Also Fast Bug, that looks so good covered in muck! Cars look so purposeful when they're all dirtied from the road. I missed out on that meet on Portsdown hill in the end, did it happen?
Mine's usually dirty, they look much better with a good coating of grime! Yes Portsdown Hill happened, also had another one over Salisbury way and I had to cancel this months one because of the weather. Next one is 20th of May at Brooklands, you can do the hillclimb at that one if you're feeling brave

Next one for me is Combe on the 7th April - not fancy a visit? I think its £12 a ticket in advance, or £20 on the gate. You can watch me spin onto the grass (kidding hopefully). The hillclimb sounds fun too - is it a buy tickets online job or do folks turn up?Yes Portsdown Hill happened, also had another one over Salisbury way and I had to cancel this months one because of the weather. I like the idea of the adjustable spoiler/wing, in practice though I think it looks better in it's unadjusted position so it sits flush. I really like BBS rims on that, looks the part.
If I was after a 996 then I'd wanted a kitted one in a bright colour like this with racy wheels, just looks more sporty and exciting than many I've seen...

I'd love to go, sadly April is birthday month in our house (mine and both kids) and the 7th is the day of my 40th party, I wouldn't be popular if I wasn't around for it There's a thread about the Brooklands meet on 911UK if you're on there? I've arranged for parking in a group inside Brooklands itself, but you'd need to be there before 9.30 for that. From memory it's £14.50, and that includes entry to the museum and breakfast

A few of us will be going to Bedford on Monday 4th June (Javelin) if you fancy it. 2 x 996 C2 confirmed so far, possibly one more.
That's really tempting actually, I've never been but I've heard Bedfords a good track for a bit of learning as there's a lot of run off.Fast Bug said:

Ah I do read it but I'm not a member yet, its on the list to sign up anyway. I'll get on it on my lunch break later today, I'd like to come along to that! There's a thread about the Brooklands meet on 911UK if you're on there? Theres finally been the perfect storm of no terrible weather or things to have to do over the weekend - which means car activities!
So today was the satisfying job of taking the front bumper off and removing all the trapped debris in the radiators, a job that everyone with a 996 should probably do at least once a year. I also cleaned out the front arches and insides of the front wheels while I was at it - hopefully tomorrow I can attack the rears again. Bit of a detailing post, apologies if its a bit boring!
Wheels off -
Bumper off -
The black radiator is the air condensor for the air conditioning - this unclips and unveiled lots of dirt trapped between the two, on both sides of the car.
Cleaned it all up, including everything behind the bumper - then buttoned it all back up. Not the most exciting update, but definitely some important maintainance.
Also, quick wipe of the wheel barrels -
Before -
And after -
Very satisfying work really, at least for me! The next update should be around the track bits on Castle Combe, fingers crossed on that one

I have a long thin nozzel on the hoover (henry)which shifted a load of detritis at the bottom of the rads.
This week also removed the rear offside arch liner. TBH dont know what it does as a ton of mud trapped behind it. Hosed off along with the wheel arch lip that was hanging onto a ton of road grime / mud.
On the to do list to jack it up, wheels and arch liners off and wash out with the hose.

Out of interest OP, did you look at a number of 996s before buying this one?
Thanks.
I looked at a Cayman first, which was really nice to drive but a smidge underpowered (Tried the 2.7 as the 3.4 was a bit scary with the borescore stories). I'd definitely still have a Cayman though, it was great fun. I then went to view one 996 before this one, which was a cheap 2001 model if I recall. That cemented the idea of going for a 996 which is what I'd actually wanted really - but not that cheap one as it had a host of issues and it was just a bit tatty.Thanks.
So I took the car to Castle Combe for the Forge action day this morning - horrendously early start at 5:30 in order to get there and get parked on the stand. Disappointingly it was raining and I almost didn't go on track, but I had a last minute change of heart and went on. I was bricking it to be honest, all previous track experience has been in easier to drive E46's on dry days only - but in reality it was lovely on track. I was taking it easy (read: I was slow and shaky) and it all felt very composed even in the wet.
Looking forward to finding a picture or two online, in the meantime for anyone wanting to burn 2 minutes - one of the laps.
