I think it's a good way to go, Grant. These auction sites are all the rage at the moment, and hopefully you get some media attention, as Harris et al share the odd listing on social. wink

Good luck with the sale.

It’s a while since I sold a car but it was an eye opener! I can imagine that stuff like M3’s will attract fair few daydreamers

Perhaps it's is a sign of the times, but I'm amazed this didn't sell on Cutters. Hens teeth specification and a fair price really. Had this been available when I sold my Z4M last year I'd have been properly tempted.

Good luck with the auction.

I think these auction sites are quite interesting and a good idea Grant. There is “the Market” aswell but Collecting Cars looks better (with way more cars).
Thanks guys. thumbup

The CC thing is an interesting one; they deal with some extremely high value, well known models but also deal with some real left-field stuff along with 'lower level but still interesting' cars too. I think that on paper my M3 seems to fit the CC brief really well given the condition, spec and '1 of 22' rarity; but we'll see what happens.

I assume (like any auction) it really depends on who is in a position to bid on the car at the time. I've been keeping a much closer eye on the auctions over the past few weeks and while cars have generally done pretty well; there have been some cars which I thought would make very good money but have failed to go stratospheric (the ex-MWStewart E46 M3 being one!) and at the same time some cars which I didn't see generating much interest have done really well.

I'm sure if CH mentions it on social media somewhere then the exposure won't do any harm. smile

Is there anything coming to replace it, or are you going to spend some more time driving the other cars you have?
There's nothing in the pipeline really because I've had no time to drive anything this year and I'm unsure if that is going to change the near-medium future. The lockdown period didn't help, but in all honesty even without the Covid thing, I think that I would have struggled to make time to use any of my cars this year anyway. Outside of work mileage, I've probably covered around 1000 miles this year with ~800 of those miles being in the E91 driving the dog around; so the remaining ~200 miles spread across a few cars is a pretty poor show!! smile

That's the reason I'm selling the M3; a genuine lack of use that's seen it cover ~100 miles since the last MOT in November. eek

I hope you are successful. Failing that I sold my black E46 M3 through Munich Legends last November. Bit of a trek for you I appreciate but Dan there did a great job for me. I thought his commission was fair and he got the price I wanted. Sold within a month and no hassle for me - I just didn’t have the time to sell it.
Thanks Gus, I'm aware of ML and while I've not seen their stock in person it looks like they sell some amazing cars.

I'll need to have a think about what I want to do if the auction doesn't produce a sale but a SoR deal might be possible I guess. Although I did think that if the car remained with me throughout another winter hibernation then I would probably just hang onto it until I found the time to use it again at some point next year.. but we'll see. smile

Well today is the final day of the auction and the car has attracted a large amount of attention on social media; which has transferred to the auction with ~160 watchers and ~6000 viewers... and given my meagre ~700 person following on Instagram, I can assure you that it's not of my own doing. laugh

The auction ends at 7:40pm tonight, so it will be interesting to see where it ends up. smile

Good luck with the sale.

I remember Internet browsing M3's and seeing your car for sale at a dealers in Edinburgh. I was very tempted. Next thing I'm reading this thread with you buying it.

It spurred me into buying my C63.

I agree, given the current/future direction that performance cars are heading and the '1 of 22' rarity of the manual CP versions of the E92 M3 then I can see values steadily rising and eventually pulling away from the DCT cars. However time will tell if I'm a mad blinkered owner (ex-owner weeping ) living in a rose tinted world or not. laugh

Yeah I have been told by a few people they had spotted the car appear at RR in Edinburgh.. one of whom was close to putting a deposit down over the phone as I was test driving the car. smile

I guess it was just luck really, I was in the right position to view/buy immediately and managed to get through to Edinburgh before anyone else... doesn't feel like 3 years ago though?!

Hope you're enjoying the C63.. they are nice cars which make an unbelievable noise. cool

Thanks guys, the car did really well.

I'm happy with the final figure.. after talking to CC yesterday morning it was a bit of a leap of faith and roll of the dice to remove the reserve price with a few hours to go, however in real terms we were within spitting distance of it anyway, so it made sense to let people know they were bidding to buy the car.

Another thing about the final hammer price which I'm happy about is the fact that it vindicates me in regards to the value I placed on the car previously when I advertised it privately and had numerous people get in touch to waste my time and offer me/tell me it was worth thousands less.

I understand that everyone is entitled to an opinion on value, but I personally wouldn't bother contacting someone selling a car if I valued it at thousands less than they're asking for it.. because unless they're in dire straits, it's not gonna go anywhere.

That said, it was a rare car when it was new given there were only 22 of them made; so there weren't many people who could see the value of a manual CP car over a DCT car back then.. that has changed a bit and I think is likely to change even more in time, but we'll see. I've certainly got first dibs to buy this one back from the new owner. smile

As far as I know, the new owner isn't on here (certainly don't think he's popped in here before) but has said that he owns an identical spec DCT car that my car is going to sit next to. What a combo!! cool

Sounds like it going to an enthusiast which is great, has he collected it already?

I agree with you, people who over thousands under asking price are generally chancers! Every car I sell you always get it, and generally are bed room traders! And of course you get the Internet people who have an opinion on everything! lol

I noticed these cars are getting more and more attention lately, and really do think the nice ones will be sought after in the coming years.

Well done Grant. A good result, and great to have owned such a clean low mileage example.

So with the money burning a hole in your pocket, there's only one question to ask: what's next?!

Yeah it's definitely going to an enthusiast; he is currently driving a Ferrari Lusso V12 and R8 V10 through The Alps on his way to Monaco on a driving tour.. so it sounds like the little M3 is going to share garage space with some extremely special stuff.

Haha absolutely! It used to be (certainly personally speaking) that you'd only get the wannabe Mike Brewers on Facebook/Gumtree offering you pennies for cars which were already being sold between a few hundred and a couple of grand in value.. the higher level stuff never really seemed to attract that sort.
Regardless of value, I actually don't mind these people getting in touch and throwing an offer at me straight away because if that's their business and they can get a car cheap enough to flip then happy days. However I do have a big issue with people pretending to be genuine by asking lots of questions and requesting further photos/videos of the car; only to then turn round and drop a bid 2, 3 or 4k less than the asking price on me.

I think the level that the E92 (in particular CP models) are currently at makes them quite attractive as 'safe' investment material, whilst still maintaining a fairly modern feel and equipment level. You could still use one of these cars daily without any issues at all; where as other 'safe' investment cars around the same kind of value tend to be a bit older so don't have the modern equipment, safety features, comfort and/or reliability.

Thanks Rich, it's been great to own the car and I've got some epic memories from the ~3 years and ~7k miles that I've had with it. I'm really glad that I kept this thread updated as best I could too, it's nice to look back on. smile

Re: a replacement, the reason I have sold the M3 is purely because it's covered ~100 miles since the last MOT in November and was a massive, massive waste sitting there doing nothing. Given that I haven't had time to use the M3 and that doesn't look like that will change in the near future, I wasn't planning to replace it with anything... however, I am now considering selling the Impreza as well (it's also covered ~100 in 12 months!) and if I go down that route then I will want something to replace it. If I can get to that point then my current feeling is to try and get another Honda S2000 or a Porsche Boxster to fill the space in the garage but we'll see what happens.
