Cracking little cars, could have always done with more than 125 brake though, didnt feel much faster than my polo sport at the time (1.4 100hp)... If it'd had 160 ish vw would have been onto a winner.
This one looks absolutely cracking, hats off to OP !
Yeah the plan is to try make around 160ish, i’d like to know what powet it is now as it sits side by side with a Clio 182!

Thanks for the comments smile

Just got back from can only been described as an incredible trip to Wales. I drove the Evo Triangle and the Black Mountain pass along with many other amazing roads! I done a total of 1131 miles, the Lupo never fails to amaze me just how capable it is! i'll leave a few picture below.

Finally got the tyre writing back on, this should be a more permanent solution. I’m currently testing them out smile

Great attention to detail so far!

Any thoughts with engine spec/transplant once 160bhp becomes too tame?

I’m sure I’ve seen 1.8T conversions into these (or an Arosa perhaps)- but a snorty 2L 20v on ITBs would be my choice...

We live in a world where everything has gone forced-induction, so it’s nice to stay loyal to a decent N/A offering. Revs & induction noise ftw
I did originally plan on going down the 1.8t route but decided to keep the N/A characteristics. Plus the 1.8t is a heavy ole lump to have in the front of the Lupo. I think i’ll keep the 160ish bhp for now. Sometime next year i’ll be in the market for an S2000 so this will take a back stel.

Thanks for all the nice comments, makes it all the more worth it smile

Cracking looking Lupo. Don't think I've ever seen one of these to fully go down the performance route. Used to see a lot of them stanced at shows but you're turning it into a proper GTI!
Do you still plan on getting this mapped? Send me a PM if so, I know a place that wouldn't disappoint.
Cheers! It drives so much better than when it was ‘stanced’!

I tried to PM you but it wouldn’t let me, i’m interested to know the details if you could try PM me smile

So I finally got my rear beam back from the powder coaters, looks much better! I refreshed everything whilst i was doing it, made sense to buy new everything!

Also the old rear beam was out of alignment, always has been since i've owned the car. I got the car aligned yesterday at Tyre-Smart in Witham. I highly recommend these guys, the car drives fantastic. I'll leave a few photo's below smile

Love the pics.
How much more can you get from that engine, n/a? Is there a s/c kit for it or maybe get the 1.4 sc/turbo lump (ensuring its healthy before hand)
With the right mods you can see around 160-170bhp if it’s a healthy engine.

Several people have tried charging these engines but no one has been sucessful yet!

So I took the car to a Local place called Hybrid Tune today to have it Dyno'd. Purely to see where i'm at before I fit all the parts.

It made a healthy 140bhp and 121lb/ft. Really pleased with these numbers considering it is still on the standard map!

Yesterday, me and a good friend of mine spent the day fitting the new parts to the Lupo. Port match and gas flowed head, polished inlet manifold and a set of Piper cams. Also had the cam cover and inlet powder coated black, looks much better IMO. I didn’t get as much pictures as i’d of liked but we just wanted to crack on.

Took it for a run to London last night to give the cams some time to bed in. Car drives perfectly! Mapping is on the 21st November with Wayne at ChipWizards.

Update time: 21st November, mapping day. We made the 4 and a half hour journey to Manchester the night before ready for the morning. Drove over there for 9.00am, chatted to Wayne for an hour before putting the car on the dyno. Wayne done some pre-checks and his diagnostic tool flagged up a fault code i hadn’t seen before, “Camshaft position actuator malfunction” - great! Wayne pulled the VVT solenoid out and put some power through, turns out it was working so the problem is else where. Without this working its pointless to attempt mapping, so i made my way home and said i’ll figure it out and come back. So I get home, I had a spare VVT solenoid I thought i’d try, plugged it and took for a drive, an instant different in mid range power! I took it back out to compare them, turns out the holes for the oil were different so they wasn’t matching up to the holes on the head. Who ever sold me the head over a year ago now, we can only assume it was off a different 16v engine that uses a different solenoid, luckily the spare one I had was the one I got sent with the head. So after all that it was a simple fix that cost me nothing, other than a load of fuel wasted.

I got back in contact with Wayne straight away to let him know the good news, he said he was free Friday. Confirmed it with him and made the early journey back up early Friday.

We got it back on the Dyno, checked everything over and all was good! Wayne set to work, it’s a difficult ECU to map so it took all day, but the results are good! It made 159bhp, around 34bhp over a standard car! The biggest gains were through the midrange, around 3-4k before the map it was making about 80bhp, after the map it now makes 110 at 3-4. The rev limiter has also been raised from 6700 to 7300, thats where all the power is!

Safe to say I am over the moon, I highly recommend anyone to visit Wayne if you are looking to get a map done, the blokes been mapping cars longer than i’ve been alive! He goes above and beyond!

Just been out for a spirited drive, the car is an absolute weapon now. The extra revs allows me to to save upshifting on certain straight i previously had to! Overall, extremely happy!

After driving it some more, it’s safe to say its a little rocket now. Had a side by side rolling race through Mexico with a mate in his Clio 182 which has a full exhaust and a map. 50mph 3rd gear pull, i’m ahead up until about 100 then his 2.0 gradually pulls back. Pleased with that though!

Also tried on my mates Enkei RPF1’s, what do you think? I really like them!

Well today was the last trackday of the year for me and the Lupo, at Snetterton again.
I cannot describe how good the car feels compared to the last time on track. The new rear beam and geometry really has transformed the way the car behaves, so much more balance and composure through the high speed corners! The extra power is massively noticeable also, much more low down torque out the tighter corners. But, the best part is the brakes. They really are incredible compared tonthe standard calipers.
Overall it was a good day, other than one little moment I ended uo facing the wrong way. I was chasing an MR2 for 3-4 laps, we was both pushing hard then suddenly he has a lot of smoke coming out. Can only assume the engine blew up and dumped all his oil on the track, causing me to do a 360 almost instantly lol!

Hope everyones had a good xmas!

Boxing day yesterday meant only one thing, get up at 6am ready to go for the annual hoon to Aldeburgh.

7 cars turned up with plenty of variety, my Lupo GTI, a B5 S4, another B5 S4 with 470bhp! A S2000, E92 M3, Cooper S and a Leon Cupra 20v.

What an awesome drive it was, roads were lovely clear, bit greasy but it made it interesting. Overall a good morning!

Plenty of miles being put on the Lupo lately, all fun miles too! As it’s not my daily driver, every time it gets taken out it gets ‘driven’!

Winter plans are to remove front subframe and everything else on the front end and powder coat the lot, the underneath will then be finished. The dash and doorcards will be getting flocked as the standard dash has a funny texture on it and the doorcards are a horrible grey material.

Gave it a thorough clean today, wheels off and arches all cleaned up, something i find really satisyfying to do.

Well today has been a fantastic day, I’m sure most of you know or have heard of Sideways Sid. I took the car to him today for him to make a video on and to get someone else’s opinion on the car! It seems like he absolutely loved the car and he was really surprised by it. He is a super nice guy, we wasted a good 2 hours just talking car stuff lol. Not too sure when the video will be out but i’ll be sure to post it in here when it goes live!
