I guess those were YouTube tests of second hand cars?

When the mags tested the cars new a Focus ST170 was in between the times of a 306 GTi and 106 Gti to 100mph ( about 21 seconds - 306 around 20 and 106 around 22 ) - either you’ve seen an extremely fast 106 or it wasn’t a healthy ST170. They should definitely be quicker than 26 seconds to the ton if they’re running right. Up to 60 they were a bit slower than the similar weight 306 GTi-6 as the gearing was long in 1st/2nd.

Where did you see the road test? I guess it wasn’t a U.S. mag as their times were often quicker than Uk ones!

I do think the Focus can be prone to something going awry in the intake after a while and knocking the edge off the performance though after a few miles.
MAF I think was the issue. Plagued mine when it was new. For a year it wouldn't rev over about 4k, had next to no power. That's why it got chipped in for the Leon in 2005. Ford couldn't find the issue.

I figure it's been nearly a year, might aswell update. The car has since had the arches and sills done, 4 new Goodyear Eagle F1's, a 9000VNR fitted, wheels refurbished in sparkle silver, interior steam clean and deep shampoo, some minor paintwork around the car, and a full service at Pumaspeed. I'm currently working on getting it ready to take to H20i next year and a 3 month drive around in the US. It's getting a ceramic coating done next week which should be good for winter. I'm very happy I resisted the urge to flip it 2 years ago, I would've regretted it big time.

Do you have a photo of how it looks today? Well done for bringing it back to life!

Yey, glad to hear you still have it.

I always regretted selling one of my first cars, Great to have one with real personal history like yours.

This is how it's stood for about a year, also as a non runner with the dead battery. It's done maybe 50 miles from being put away last September to being taken out this September. The interior was absolutely filthy, when it's usually spotless. I bought a VNR that was broken, so I sold it for spares for a bit more and found mine 3 streets away. At this point the tyres weren't holding air, it barely ran and the brakes were pretty much ruined. I'd pretty much given it up and put it away so it wouldn't rot anymore whilst I enjoyed the Subaru and S320. Then when I sold my Range Rover I decided it was now or never.

It's had 4 new Goodyear Eagle F1's, new battery, wheels refurbished, the vNR, a factory spoiler, heater motor, the welding, most of the paintwork finished, and a service at Pumaspeed booked. I've still got a few areas of paint left, but I'm waiting to do the spoiler with them. I've got a headlight washer kit to fit next year with a new Scorpion exhaust and sports cat, I also plan on doing the discs and pads next year. I didn't have time to get better pics, but this is how it stands right now. It's not been detailed yet, only washed. I had some Polar Ford plates recreated and the dealer sticker recreated from Pukar Designs, not fitted the plates yet though. I was gonna get a new set of Ford mats, but figured it to be pointless in winter.

And just as quick as it got back on the road, it may be back off again for a long while. Had a clutch and fly kit fitted last year, done less than 1k with it and it looks like it's starting to slip. If I dip the clutch and build the revs the engage the clutch, the revs continue to hold until I let off.

If it’s slipping already, take it back. If they argue, threaten them with Trading Standards.

Pretty sure the LUK clutches have quite a long warranty on them.

Good choice on the Scorpion exhaust, its the perfect mix between a bit of noise & not being noticed when you want a bit of peace, plus it goes together so well, I had mine fitted in less than 10mins, it pretty much fell together.

It was some rent a mechanic that did it last year, don't have any receipts of the parts of work
