is a screenshot of the website I bought the brake kit from. Looks good doesn't it? It did say at the bottom of the description the picture may vary from the actual kit. They weren't joking.

The brake kit turned up and i'm not impressed with it. Plenty of things i'm not happy about but my biggest issue is the fact the rear face of the disc is narrower than the brake pad, it over hangs by 8mm. I can't work out why he based the kit around these discs. I don't think this is acceptable.

I've raised this issue and have been told I can return it for a 15% re-stocking fee which works out about £90 once I take the hit on postage both ways. I think this is a pisstake. Interestingly, before I paid for the kit I asked him about the lack of a paypal option on the website, he told me it was because he has problems with paypal, I can see why now.

I wish I'd kept the K-Sport 8 pots and made them fit, i'd have done a better job of it i'm sure. I'm not paying the 15% re-stocking fee on principle. I need brakes as what's on the front currently it isn't going to pass the next MOT so I guess i'll fit them because i'm now stuck with them and will look for something else better in the future.

Nasty.

Get a two part set from Hi Spec? https://www.hispecmotorsport.co.uk/rotors2.html they'd have to be 335mm is the only downside but they already have the Boxster listed for the big brake kit so it would be reasonably straight forwards.

You'd have to contact them though as the website is a bit st and they don't list the "complete" disks (ie bell and rotor) separately to the "kits ".

Generic discs by the look of, to fit cars with 4, 5 or 6 studs. I doubt it covers every different PCD though!

They are from a Landcruiser and re-drilled to suit. Not pretty but I assumed they'd look like that although some of the hole spacing looks dodgy where they overlap the original holes.

I've been made aware of my consumer rights on another forum, should be able to send them back and not get charged the re-stocking fee by saying they are faulty/not fit for purpose. Are we all agreed a brake upgrade that leaves you with an 8mm brake pad overlap and less contact area than standard is not fit for purpose?

I paid by debit card so I can the company kicking up a stink, Google search shows others having had issues with them. I can see me having to go the small claims route.

I would have thought you could return for a full refund within 14 days under the Distance Selling regulations (not 85% refund), without needing to give a reason (so not getting into arguments about whether it's good enough).

I'd go not fit for purpose.
The drilling of the holes, looks like a failure point to me.
Pad overhang another big cause for concern, as the pad wears the unused part will act on the inner surface.

In the past I've had an engineers report done on suspect parts, that has helped get matters sorted.
Hopefully in your case you wont need to, just another option should you need it.

Apparently it's a custom made brake kit made to order, I know his conversion parts were on the shelf and ready to go. With the discs there was a choice of colours and plain, drilled, grooved, c-hooks, etc, there was no standard option, you picked what you wanted, there was an extra charge on the C-hook discs I went for.

Anyone know where I stand with that? Is it his get out clause?

If it's made to order or not, it still needs to be fit for purpose.
Which that isn't.

Absolutely!! That ‘kit’ is feckin useless to say the least and no ways is it fit for purpose. No ways would I be happy with that much pad overhang, I wonder if any MOT testers could comment on what they would think when testing a car and the pads were down to say 40% with a massive overhang like that ?

Great project which I’ve been following from the start, don’t let this muppet bamboozle you.

As above, not fit for purpose.

The whole at about 10 o'clock looks seriously oval, and others are really close.

Also, if it was made for you, why has he drilled for 6 studs if your car is a five stud wheel?

I'm glad everyone agrees it's not acceptable.

It wasn't a custom commision, just something anyone can buy off his website, you need to selected the discs you want on his drop down menu.

His website says "Also, this brake kit is custom made to order, so may have a leadtime of approximately 7-10 working days."
https://freakyparts.co.uk/collections/porsche-boxs...

On his terms and conditions it says this

In accordance with the provisions of the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000, you have the right to withdraw from this transaction. Details of your right to withdraw can be found in Clause 9 below.  PLEASE NOTE THAT THE RIGHT TO WITHDRAW FROM THE CONTRACT DOES NOT APPLY IN RESPECT OF ANY AUDIO OR VIDEO RECORDINGS, COMPUTER SOFTWARE WHICH HAVE BEEN OPENED BY YOU, AND CUSTOM PARTS MANUFACTURED TO YOUR SPECIFICATIONS INCLUDING ALL BRAKE KITS WHICH ARE MADE TO ORDER.

When messaging him before purchase, he said the kit is ready and he just needs to order the discs that are sent directly to me by the manufacturer.

I'm going to have a fight on my hands with this. He's coming up with all sorts that doesn't really make sense. To start off with he asked for pictures of the issue like it's something he's not aware of, when shown he's just dismissed my concerns saying "pad coverage only effects pad wear rate not braking efficiency". He's using his custom made clause to argue about the 15% re-stocking fee but when I mention he told me the parts were made and on the shelf his reply was "as i said above, the kit is designed to upgrade the 318mm front setup, the discs are available off the shelf but you'll need to get them modified if you don't buy from us. Therefore custom modified for you". It's not a response to what I said and it makes no sense anyway as I ordered the discs though his website.

If you used a bank\credit card, then you could go that route for getting the money back.
I suggest getting a letter on headed paper from a garage or engineer, to say they are not fit for purpose.
Use that as evidence to the card provider.

He can't use his terms to get around the law, making upon demand is not the same as custom made. The drilled holes in the discs that are near to others and overlap in one case look unsafe. As the other poster said, if you used a credit card go to them first. If you used a debit card, you have less protection but should still contact them, many banks will assist. Look at https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/section... for the credit card protection.
