The e92 is a beautiful car still I think. I had a 320d sport plus red/black but it wasn't my cup of tea (I prefer hot hatches for driving style) but every time I drive past an e92 of any sort I take a second look. I bet that's a fun car to waft about in.

Not really, its plenty fast enough, anymore power would require a proper LSD, infact it needs one now really, just can't afford it.

I would like LCI rear lights but don't fancy paying 350quid for em 2nd hand.

Go for it, I had a C55, loved it, but this bimmer doesn't disappoint.

Looks good.

Nice to see another 335i running bigger power than standard and not having issues! (even though mine is stock)

What horror stories? Engine is pretty solid for silly numbers generally.
As well as the common issues you've identified, you have turbo waste gates, gearbox oil sump, valve cover, injectors. All of which tend to go at some point and have chunky bills associated. You're right though, the engine itself is not know for problems.

Lovely car

Love the car OP! I've got a soft spot for E92s with a 335D myself, its hit 160k this morning and genuinely still feels tight as a drum. Have you got any plans for track bits, or is it purely a fast road car?

Wastegate effects higher mileage and earlier cars generally, mine are fine. Gearbox oil sump news to me. Valve cover has been done out of precaution but hardly on its own, lots of performance lumps leak oil over time, and I mentioned injectors already, which aren't cheap that is the bad one. Earlier cars i.e 06-08 do seem worse.

Why's that? I thought only embarrassed 318d drivers did that. wink

Have you looked into having the inlet valves walnut blasted? I see that is an N54 thing that seems to be advocated.

And don't debadge IMO.

I'm with Smokey on this.

Whenever I see a debadged Bimmer, I immediately assume it's packing a tiny four-pot of some description, especially if the car has an aftermarket exhaust (BMW geeks can usually tell which engine a car is fitted with when looking at a standard exhaust).

Having said that, I once saw a completely debadged Audi RS6 on the motorway... It didn't half look good! biggrin

I would remove the badge because i think it makes the car look better. I also dont care what other people think about what I am driving. If you do then you had probably better leave it on.

We used to, as 6 pots had twin pipes and 4s had a single outlet. Now even the 520d has pipes each side! A 335d has the same as an M Sport 320d.

So yeah, keep the awesome badging haha.

I agree all the way, and I find it a joke that the 520d gets pipes each side now, when I had my 520d it correctly had a crappy single pipe because It's a crappy engine, yet now a 4 pot diesel is glorified for some reason with it's pipes each side.

If I had my way the 20d engine would be burned with fire...nevermind given nice exhausts!! biggrin

Nope. If the car starts running badly or somet, I might look into it. I know they can get quite bad on higher mileage cars.

I wasn't suggesting you're in for a world of pain with your car. It was more a general comment on common issues with the N54 for anyone considering one. It's an awesome engine though.

Yeah fair enough. Yeah I had a 5.4 N/A V8 before this and I don't really miss it at all, well except the noise hehe.
