4.2 v8 400hp and the stunning red leather interior really cant go wrong, Must sound glorious at full chat. Great choice Sir hope she serves you well.
Many thanks smile Certainly does go well! Sounds fantastic at high revs.

I'm looking for a bit more volume at some point, with out ruining the character of the car. May go for one of these - https://www.larinisystems.com/collection/maserati/...
Apparently a bit more volume.

Congratulations on the purchase. Has it had the variators done? If not then you might want to set aside a little money just in case.

Keep an eye on the inside of the front tyres - the wishbone bushes commonly go causing uneven tread wear.

Even though the gearbox is supposed to be sealed for life, it is a good idea to change the oil and filter at around 50k miles.

Keep an ear out for a tinkling or ticking sound from the rear when pulling away. If you hear it then it'll be the handbrake shoes - have them looked at before they cause expensive damage.

Finally, periodically lift the boot floor and check for water pooling in the well.

Many thanks for the reply Voicey,

I've just had a check though the service history, and can't seem to see any mention of the variations being done, Is this something I would be able to hear if there was a problem?

Good info about the gearbox too, thank you.

I did have a look though the history, and found the last specialist replaced the handbrake shoes in November 2016 which is good!

I shall have a check in the boot as well, as it will be left outside, as the garage isn't large enough.. Almost odnt want to put a cover on it either, as I enjoy seeing when I come back in the van!

Yes - the variator problem manifests itself in one of two ways.

a) Loud ticking/knocking on a cold start that goes away once the oil pressure builds up.
b) Rough running and noise after snapping the throttle shut. I call this "dieseling" as it makes the engine sound like a diesel.

The fix is new variators and to have an oilway machined into the camshaft caps. Parts are minimal but the labour adds up.

This issue affects 4.2 and 4.7 litre units with engine numbers below 148697 fitted to both the GT and QP.

Many thanks,

Will keep an ear out when it starts up, certainly don’t it does it at the moment though.

I have seen a small line of fluid on the ground after manourering in a car park though.. Not sure what this is,

The Larini Club sport X pipe has arrived today (very quick delivery!) All booked in to get it fitted on Monday hopefully! Hope this will release a bit more volume without ruining the character of the engine.
