Thanks! Really appreciate all the kind comments, it’s a labour of love and I feel privileged to own it and be able to carry out lots of work on it myself.

The car was picked up last week to go over to Ben at String Theory Garage (he is based at Caffeine and Machine), who is sorting the manifold bolts for me and doing the full suspension refresh. I gave up doing it myself after snapping a number of bolts off!! This is very common as Porsche use steel bolts which obviously rust and expand causing all sorts of issues, added to the this the fact that my manifolds have never been off made them totally trashed and rotten!!!

In order to be able to ensure that the bolts are precisely drilled out Ben ordered a Stomski jig, essentially a bolt on adapter that comes with all drill bits and thread tapping tools thus ensuring it is all done properly.

Nearside manifold, note the 6 snapped studs!!

Offside with only 2 snapped.

The jig attached.

Work in progress.

The finished result.

Very happy that I chose to use Ben and have been super impressed, he’s used to working on Porsche’s and has his own modded 996 Turbo, he called me after getting the first one sorted to say how pleased he was it was going and then sent all the photos in the evening, always great to be kept in the loop.
All we are waiting on now are the titanium studs and copper nuts that are going in, if they ever need to come off again it will be a 10 minute job!!

Next up the suspension refresh!

Photos too. If only there was a Ben in every garage.

OP, when do you think you will get the car back, you can drive out for exercise now...

Indeed he is, absolutely top bloke and treats every car as if it were his. Hopefully if all goes well next week! Can’t wait.

I hope the dirty finger marks on your manifold coating annoys you as much as it does on mine. I need to share this affliction.

Haha i started off like that with mine but after a couple of times on and off i realised it is what it is frown they seem to burn off when they get really hot and go brilliant white again but the stains remain further down the manifold where it mustn't get so hot.

Love the gt3 and attention to detail on this thread. You'll have to get some sound clips up when possible!

Are those copper bolts or just reflecting the copper washers? I'm never sure when to use titanium, stainless steel or just steel. What's the best for long term corrosion resistance and being able to undo them years into the future?

Titanium for everything if you have the budget.

Brake cleaner takes a lot of the dirty marks off the manifolds but as soon as they get wet from the rain they will be brown in no time.

Apologies I meant copper nuts, they are waaaay softer than Ti and the two metals don’t react together so you have no issues at all.

The car has been away for a while having the manifold bolts and full suspension refresh and today is collection day!! Soooo excited, can’t wait to hear and drive it!

Here are some pictures that Ben has been updating me with of the suspension refresh, had to replace a few more parts that originally anticipated but well worth doing it all properly. I will do a break down of everything that was done when I get the bill!!!!

Love this. Going through a similar process on a lowly 2.7 Cayman oven in the Porsche forums.

Can I ask where you got the titanium studs and copper flange nuts? Want to start with cat back to manifold refresh of the rusty lumps I have first before I consider a manifold change and replace the bolts with studs and nuts.

Cheers.
