How do you earn so much money!
I'm approaching 32 and still sub £30K a year it's really starting to become reality that I will never own a supercar and it hurts - a lot
TBH All I want is the Supra for sale on here for £9,990 too and I can't afford that!

You don’t get rich working for someone unless you become CEO etc. Starting a business is where the big money is.
I’m sorry but I’ve got to disagree with you 100%. I’ve got telesales that work with me pulling out £250,000 per year. They work Monday to Friday, 9:15am - 5pm. Early finish pretty much everyday now as they are smashing targets. Most of them do about 30hrs per week. One of the companies most recent success stories is from a very young yet talented girl called Devon that works with me. She’s just turned 22 and bought her first house, a £265,000 detached house. I’m so happy for her, we all are.
So no, you don’t need to be a CEO to earn good money, you just need to show your worth to the company.

Money is a byproduct of the effort you put into your work.

Cheers
Pete
Fair enough sounds like you have a great place for your employees to work but I wouldn’t say you were typical. Most people don’t become supercar rich earning a wage.

As a little side note; the amount of money you bring in isn’t related to ‘effort’ you put into your work either. Otherwise nurses and teachers would all be millionaires rather than being paid a pittance...

Pete, best thread ever, you are winning the internet! I check in here daily now just to check the latest on this thread.

Question for you: have you ever gone into a swanky dealership in your civvies, been ignored by a salesman that is judging a book by it's cover, only for you to return to said dealership to collect a new motor giving the business to one of his colleagues or even another garage?

Kinda like in Pretty Woman on Rodeo Drive, "You work on commission yes? big mistake!" laugh

If it was anyone else, I'd be calling custard on a £250k telesales job. I'm guessing it's not quite the typical cold calling that most telesales jobs involve though.

I think company size will often determine job progression and pay. Larger companies have set pay grades with progression being slow and linear. A £250k+ salary in a large company will only be for very senior positions, which can't feasibly be achieved until later in life.

Smaller companies on the other hand where the MD / CEO regular sees your performance and / or works closely with you, then I could see fast progression and a salary that more accurately reflects worth.
It's perfectly possible in the energy/utilities broker space, if you're good and focus on corporate accounts. Sales is a meritocracy and with the right MD/company owner focus (ie not capping commissions etc) the teams can be very well (and justly) rewarded for their contributions.
Also very much possible in the IT security space. Not enough experienced people for the burgeoning demand in the industry. Moderately experienced technical types can expect 6 figures with whopping pension, car allowance and healthcare included.

I know sales guys who have 100k basics and 100k bonuses. Tag on to that an overachievement on target and the above ‘perks’ and they will take home £250k in a good year

Ah sorry yeah it did get lost in translation didn’t it. I was going to buy it but got offered the Senna and there’s no comparison is there so I went for the latter.
A few press reactions to the Senna to get you excited, they got to drive one at Silverstone this week.

Agreed on this thread, it’s bringing the best people out and the best out in people. Top work all round.
Never fancied investing in the more classic/iconic super car stuff Pete? Likes of the McLaren F1, XJ220, Diablo SV?
I do fancy that indeed, that’s why I’m being quiet about the upcoming ‘deal’. I’m not holding my breath though, LOTS of mitigating factors that could turn it sour very quickly.
You’ll all have to wait 4 weeks until I have some more news. Sorry guys.
I’m sure 4 weeks will fly by, let’s face it though you will buy something else in those 4 weeks!

Good Oldham lad, my fiancé’s family are from Oldham and her aunts next door neighbor keeps an orange lambo under cover on his drive. Amazing when everyone around has humdrum family cars.

Only a Miura, I just don’t like Lamborghini as a brand.
I saw a Youtube video of Harry Metcalfe reviewing a Miura that had just been sold a few days ago, I must admit to thinking of you when he said it was sold. It's a great review if you have 30 minutes spare to watch it.

Haha this happened yesterday, exactly this.
I’ll give you guys the names just in case you think ‘BS’ you can call them and they’ll tell you the same.
I walked into Williams Land Rover Hulme with Nick (our sales director) and asked if I could see a salesman and that they should be able to find the family name on the system. All my brothers and their wives have Rangey’s or Disco’s so I wanted to know who it is we normally deal with, memory’s not that good anymore.
Anyway because I was dressed in jeans, trainers and a hoodie I was given a terribly rude salesman called Ross who just didn’t give a crap. He kept calling me Pal, I said my name was Pete not Pal, he snapped and said whatever. I asked for John instead, he got pissy and walked off and never came back. The receptionist Tracey (lovely woman) saw this and was absolutely shocked.
It all ended well though, John came out and made the sale.
So yeah, he basically prejudged me on what I was wearing.
I understand they finish at 6pm and it was 5:15pm but I’m quick when buying a car as I know what I want. I think he was annoyed because he probably thought I was going to take ages and then not buy anything because of how I was dressed.
Oh well, John gets the commission now.
That’s as Richard Gere as it gets haha

He wasn’t being a knob per se, he just didn’t like being corrected. I guess he skipped that orientation at sales school haha.
I normally wouldn’t be that bothered (it happens A LOT) if he would have called me mate, buddy, chap, etc etc. It’s just that my father used to call me and my brothers ‘Pal’ as a degrading slur, I guess it’s just always grated on me.
Anyway he’s down commission so I hope he treats the next ‘customer’ a bit better.
Sod it, to cheer myself up I’ve just purchased a new car, coming next Friday so watch out for the video. I must say that I’m excited by this purchase.

You get dissed by a car salesman, so buy another car to cheer yourself up - my dad passed away today, so I bought myself a bottle of Merlot and some Drumstick Squashies to cheer myself up. It's all about levels I guess lol

Just read the majority of this thread and wow, you are an inspiration Pete!

Very jealous of the car collection.

I'm currently working full time, going through uni part time and trying to establish my own business on the side, hoping to be where you are in 10 years time so it's reassuring to see it can be done.

If you ever need an Architect (or anyone else) let me know wink

Sorry to hear about your father, I’m sure you’ll be raising a glass of Merlot to him tonight.
