Beautiful car! I love a 996 in Guards Red and the aero kit makes this one! Agreed on the interior, makes my threadbare one look it's age! biggrin

Don't worry about the slave cylinder, they seem to die if the car is left for a while without being used. At least they're external and quick to change.

Lovely car, well done! My SC was Guards Red, I've always thought 911s look good in it.

Would you mind revealing how much it cost you?

I hope it was significantly more than I paid for mine or I'll be gutted!

Haha! JS1500 have you got a picture of yours? I tried digging through the forums to see if you had a thread but Pistonheads is a bit useless laugh

I paid £18.5k in the end, it seemed at the more expensive end but I loved the spec and it's had a tonne of work done over the past year or two that I'd probably need to do on a slightly cheaper one.

As my Dad would have said-you weren't robbed at that sort of price

That is a very nice looking car - I saw it when it was advertised at Friends Green Porsche. I hope you enjoy and it and welcome to the 996 Aero Kit club!

Here's mine - 2001 C4 in Zanzibar Red with 48k miles - one of the replicas created by Porsche for the belated UK GT3 launch event:

Fastlane thats bloody lovely, nice low miles too.

I've got a bit of an oil related question for the 996 owners - PPBB in particular with his mega mileage. What oil are folks running? I asked the garage who serviced it last so I could get some top up oil and they've put 10W60 in, I think normally they're better suited to 5W40 or 10W50 according to other things I've read?

Looking at that interior I v much doubt those seats have covered 100k miles as the leather would be shiny and creased. I would not be surprised if they have been recovered or were not the original seats. That interior is great more like 10k miles!

I might switch over to 10W50 on the next oil change then, it seems fairly happy for now on this. The oil pressure is around 1.5 bar when up to temperature, its nice having a gauge to tell me information like that, the BMW doesn't even have a water temperature gauge.

All has been ticking over nicely in the meantime, not much to report really. I took it out for a good lengthy drive with a few mates all around the South Downs, Portsmouth and back up via Hindhead tunnel (lots an lots of dropping a gear and flooring it for the noise lick)

Nicer pictures will come via a friend with an SLR, but I really liked this one!

1.5bar at idle is a tad low - mine runs at 2.0-2.1 ish when fully hot, and just under 3 when cooled down after a higher speed run. Given you've got 10w60 in it, I'd say your coolant temps are running quite high.

Definitely fit a low temp thermostat too - the engine idles at just over 80 degrees water temperature which helps the oil. Front bumper off, unbolt the a/c condensors and move them aside and give the rads a good washing/blasting clean too.

The car looks splendid though, easily the best colour with the aerokit! And yes, Hindhead tunnel is dangerous for noise making smile

Yeah its always ran at around that level, if I turn on the AC it bumps it up a bit at idle thanks to the revs being a little higher. The coolant currently sits at about 90C, is it better for the block to run a little cooler then? I'll have a little look into that as a winter job, along with cleaning/sealing the underside!

Does anyone know how to remove the side skirts on these for an inspection? I cleaned and sealed my E46's back when I had them, and removal was really easy with them just being clipped on.

Fair old mixture of metal there! How does the DC5 do against the 996?

Any excuse to post a pic! I haven't started a thread for mine yet, mainly because I've not done much with it since I bought it in February but also because there are a few threads of much nicer 996s on here already - yours now too!
Mine was significantly cheaper (needs a few things...) but yours is significantly nicer, I reckon! I don't think yours was expensive at all.

Just back on the road with a new radiator. I bloomin' love driving it everywhere, as much as possible.

Yep, better to run that bit cooler - higher temp stat was fitted to help with idle emissions, but for power and longevity the lower temp one is best.

We did have a mix on the go! FWD, RWD & 4WD among all the other differences there. The owner of the Integra has some better pictures of the day to send through, his is a nice and very well kept car. I thought they were a really good match, being on public roads there weren't too many opportunities to really go for it but when we did they were pretty similar. I think the plans to head to Bedford next Spring and we can have a proper comparison there along with the rest of the group which will be a fun day.

That is a beauty of a 996! My arctic silver looks bland in comparison.

How are these for baby/kid seats? I often think of getting one to replace my Elise as it would mean I can take the family out but I can't bear to part with the Lotus!

OP in case you didn’t know, read up on this little trick RE accurate coolant temperature reading:

http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=81945

I track my car also; definitely fit the lower temperature thermostat, and then possibly a baffled sump (FVD sump is quality). FWIW I use Fuchs Race Pro 5W40 but I guess that’s a personal choice.

I have a DC2 and a 996 C2 and both are excellent driver’s car.
