Dzeus should always be taped over, then if the two panels move relative to each other they won't pop. Gorilla tape is the current motorsport spec biggrin

Very best option is Tridair Live Locks which are what is generally used in F1 - https://jet-tek.com/tridair-structural-panel-faste... available from Trident at Silverstone or Clarendon FS among others - http://www.tridentracing.co.uk/racing-supplies/tri... , http://www.clarendonsf.com/products/commercial/pan... but make sure you a sitting down when you price them up! There isn't really a better option though. You could do 45 degree or curved surfaces in captive nuts and bolt down with countersunks in an ally bucket (as 45's/curved always pop Dzeus) and the Dzeus on flat to flat..... or the above mentioned race tape wink

If you do a standard trailer you really want a cover for the car too as cars on exposed trailers do get filthy even on a nice day. PCC do the best ones - https://www.prestige-carcovers.co.uk/index.php?pag...

The engine is common with the Cooper S so there are LOTS of tuning options out there biggrin

Superb thread, Julian will you be keeping this thread updated?

And what are your plans for the car?

Not quite the same as seeing Kelly Brook in a bikini in the Rotherham branch of Aldi but driving through Chapel-en-le-Frith today (which took about 30 seconds (it’s that big a place) I saw something very out of place in the corner of the high street (how quaint) Peugeot dealer. Naturally I had to park up and wander back. I’d initially thought it was the white/red stripe 20Cup 3 wheeler but that thought had my noggin spinning as why would Peugeot plop one of their concept cars at a tiny village garage? On closer inspection it turned out to be a THP Spider. A what? Like many others I’d never heard of or seen one before so did a quick google search which lead me to this thread. It’s at Horderns Peugeot and is chassis 18 of 50 according to the plate on the roll hoop and it looks quite dusty too. Guessing it’s been there for years?

That’s so ironic - chapel en le frith is about 20 mins up the road from me! Edited to add - mine is chassis 22 of 50, so just 4 cars away from the one you saw!

I might be tempted to go and have a look at it!

I’ve been really busy at work since I bought the car from ppbb in the summer and unfortunately therefore I haven’t been able to use it!

I did, however, sell my transit in favour of a Peugeot Boxer van so that when I roll next year (still looking at suitable trailerage!) I’ll be rocking a full Garlic chomping rig!

My plans for the car are to livery it up in my company colours and initially attend a track that I know really well like Oulton. I did get invited to Silverstone a month or two back by a fellow 207THP owner (thanks Matt) but sadly I couldn’t attend.

So far therefore, nothing to report but I’ll definitely be back once something has happened!

Well today something mildly interesting happened. I went up on my ramp to inspect another car and noticed that the 207 was beneath me - it looked simply enormous. I snapped it here - you’ll see what I mean!

.. well the car sat in my garage until a couple of weeks ago. Basically I realised that transporting and running the car would be a pain but that at some point I’d buy a trailer and use it. Which didn’t happen.

So a mate of mine mentioned that book-a-track are now “want to race”’and that they do a service where they take your car and store it for you, prep it and deliver it to the track when you want to use it.

Wished I’d known about it sooner! Today was my first drive in the car since we bought it in 2018. It was ready to go apart from a quick brake bleed and a bit of an oil leak on the sump pan somewhere.

First driving impressions are very positive - we were at Donington GP today - the car takes Craner flat in 5th and is very quick around that half of the track. It’s extremely stable and easy to drive. At slower speeds I noted pronounced understeer which is interesting because ppbb notes oversteer but that was prior to him fitting the big rear tyres. I’ve reported this to WTR for a little attention.

We had a slight misfire which hampered proceedings - most notable at high rpm - it’s fine under load but as the revs climb you can feel it. I’m thinking to get them to change the leads and plugs and send the injectors for test in case something isn’t quite right there.

Performance wise it didn’t feel 230hp today. In a straight line the car is no faster than a reasonable Caterham, but around the lap it’ll on balance mix it with cars like an Aston GT8, Challenge Stradale, 964 Cup - that kind of thing. They catch you on the straight bits and you hammer them on the corners and under the brakes. It’s extremely good fun and not at all tiring to drive - I felt like I could stay out all day but I had to keep swapping my passengers around!

It does absolutely feel like it needs another 100hp at least before that chassis would be even remotely taxed. I can see why they built them like this - I should imagine the racing was wheel to wheel! Any clever ideas to get lots of power reasonably cheaply?

Here are a few pics from today

Fantastic you've had it out for a run Julian! Great to see it on track biggrin

With regards low speed understeer I believe the front bar is on medium at the moment, get them to change this to soft and it should reduce the low speed understeer. You're quite right that before I went up a tyre size it was prone to oversteer with the slightest bit of post apex throttle.

High RPM misfire may well be the same thing I had when I purchased the car, it had stood for about 2 years at that point and there was some light corrosion on the plugs, they don't take kindly to a wire brushing as they are very small electrodes but a fresh set solved it for me. Maybe treat it to a new fuel filter as well if it has stood with fuel in it for a while.

With regards power I believe PugSport now have a copy of Wintax that will talk to the ECU and there is a hybrid turbo option.....

Thanks PPBB - yes I had an absolute blast and I could see that everyone around me was loving it too - to get back out on track after everything this year I think was a complete release. There were a fair number of reds during the day so I think a few people were enjoying it a little too much!!!

I’ll mention the roll bar. Matt at Pug1Off (hehe gets me every time that) mentions the VVT solenoid? I noticed that I couldn’t get the shift lights to light up and more than 3 out of the six?

I’d also quite like a rear view camera - does anyone do a credible motorsport one that would replace the mirrors?

It seems that chassis #18 was sold at auction last year here in the UK

Its looking stunning on the track biggrin

As for your misfire issue, I would point out that the HPFP's that this engine uses is a weak point, one of the symptoms of it failing is a misfire at higher revs, best to get it checked out to be on the safe side smile

Thanks - I was monitoring the fuel pressure on the dash as the misfire happened and I saw no change - I seem to recall fuel pressure of around 150 (!) under load. Sound about right?

Yep that's about right if memory serves. The HPFP was one of the items I replaced when I got hold of the car so that should still be in rude health given the low mileage it has done. The first sign of them failing is when it requires lots and lots (like 30 seconds+) of cranking to start from cold so if it's firing up relatively on the button it is unlikely to be that.

VVT solenoid is a really good shout as they have a habit of not working on a lot of things when left to their own devices for a while, it would also explain why it isn't pulling all the revs! I'd definitely put that on the replace list to be sure.

It's made my day to see the pictures of it back out on circuit, I absolutely love that car and the reaction it gets from others biggrin
