Plot twist.

After two bottles of red wine and a Saturday evening of thinking about a larger car, I spent Sunday working out how best to tell the wife I’ve bought the family (ok, it’s a toy for me) a 9-5 Aero estate.

She reacted well and as I didn’t wake up with a steak knife in my chest today, I think it’s fair to assume the Alfa will be going on the market now.

Once I get around to washing it and posting an ad,

I’ll finish off painting those b pillars too but I can’t see me swapping the bumpers over now or bothering with the belt.

It looks like I may be one of those Alfa owners that come out the other side without having their arse/wallet bitten smile

Good day but sad day, I also have the other shell to get off the drive too but I’ll wait so the new buyer can pick over anything they want from it.

You can't say that until it's gone! eek

Good luck with the sale. Hope the Slab gives you as much fun.

Time is running out for the Alfa...

Collected this today so really need to shift some of the parking lot outside.

The SAAB uses different oil to the Alfa so I may as well finish doing the oil on the Alfa until it sells and maybe swap over the bumper.

Now I have another car to get around in, I don’t need to try and rush jobs to finish them the same day anymore.

A shame to see the brave little 147 go, but i cant begrudge a man his saab, lovely cars, and probably what id drive if it werent for alfa.

Surely someone on this thread will want a well documented 147?

I don’t know why it takes me to be selling a car to get around to addressing minor niggles that I’ve put up with for ages...

One side of the front bumper has been missing a silver trim and I finally got around to taking it from the donor and fitting it, a slightly more involved job than expected as you have to release the trim from the rear of the bumper so the whole thing had to come off.

I also gave the bumper on mine a bit of a realignment and a sanded and sprayed up the primer bits of bumper showing through with some black I had spare.

I also lost an hour trying to get the sump plug off again without success, cold chisel, heat, Allen keys, etc.

Guess oil changes will be via hoover from now on.

I had a 146, so practically the same car. The sump plug thread was over torqued and shredded. Had to glue the plug and use a Pela pump to extract the oil. Filter was removed by reaching under the front and grabbing with my hand so no drama really. Wouldn't bother undoing the sump plug now...

Exactly. I think that’s what has happened as I don’t think the previous owner was a torque wrenching owning sort of owner.

It’s a shame as you could pretty much do the whole thing without even jacking the car up.

I’ll just give whoever buys it the 10W40 as the SAAB doesn’t need it.

So that’s what spraying rattle cans in the fading light at ten o’clock turns out like... smile

It’s over.

I opted for a ph ad but in the end two days of the Gumtree Gauntlet yielded results with a local chap needing commuter wheels for the missus.

He is £375 lighter and the Alfa is gone!

Of course, the sale of the Alfa nownmeans the donor is no longer needed. The wife has expressly forbidden me from stripping anything else off it to sell so I’ve to weigh it in.

Eldest taking care of the last rites for it.

So what did it all cost for those 11 heady months of Alfa mayhem and madness?

Including purchase of the car, road tax, parts (including the spare car!) and deducting sale price (and scrap value for the donor) its cost me £1343 (including £70 for a new MAF I didn’t need) over 5185 miles and 11 months.

Cost per mile - Exc fuel £0.26
Cost per month - £123

Don’t think I’d be able to lease anything for £123 a month that would be as much fun as the 147 has been, I miss it already...

Attention now turns to my 9-5 Aero that cost £950 and is currently leaking autobox fluid on the drive and a list of things to keep my hands grubby biggrin

Arrivederci Alfa!
